Upgraded a previously upgraded 2010 iMac from 3T to 6T - using the TOSMD04ACA600P. This time using High Sierra 10.13.6. It has been a few years since the first upgrade and things have changed for the better since then. Long story short it was pretty much the same as before only easier. Plugged in the drive externally while still operating using the old drive and formatted the new one quickly; then installed it in the machine - swapping old for new; then had Time Machine restore" everything to the new disc. Copying over 3T using USB 2.0 took 24 hours but it seems to have run perfectly - in the end it was just restart and go... But maybe Support had it right and I had to do it that way... At least it all worked out. The drive does make some noise when seeking/writing but not more than the original 1T drive and I quickly forgot all about it. Boots up faster operates faster and tons of new room. What s not to like?"

The on-line chat experience when I was shopping/selecting the hard drives was good. I was uncertain if the new drives I had selected would fit in the enclosures I had (mini-stack) and I was uncertain how to do the install. The sales rep provided good guidance and linked me to a short little video that showed how these drives can be installed in the enclosures I had purchased from OWC 5 years ago.Install was easy and I had the new 3.5" 6 TB drives up and running in no time at all!

I was being inundated with external drive enclosures so I completely changed my backup/storage strategy. I now use OWC Mercury Elite Pro Dual enclosures which let me remove drives when they are full store them in naked" form and replace them with new drives. I ve purchased eight of these Toshiba drives recommended by OWC as among the most reliable and very fast. My experience to date has been exactly that. There are cheaper drives but the cost of a failed drive is infinitely greater than the few extra bucks these require."

The 128mb chunk size makes this drive provide data so that there isn't any lag time between your game or other work. That is the claim from the mfr, and seems to be true. I've had MUCH noisier drives than this in the past. Not bad at all. Seems to get the job done at a price point that makes it practical - IMO. Its not loud, just a gentle, quiet chatter. If you use vibration isolation; then you won't even notice it unless you get your ear close enough to notice. I don't use it for the boot drive, just for game and file storage. No burps or hiccups delivering data
This drive seems to function perfectly in my NAS. How reliable it is we will see in the future, hopefully the distant future. It is quiet. It is a 7200 RPM drive and runs about 5 C hotter than the previous drive did, from 31 up to 36, so not bad during idle.
I needed 4 drives to build a raid drive. These work great and are relatively quiet. I used Soft Raid 6 that OWC supplied with my Thunder Bay enclosure. Delivery was fast and well packed. My only issue was the SoftRaid software indicated total run time on the drives. While they all had similar manufacturing dates, 2 drives had only 22 hours but 2 had 1,200 hours. This seems like they have been used before. I have always found OWC a great company to deal with regarding these issues. Since everything is running fine, I didnt call them on this issue.
I recently bought replacement WD bare drives for my new Mac. Have used WD for years. Drive would not format, was sent a replacement, no joy. Ended up sending both drives back (Amazon) as they would not format. Was given advice to buy drives from OWC, and was very pleased. New bare hard drive arrived packaged well, unlike the WD drives from Amazon. Lesson learned.
I actually just took this drive out of my iMac and went back to the original 1tb drive. It made a constant noise that I thought was the fan over-spinning because of the OWC sensor kit cable not working. But the sensor was probably fine the fans were spinning at the right speed and when I took the drive out and put it into an external case (where it now will live forever....) I distinctly heard its whisping sounds of the drive spinning. So if you want a good drive for performance for a tower under your desk this is the a good choice. But not for an iMac right next to your ears.
I bought two of these for my 2008 MP 3,1. Although shipping only took one week to Canada (which was super!), by the time the drives arrived, I had already upgraded to a 2012 5,1. No compatibility issues. Just plugged the drives in, initialized, and started backing up all my media. I don't have any tests or data to share, just my anecdotal experience, which so far has been fantastic. Very happy with these drives and OWC! Thanks!
I used to use a WD black 4TB. I have an old Mac 2012 with Mojave 10.14.6 and can't upgrade. This HD wants to load my desktop and I can't stop it. Your 4.0TB Toshiba worked great! I will buy more. I am a professional master photographer and I use these HDs for back ups.
