When I spend this amount of money on an enterprise drive, I expect it to actually work. I tested it with every SATA port on my motherboard, and every power connector from my PSU. It's my first time using a Toshiba hard drive and I'm not impressed. I'll update this review after the RMA is complete and I test the replacement. Update: Had to wait 2 and a half weeks for the replacement. The replacement worked for one day. Tested it in a second computer and same thing. An expensive enterprise drive that can't even last a full 24 hours. This is the first and last time I'll bother with Toshiba hard drives. They don't respond to emails sent to their support department and their website doesn't have anything indicating that there's a 5 year warranty as stated on the Newegg page.

It works wonderfully in my sata 3 external drive. I down loaded thousands of my songs and software on the drive with plenty of room to spare...It was 'brand new' with with 30 minutes run time on it from the factory testing only. It is quiet and super fast for a sata drive. Without any doubts I would buy another one in a minute... You can't go wrong I have worked with and on computers for 20+ years. . The hard -disk is built like a tank. This Hoss is way heavier duty the the whimpey oem sata(s) found in junkie cookie cutter computers. This one is a keeper, and you can take that to the bank

I'm using this 16TB drive in a Vantec USB3 enclosure to act as an off-site backup drive for my home computer (I take LOTS of photos). It's no louder than any other drive I've used. It's fast enough that it's not the limiting factor in my backup process. Being able to finally run my backups to a single disk instead of a 2-disk pair makes my USB enclosure quite a bit lighter, which is nice. I have 11 hard drives in active use at my house, so I end up replacing at least one every year. Most of them are Western Digital. One HGST has lasted a while, but is noisy. Seagate drives always fail early in my setup. This is the second Toshiba drive I've purchased (also an 8TB N300), and both are working well so far. I'll stick with WD and Toshiba for the near future.

Maybe I am not being fair marking 3 eggs since the review should be about the product, not how they ship? These were bought/shipped from Newegg, not a third party seller at Newegg. I have requested Newegg send replacements, but they can't guarantee that the replacements will ship any differently. So I have to decide to either keep drives that could have been damaged in shipping (first batch or second batch) or just return them. I know, if you buy them from a brick and mortar store, who's to say that store didn't drop the drives/shipping box on the ground before stocking them, I know, but perhaps unfairly, I expected better from Newegg as I considered them a trusted place to buy. I am hoping this is a one off and I will continue to buy from Newegg, but if this persists, I may have to look elsewhere to purchase sensitive hardware like hard drives. For the Toshiba drive itself, I like the price, I like that these are enterprise drives, like third party website ratings of the Toshiba drives as it pertains to fail rate and quality when compared to big name competition (new drives, some older models didn't fair so well), and I bought these to mirror (software RAID, Linux MDADM) for redundancy purposes for the data I will store on them. I like that their operating dB levels appear to be on par with other drives, but quieter than some others.

I'm going to start by saying that my sole reason for purchasing this hard drive is to upgrade the hard drive in my PS4. There are two ways to upgrade a PS4 hard drive using a 3.5"""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""" desktop hard drive. 1) Using the Nyko Data Bank 2) Using an external enclosure to power the hard drive, and running a SATA extension cable from the extension or hard drive to the PS4. I chose to use an external enclosure to house and power this Toshiba hard drive and run a SATA extension cable from the hard drive to the PS4. I'm not going to go into great detail about the process or set-up, but I will be happy to answer any questions and provide help for anyone that may have questions on how I ran my set-up. I'm not going to go into great detail about the process or set-up, but I will be happy to answer any questions and provide help for anyone that may have questions on how I ran my set-up. I spent approximately 2 months doing research and reading every single review for over 10 different hard drives I was considering putting into my PS4. I had narrowed it down to 3 hard drives, but still spent weeks contemplating which would be the best option. In the end, I chose none of those options. One day while doing research, I stumbled upon hdd.userbenchmark.com. This is a fantastic website that shows real-world statistics for a wealth of different hard drives. I was able to compare side-by-side each one of the hard drives that I was considering for my upgrade. Upon chance, I found this Toshiba hard drive on the list. This hard drive currently ranks at #10 on the speed/performance list, and easily out-performs all of the other hard drives I was considering. And the best part? It's at least $20 cheaper than all the other drives I was considering! Now on to the hard drive itself. I'm just your average every day consumer, and I don't have much experience in internal hard drives. I learned a great deal about them through all the research I performed before making my purchase. I could not possibly be more satisfied with my purchase. This hard drive has exceeded all of my expectations. After installing the drive (the PS4 software installed much quicker with this hard drive than my previous upgrade drive) I proceeded to install all of my PS4 games from discs. This took not quite half as long as it did than with the other hard drive I originally used to upgrade the PS4. Loading games and game saves is much quicker with this drive, and the actual processing and performance of the drive is a huge improvement as well. With the other drive, there would be stuttering and delays in graphics rendering while playing large open world games such as GTA 5 and Shadow of Mordor. There are no issues like that whatsoever with this drive. This also wasn't as much of a concern to me, but this drive is whisper quiet. It also doesn't produce as much heat as other 3.5"""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""" 7200 RPM drives do. So that being said, I think placing this drive in the Nyko Data Bank to upgrade the PS4 would be absolutely fine. I will be happy to try and answer any questions regarding the hard drive or my set-up. I absolutely without any reservations recommend this hard drive for an upgrade to the PS4!

Ideal for my purpose, but reliability an unknown.

This is my first "MG08" hard drive, and so far, so good. It's early days though, and a lot of things can go wrong. If this is as reliable as the "MG07" 14TB drives that I usually buy, that would be useful. 16Tb is a lot to lose if things do go wrong, but most of the data is scratch stuff, audio/video that I can afford to lose, and the data on there that I can't afford to lose is one of the backups for the original.Speed is impressive, getting consistent 220 MB/s and above for test writes, which is about as much as I'd expect from a "spinning-rust" hard drive with a single actuator. I could only get this figure when copying from SSD though, so it's probably the fastest conventional hard drive I've got so far.It runs pretty cool, fairly quiet too and importantly ... MoreThis is my first "MG08" hard drive, and so far, so good. This is an occasional-use drive so doesn't need to be always-on, and every little helps in terms of power usage right now.In short, it ticks all the boxes for me, though I can't yet talk about the longevity/reliability. YMMV.

I have several of these already and they work well. I grabbed some under Scan's current Black Friday deal. They are OEM rather than the depicted retail versions and were suppplied in plastic clamshells (well-protected within a larger package) rather than being sealed. Surprisingly, they were already a year old according to the manufacturing date whereas others bought previously (from a different supplier) were from July of this year. This posted just so you're aware.

The Right Parts & Great Service

I had attempted to but a hard drive for my 2009 Mac Pro three different times from Amazon, and Ended up with something I couldnt use. I went to OWC and spoke with their customer service once and received exactly what I need the first time.I had bought everything I need for my computers from OWC when my computers were new, and never had a problem, I should have started with them this time,Ill never buy parts for my machine anywhere else than OWC, I highly recommend them for anyone with Apple products. Well packed
12 April 2022

I ordered the same product from another vendor because they were a few $ less. Big mistake, they arrived with almost no packing, with the cases all dinged up. Returned them and ordered from Newegg. Kudo's for well packed drives. Installed easily into a Synology NAS, and at least the first 2 weeks have been flawless. Toshiba's web site confirms that they have a 5 year warranty.

Works great in a silver tower Mac Pro. 60 second installation time!

Flawless and quiet performance. It does come formatted for windows, however when I powered up my Mac Pro this was instantly recognized and in about 30 seconds the Mac reformatted the drive for the more efficient HFS+ (macOS). The performance is outstanding. As for performance, their great! They are similar to WD Black for speed and performance. Actually like these over the black series. Just as fast but much more quiet and built sturdier. Something to consider regarding warranties from ANY hard drive manufacturer. Do you really want to use the warranty? Let's say the drive fails, do you really want to send all of your data off to someone else? In my many years with WD I've never had one fail so this issue is one I've never had to confront.
