I'll be sending it in for warranty, but from what I have read, Toshiba's warranty department is flat out garbage and they don't actually send you a new drive, just a check for your purchase price. So if you get this drive on sale, you are doomed. Stay away.

I foresee that I will replace the other 2x 4 TB at some point in the future as my storage requirements increase and then another two to fill the empty slots, so another 3 x 8TB giving 32TB in total. This array is mirrored so at some point in my future I hope to be financially secure enough to buy 7 of these in total. I suspect I will be buying them in singly. I lost a 500GB drive a number of years ago and I swore I would never not have a mirrored backup again. Based on performance, running temperatures, warranty and Toshiba's proven track record in HDD/SSD this drive deserves 5 eggs.

I bought this HDD for my NAS server. Typically I have always used enterprise level drives such as Ultrastar 7k4000 but I saw this Toshiba N300 on sale and well, you get what you pay for. I installed this drive in my server, booted it up, and after resilvering the RAID setup it worked great for about an hour. While these things are minor and relatively insignificant on a single drive, many drives together in an array could stack the effects and have a significant impact. Overall, this is a good drive for mass storage in any device at a good price. While it is targeted towards NAS with a continuous use rating, it would work just fine as a standard HDD in just about anything. And in regards to the "RAID support" marketing, I have yet to find a HDD that did not work with RAID.

Toshiba packages the hard drive in a plastic bag (which did not appear to be an anti-static one) and fits it snugly into a 2-piece "sleeve" that has multiple plastic air cushions, so it does seem as if there is no way for it to move around inside the box. There are no SATA cables or screws, so make sure you pick some up elsewhere.
I purchased this drive in January as my DAZ 3D Product library outstripped my previous 3TB drive and I decided to use my 8TB Xbox/PC drive as a backup. I currently have about 4TB full for my DAZ Library and my rendering folder. So far I have no complaints. Loads items from the library quickly, and has more than enough room to expand. My main hobby is 3D Rendering in DAZ Studio and using blender, Zbrush, Marvelous Designer and other products. 8 months in ownership I see no issues with this drive even as I have moved product around a lot to organize my massive runtime library. If I ever hit 7TB I plan to buy another to extend my library, What can I say? It works.

The cables fit tightly and the drive is simple and elegant in the way it looks. I would recommend this drive for any common application and I think it would be a really good drive for using in your Network Attached Storage system, eight of them in fact.
I installed this into my server and first thing I noticed is that it was almost so silent you couldn't tell it was running. My server consist of 4 x 8TB drives so I removed one and installed this then configured it to be part of the server. I noticed as data was reloading it started out at what the specs said it would do about 240MBps. After a minute into it the spend started to drop and within 5 minutes it had dropped to 42MBps. I had over 180 gigs to transfer to it and I really wanted it to go faster but as it was I left the room and came back every 15 minutes to check on it. A couple of hours later the data was finished and it was now a part of my server. I noticed as data was reloading it started out at what the specs said it would do about 240MBps. After a minute into it the spend started to drop and within 5 minutes it had dropped to 42MBps. I had over 180 gigs to transfer to it and I really wanted it to go faster but as it was I left the room and came back every 15 minutes to check on it. A couple of hours later the data was finished and it was now a part of my server. How long it is going to last I don't know at this time but will update the review if at anytime during the next year or two it goes out. So far I have been lucky in the 3 servers that I run I have only had one hard drive ever drop out and this is in the last 5 years that I have been running them. I have a game server but did not make this NAS hard drive a part of it but instead made it a part of my work server so other employees could have the benefit of it also. On a side note I have hardly any heat coming off this drive compared to my other drives. What surprised me is I use 2 different benchmark programs and they both after testing said this drive is doing 250MBps read and write but during an actual data transfer it was only writing 42MBps after a short time. Benchmarks are great but if in real world data transfers the speed is only a fraction of what is rated then I have to go off the real world data transfers. So for the money you are getting a 8TB drive that runs cool and if you are using in a server after the initial building there isn't a lot of writing to do to the drive just reading it is a decent deal. Matter of fact am probably going to get 3 more of these because of the coolness of the drive alone makes it worth it in my server and also because of the noise factor. I will at lease one server that runs quiet and cool compared to what I am used to.
