I like the fact that you can add workspace to the area that you are working. This goes well to hold in the tools that are thrown into the crate until you are able to organize them later. If the crate where to get knocked over this would become a time saver, holding them within the crate. The locking mechanism is a game changer.

The item is nice and provides a nice work surface. My only complain is I have to remove it to get to anything directly beneath it. Would be nice if it had a hinge system that would allow me to raise it for access to the box below it.

I have the trolley, the large tool box, the low profile organiser, also two of the compact low profile organisers (not purchased simultaneously) and the work surface.Am I doing something wrong, I want to place the two compact low profiles to the low profile organiser (no problem), but the work surface does not mount then?Is that right, even I reverse the low profile with the two compacts, I can’t get them to engage? Is this intentional, or simply a by-product of buying pieces individually?

I considered this to be a bit of a luxury item as the Stacktech boxes are relatively flat to begin with. But it really finishes off the top of the boxes. I tend to use the crates a lot in the car. This top will allow me to stack other items on top of the crate without damaging the contents in the crate. I also like how it has a removable wood (bamboo… close enough) top. It can be removed with one screw. Best of all… you can pop this on the top of a box and it doesn’t interfere with center latch of the box below!
This work surface is perfect to use as a lid for the crate. It locks on securely, it looks great. The push tabs snap firmly into place with no worries of having an accident spill.
Like the title says, this work surface is perfect to use as a lid for the crate. Not only does it lock on securely, it looks great. The push tabs snap firmly into place with no worries of having an accident spill. The bamboo is beautiful and the laser etched numbers with center logo are done perfectly. It has an excellent finish that resists scratches and provides a surface that is not too slippery. The weight is somewhat hefty but adds to the robustness that is toughbuilt.
A nice hardwood bamboo surface to top off StackTech components. The wood is smooth and sealed with something like polyurethane, and feels like it will hold up to moderate but not heavy duty use (its very solid for its size but isn't a butcher block slab able to withstand heavy hammering). The wood sits a few millimeters above the plastic frame, keeping the surface unobstructed. Though the center screw's powder coated paint seems to cause it to rise up just a little higher than intended - it juts up above the wood about a half a millimeter (but can be sanded down). I've bought two and noticed that the manufacturing varies, with the wood of each being slightly wider or off-center. One has some play (wiggling slightly) and the other has the central hole slightly ... MoreA nice hardwood bamboo surface to top off StackTech components. I've bought two and noticed that the manufacturing varies, with the wood of each being slightly wider or off-center. One has some play (wiggling slightly) and the other has the central hole slightly off-center (causing the wood to over hang slightly on one-side and under-hang on the other (by 1-2 millimeters). Overall I like it, but do hope they get the manufacturing more consistent.
if you take the big screw out, the worktop can slide left & right to reveal small storage compartments; ideal for small keys, AA/AAA batts, screws, wago's/nuts, ...
the bamboo split and warped extremely bad from the humidity in one day. if you plan to buy it get ready to replace the top.
