Tovolo - Microwave Collapsible Food Cover Charcoal

I would give this a five-star rating, but I just purchased it. So far, I like everything about it: Easy clean up, covers the food well, I did not have any problem extending it. Mine is used multiple times a day, and after each use, I rinse it, wipe it, or wash it off with soap and water-- depending on what type of food was heated. I prefer to leave mine fully extended and kept in the Microwave for quick reach. I purchased mine in red-- looks pretty too. Another thing that I like about this Microwave food cover is that so far, there has not been any food spatter on the interior of the cover, and no bad order.(Our Microwave is used for heating food-- no cooking) We are very pleased with this purchase.

Great Microwave Companion

We try to reuse, recycle at our house as much as possible, but one thing we couldn't seem to get away from was using a paper towel to cover our food in the microwave. I hate the splatters and have to cook things covered, but we hated wasting a paper towel every time. I saw these and thought they were worth a try, and they have been great! They store flat, so I just keep it tucked next to the side of the microwave, pop it out and put it over the food. If the bowl is too tall, we still use this cover and just rest it on the bowl. They can be a little tough to pop open and close at first, but they loosen up as they are used. They clean up super easily. I haven't even had to run it through the dishwasher yet. Great buy!

The newer food cover has a small handle on the top. Although a lot of reviews seem to complain about that handle, I find it pretty convenient, especially in comparison to the one that doesn't have it at all. I haven't noticed any issues with persistent odors. If at some point we decide it needs to be replaced, these are not expensive and I would definitely purchase another. Totally worth it to keep my microwave interior clean!

Reduce your microwave mess

I would highly recommend this microwave cover to put over plates and bowls of food when reheating. Its excellent at reducing/eliminating food splatter, is easy to hand wash and quick to air dry. Added bonus that it is collapsible for sleek storage. I would add that it is not advisable to leave inside the microwave, if you have a convection microwave like me. They are not oven proof, only microwave proof. Not an issue if you have a standard microwave. Husband approved and kid approved, Ive purchased one for my parents and in-laws and they love it!

Size Matters

We have acquired and used several Nordic Ware food covers over the years. I have also purchased plain white plates from Crate and Barrel with a disappointment over minor geometrical differences (like diameter) based upon the country of origin. In some cases, the Nordic Ware food covers rest on the plate itself while in other cases the food covers fit perfectly with a small lip embracing the outer rim so that the cover is secure and unlikely to move around. I bought these new food covers with the hope that they would consistently encapsulate the food and plate. Unfortunately, they are consistently resting on the lip of my Crate and Barrel dinner plates regardless of the size. So handy

A gadget even my husband loves, which is good since he's usually the one messing up the microwave. The collapsible aspect is great for fitting it in a smaller drawer near the microwave. It was a little stiff to expand it, but will likely get easier through use. I like that it's deep enough to cover a larger bowl, as in the photo.

Stop that microwave mess

Buy this and leave it in your microwave because that’s where you need it and you gonna be too lazy to go get something to cover that food before you hit the start button. I will watch it🙄. No you won’t. Before you know it, there’s gonna be a pop and the top of the microwave is going to have those messy food/ liquid bits all on it. You are in a hurry and don’t wipe it up immediately. Yep then you have nasty, dried food bits🤢. Yep that’s gonna be hard to clean. Just use this convenient and easy to clean cover!!

Tried many, no need to buy any other cover

Can't say enough about this cover. We've tried 3 others including Nordic which is WAY over-priced and not worth it. We didn't have any luck and about a year ago we bought this Tovolo and asked ourselves why we didn't buy it earlier. We just bought a second one to give to a relative. All the other brands either break and crack after a few months or they don't have a way of lifting them out of the microwave easily or without burning your hands.We just leave this cover in the microwave. That way you won't forget to use it each time you heat something up. I've only had to wipe down the inside of our microwave three times in the past year. If you're not a neat-nick you could go 8 or 10 months without cleaning your microwave.Here's why you don't want to buy the Nordic Ware brand or others like it:--The plastic is brittle and easily cracks.-- They heat up A LOT and there is no way to remove it from the microwave without using oven mits. This Tovolo doesn't heat up at all.--Look at the top of the Nordic. Notice there is no way to grab it from the center. Now look at the top of the Tovolo - you can easily grab the center and then put your thumb on the side and pick it up. Even for the ones that do have a couple of indentations on the top for fingers, the indentations aren't deep enough to grab and as I mentioned earlier, you can't use your bare hands to grab the cover anyway since they heat up too much.--When I've gone to the local Bed, Bath, and Beyond store, they have about 5 hooks dedicated to the Tovolo covers but they're typically out of stock or there is only one or two left. But they have dozens of other covers in stock because people don't buy them and instead wait for the Tovolos to come back in stock.If you buy the Nordic brand you'll pay almost double the price of the Tovolo and you'll be 10 times less satisfied.I wouldn't recommend collapsing this cover and then popping a bag of popcorn on top of top of it. Due to the oil heating up the top will melt just a tiny bit. You won't wreck it but it will get disfigured over time.We don't collapse this lid a lot but it's nice to have the option, especially if you're going to be cooking something in the microwave for a long while that already has a cover and you want to get this thing out of the way, just collapse it and throw it in a cabinet.

Very happy with the construction on this cover. It's built well to last a long time. It will not collapse by itself when in use which is a very good thing. It's high enough to cover the food on our plates and allow us to heat foods without worrying about the roof or inside walls of our microwave oven getting messed up. There is a very slight flaw in the design which should not be a deal breaker for you. The handle on the top does not allow an easy grip for lifting the cover up but you will not get burned if you grab it from the red part of the lid with both hands. Despite that, we are very happy with this cover and do recommend it to everyone.

I bought this to replace a hard plastic cover that had cracked. My old one was not quite tall enough and I had to be careful that the food on the plate didn't touch the inside of the cover. The image on this one looked taller, but the packaging didn't give specific dimensions. When I got it home and opened it up, I was tempted to return it because it didn't seem to expand even as high as my old one.Fortunately, I noticed that there was a "ripple" near the top and maybe it was not fully expanded yet. I held onto the bottom edge and pushed my fist into the underside of the cover and it started to pop open more. Because this was the first time it was expanded fully after being packaged, that last section kept collapsing back down as I was trying to expand it. But it quickly opened up and stayed that way at a full 3 inches in height.My only complaint is that the small top handle is inset, so you lose a little bit of that clearance height. And it is not much of a handle anyway. Bigger fingers will have trouble getting a grip on it. But I'm sure it was designed that way to allow the cover to collapse relatively flat.Also on the plus side, it has vent holes all around the top instead of one hole in the center, so moisture is well vented and doesn't collect and drip back down onto the food. And it stays expanded until you collapse it back down for storage. It also stays cool and rinses clean easily.
