Easy Fix for Weak Wi-Fi Spots in Home

I move around a lot which is relevant to this review because most homes I have lived in, (~ 15 homes), had a few areas where the 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi bandwidth had difficulty reaching. I wanted to see if TP-Link’s AX1800 mesh network would help with this challenge and if I am super lucky, completely resolve it. The setup I choose was a dual-station package with one station connected with an included data cable to the router and the other station placed in an area with weak signal. It is worth noting that my internet is fiber optic with up to 1 Gbps up and 1 Gbps down. Due to the speed, I do not have a modem and my router is one I purchased and not the one that the ISP typically leases to you. Setup for the Deco mesh network system very simple. There is an app you download that goes through every step. I tend to be on the slow side when it comes to installing new equipment, but the total time for install was around 15 - 20 minutes. My speed test prior to setup of the mesh network in the weak signal area was around 24 Mbps down which is very frustrating when you are paying for up to 1 Gbps. You’ll see in one photo after the installation of the mesh network, the speed is now mind blowing. It is also worth noting that my home has a smart panel with all the internet equipment. This smart panel is made of metal and really impacts the internet speed. However, after the mesh network was setup and running, I didn’t notice any drop in speed due to the metal smart panel box. If you have areas in your home that have weak Wi-Fi signal, especially on 2.4 GHz bandwidth, you will be very happy once you have the TP-Link AX1800 mesh network system up and running.

The TP Link mesh router system is something that I was look for to improve the WiFi throughout my home. I live in a two story 3000 square for hoot and my wifi signal was having issues reaching the further parts of the home. I ran a few speed tests and I noticed that the wifi signal was weaker and was about half of the speed when I was in the room with our wifi router. When looking for ways to improve it I found that setting up a mesh system would be the best option. This TP Link mesh system comes with 3 AX1800 routers that all link together to strengthen your wifi system throughout the home. It has an option of 2.4 or 5.0 gigahertz. Overall this is a great system that will improve your overall wifi strength and give you seamless connectivity if you have a larger home.

More effective than I would have ever expected

I am pleasantly surprised with these! I kept thinking that I wouldn’t actually need them, but I am amazed about how much of a difference they made to my already fast network. These are the best network extenders I have ever used, by a long shot. Their incredible design fits into my style well, and I appreciate how only one of them needs to be connected to ethernet, as I don’t have ethernet throughout my home. The Decos are the easiest networking device I have ever setup. All I did was download the app, and it walks you through every step. Any other networking devices I’ve ever had to use has had hours of excruciating setup, across my many devices. The Decos setup all through the app on my iPhone, and they were ready to use within minutes. I can tell that a lot of ... MoreI am pleasantly surprised with these! Any other networking devices I’ve ever had to use has had hours of excruciating setup, across my many devices. The Decos setup all through the app on my iPhone, and they were ready to use within minutes. I can tell that a lot of care went into these, which I really appreciate. The only negative thing I have experienced so far is that the automatic switching feature does NOT work as advertised. When my devices are switching between a Deco to get a signal from, I can notice. The connection completely drops for a second or two, which can be problematic if you’re on a video call, viewing livestreaming content, or streaming other kinds of content. Of course, from day to day use, you won’t notice the temporary disconnection, but it’s something to be aware of. The best way to test any internet equipment is with a speed test. Below using an app called Wi-Fi Sweetspots, on my iPhone 13 Pro (with Wi-Fi 6, taking full advantage of the Deco’s technology). These tests were taken back to back, in the same 8-10 spots. The first test from my router’s direct network was noticeably slower, and disconnected as I stepped outside. The Deco’s network (titled luceros2) was more consistent, and stayed connected as I walked outdoors, on top of similar to better speeds. As you can see the Decos had an incredibly strong effect on my network. If this is the difference it made for me, I can’t imagine how useful it can be for others. I can absolutely recommend this if you’re looking for better network performance, in any shape or form.

No more dropped connections.

I was having a lot of dropped internet signals with my old setup (which was atleast four year old) and this completely fixed it. these work great to help keep wifi signal going strong in the house. Unfortunately I can't make use of the backhaul feature yet with needing some moca adapters to utilize the coax cable in my house but other wise the speed and coverage is great! Though I will say at least for me I notice there's a slight notable switching between the nodes, but it's nothing that would alter regular wifi usage. I only have 2 setup up as opposed to the three so that could play a bit of a role in it as well as me needing a new modem. Otherwise it perfectly suits my needs with area coverage in my two floor town home one upstairs and the other downstairs. Simplicity meets performance

Simplicity meets performance. From the setup to the configuration the prices is simple. Plug in any of the units to your router and it becomes the main unit. Adding the other units is a breeze. Setting up parental control and time limits for your children is easy. The WAN speed is great and the bandwidth on the LAN is super. The one drawback, app only configuration. You can review settings and reboot the unit from the web interface but all the setup has to be done in the app. On the positive side the app is clean and intuitive. I was able to quickly change my internal LAN IP scheme and setup port forwarding rules to allow VPN access while I am away from home. Surprised
17 September 2023

I am honestly surprised by the performance of these. I work for a very large TV company, and when people have trouble connecting to the Internet, we often recommend a signal booster, but I myself have never personally tried one. I work for a very large TV company, and when people have trouble connecting to the Internet, we often recommend a signal booster, but I myself have never personally tried one. Absolutely not, but it truly is night and day to have pages load when you click them instead of it buffering for 1 to 2 minutes every time. I definitely recommend these.

TP-Link Wifi 6 Router Extender - Nice!
21 September 2023

When the box arrived I was very surprised at how small the box was - these extenders are super small! And I love the minimal design. After reading the product overview, I was a bit overwhelmed, but I decided to download the TP-Link Deco app and let it guide me through the installation. It did a pretty good job, but I did run into a few issues... For the mostpart I was very impressed. This system comes equipped to provide dual-band speeds up to 1800 Mbps (but I think your internet provider must support this!) and coverage up to 5,800 sq. ft., which is fantastic for me because I'll get internet in my backyard and on my deck. It also promises less buffering - but I think this also depends on many factors like the provider and/or streaming servers. It has the standard ... MoreWhen the box arrived I was very surprised at how small the box was - these extenders are super small! And I love the minimal design. It also works with Alexa, which I don't have so I wasn't able to try. It offers the option to go wired or wireless with 2 gigabit wan/lan ports (do people still use ethernet?). I am using the wireless option. It includes a 3-year warranty. I did not use any support options so I can't review the competency level of TP-Link's support. Overall, I have to say I am very impressed with the product. It's nice to soup-up and extend the coverage of my existing router. My only question is - does this support Wifi 6E, the newest evolution of WiFi?

Very disappointed

The only pro I can give for this is that it is cheaper than alternatives. But this is definitely a case of "you get what you pay for." because the Cons of this Home Mesh System are numerous. First, control is through App only. That is immediately a red flag and a non-starter from me. There is NO reason for you to invade my privacy with all your requirements of location services. For a QUARTER CENTURY, it was just fine setting up and configuring all your WiFi settings on your browser. Other than wanting to invade customer's privacy now, there is NO reason to require Apps. But it doesn't end there. I decided to install the app on an old phone that will never be turned on for anything else so it can't track me. Just to test it. But it doesn't end there. I decided to install the app on an old phone that will never be turned on for anything else so it can't track me. Just to test it. But this mesh system just isn't good. First off, there are no USB ports on any of the devices. That is fine for a sub-$30 router...but not for one over $100. I used the USB, so therefore this immediately is useless to me. But maybe you are thinking you don't care about your privacy and are OK with using an app, and you don't care about a USB port. You still shouldn't get this. It is sloooooow. My current set up of a router with an extender of a different brand gets me faster speeds everywhere. This mesh system, in a small house, gets me less than 200 MB down in the same room as the satellite. For many people, that is fine. But it sure isn't future proof as internet speeds are constantly rising. And if you have a larger house, you will likely be even more disappointed even at today's lower tier internet speed packages. Especially if you have multiple devices. The only positive I can say is that it looks OK. Nothing great, but OK, and it did cover my whole house. But again, a mis-matched router/extender with just one extender already did that. And cost a lot less overall. TP-Link needs to step up their game with this, and also give us our freedom back with the usual router IP to login on a browser to configure. And let that be a lesson for all companies. Do NOT force us to download your app. I don't know any single person who wants a different app for everything on their phone. People feel they have too any apps already as it is. Allow people who want it to use it, but do not force it on us.

Works great - after firmware update
18 November 2022

Phone app makes for EZ setupI bought this locally (black Friday - Walmart) had stock and slightly better price for BF.First the APP is great (even for an old guy like me)I did have some trouble at first but did get internet working. When I tested using phone w/ookla speed test (BTW I learned this is the cleanest download speed test - computer programs will often detract from a clean test on computer)Once I did my first test the speed was not up to par (I pay for 500 meg down / 20 meg up)I saw that there was a firmware update, so I had this update, which took about 10 minutes, then I had trouble getting back onto the router - power cycle on the router and solved that issue.Once connected and configured my ISP modem it reconnected and BOOM ookla test on phone up ... MorePhone app makes for EZ setupI bought this locally (black Friday - Walmart) had stock and slightly better price for BF.First the APP is great (even for an old guy like me)I did have some trouble at first but did get internet working. Hopefully it stays great.
