I bought this for my proxmox homelab server. I am running pfSense and needed the expansion to have WAN in and LAN out. It was very cheap and that is maybe its downfall. pfSense recongised it and made connections, but it would drop out all the time. Internet would disconnect or fail to find DNS. I swapped the LAN and WAN around so that the WAN in was now the motherboard network socket and the LAN out was this card, the internet worked perfectly but then the LAN started having issues. The wifi would stop working. Stuff on the network coundnt talk to each other, etc. Just lots of little weird issues that would come and go. I purchased this card for my Pfsense firewall/router to replace the super cheap USB Ethernet adapter I was using (although said adapter was doing a surprisingly good job as my WAN interface). This card is based on the RealTek 8168/8111 chipset and uses the "re" FreeBSD driver. The card was recognized automatically after installation and hasn't given me any quarks as of yet. This card is suitable for a home router with only a few simultaneous users and an average ~30Mbit/s internet connection. I ran an iperf from my desktop to this nic connected via a 1Gb/s link and determined that the actual throughput ranges from 850-950Mb/s. The hardware interrupts from this interface during the tests used up to 80% of the Core 2 Duo CPU in my router. If you're one of the lucky souls who has a Gigabit internet connection, invest in an Intel Nic and a more modern CPU. The included low profile bracket was easy to install, requiring only two screws. I'll update this reveiw if anything changes, but so far this seems to be a solid NIC for Desktop use or LITE server use.

I tried a dual port PCIE 1.0 Intel NIC but it didn't work. So, I tried this one, since my TP-Link switches have all been reliable and the reviews were good. As other reviewers have mentioned, it comes with a tiny driver disc with the bare drivers for most operating systems on it. Windows 7 and pfSense both worked without the need for the disc though. Since I haven't seen anyone explicitly mention this, the card comes with a full sized bracket attached and a spare low profile bracket. I mention this because not all cards advertising a low profile bracket come with a full sized bracket. It doesn't always happen but it does happen. I needed a new router quick and in a hurry. I had a HTPC collecting dust in the cabinet my networking equipment sits on top of. So, I decided to convert it to a pfSense box by installing pfSense to a thumb drive. That way, if I ever decide to convert it back to a HTPC, I can just yank the thumb drive out. I needed an extra port for my pfSense box, so I could segregate my WiFi from my wired network. I would have preferred a dual port NIC, just to have an extra port for future expansion, but the second port wasn't really necessary. I might just end up buying something better to handle pfSense in the future anyways. The card uses Realtek chips but I'm past the point of seeing that as a problem. If you're looking to use this in a more demanding environment, you're probably not looking at anything but Intel stuff anyways. This Network Adapter is a life changer for me. For years I have paid for 300mbps+ speeds on my Internet. I recently realized I was maxing out at 100mbps thus spending money unnecessarily. My issue was my Network Adapter that was a part of my Motherboard. Buying this adapter allows me to use the most of the MBPS I am paying or. I am averaging 294mbps using this adapter and I couldnt be happier. I can finally watch 4k and 8k videos without a ton of buffering. Installation was straight forward and anyone should be able to accomplish in 5 minutes or less. I highly recommend this adapter.
