Could be I got a lemon. I guess the most redeeming quality is that it was kind enough to die within the first 30 days. Was typing away in a safari browser, system locked then went black screen. After a reboot it said unable to find root device. Tried to format it and restore from backup and it stated that the drive could not be formatted. Even attempted to format with gparted, no luck. I have had issues with transcend flask drives in the past and was skeptical of this one from the get go. That said when it did work it was faster than the stock drive.

Just received this SSD upgrade for my laptop I had held off after reading that the first version of this drive had problems fitting in some systems. This new version fits perfectly in my Mid 2012 15 Macbook Pro Retina.I've been working on PCs and laptops for over 25 years and this was the easiest drive upgrade I have ever experienced. I was somewhat surprised at the simplistic 2 page instruction sheet but it was accurate enough to get the job done. The included USB case worked well for using Disk Utility for cloning the original SSD drive to the new SSD drive after booting to Recovery Mode (hold Option key when powering on). The JetDrive 725 is a extremely fast and reliable internal or external SSD. I have several rMBP and a JetDrive for each one with a complete bootable copy of the internal drive. I can effectively have all four macs in one location by using the JetDrives as an external drive, It is very fast, as fast a the internal SSD. There are no negatives that I found thus far. I expect the JetDrives to provide great service for years.

I replaced the 256GB internal SSD on my 2012 Macbook Pro Retina with the Transcend Jetdrive 725 480GB. I've been using it for about 2 weeks and its been working great. Pros * Easy installation * Comes with all the necessary tools * Faster than stock SSD(430MBps Write/490MBps Read on Black Magic) * Comes with external enclosure so the old drive can be used as an external drive Cons * Price per GB is a more than your typical SSD
Replaced a failed Apple SSD in MacBook Pro. Couldn't read the old SSD, so I ran the recovery portion from an external HD USB 2.0 so that took a while. Physical install was easy. Fit perfectly, good thing since there's no extra space anywhere. Got it all working via the USB interface before cracking the laptop to open and install, simple enough. Good opportunity to blow out all the accumulated dust too. Works fine so far. 400+ extra gigs will be nice too.
Overall, I'm extremely happy with the upgrade the added storage space. The drive seems just tiny bit slower than the original Apple drive but I don't have any hard numbers to back that up and it is barely noticeable. I'm very happy with the upgrade. Installation was extremely easy. The only issue with installation is the included instructions aren't up to date regarding regarding enabling of TRIM with Yosemite using Transcends JetDrive Toolbox App. A small bit of internet research cleared up the fact that this isn't supported and the functionality has been disabled in the App. The added benefit of using the old SSD drive with the external enclosure for an external SSD drive is great.
I can't believe how easy it was to swap out my 250 GB SSD drive that came with my MacBook Pro with this one. The tools that came with the drive were a perfect fit, the instructions were clear and I did the whole swap in about 10 minutes. It took a couple of hours to reload from my time machine backup, but everything worked perfectly and with the case they supplied, I have a spare 250 GB drive. I only wish it didn't cost so much.
This is nice it is like having a super super super fast hard drive and it allows for tons of battery life because there is no moving parts like normal hard drive . The only bad part is it is expensive when the price comes down I can see this replacing hard drives but not until price come down. And to really really make it take the place of hard drive they will have to increase the total capacity of the drive. One TB is not that big anymore the average computer now has about 2 to 3 TB of storage. So in closing this is a great product but if price concerns you then this is not for u because a normal hardrive will do just fine

The screws are all slightly different in lengths and the documentation makes no mention of it that you should be careful in making sure you know where they go back. Fortunately I knew this. What is really odd is that they have an excellent pdf on their website for the install which should be what is included with the product. An excellent step-by-step video is there as well. I researched this product just before the release of Yosemite and went this this brand over another. I wanted to make sure that TRIM could be enabled for the health of the SSD drive and all the documentation and video said it could. The 960GB Jetdrive 725 is a great addition if you initially bought a 15 Macbook Pro Retina with a 256Gb SSD. It's easy to install, and if you do some quick googling, you can figure out how to enable TRIM, so it operates just like the stock SSD. The enclosure that comes with the kit is a nice addition, and allows you to utilize the factory SSD as an external hard drive. While the Jetdrive is a little pricey, it gives you a little head room, and may be a more suitable option for those not looking to upgrade their Macbook Pros just yet. I just so happened to get mine on sale, so it was a more reasonable upgrade for me. So far, everything is running fine, and seems to be running just like normal. Should anything go awry, I'll report back.
