Trek FX 1 Disc Stagger Metallic Gunmetal Large

My first new bike. I've ridden a few second hand ones and decided to commit to a new bike due to more regular commutes. My commute is just over an hour on bike and the FX1 handles it very nicely. It's a smooth ride and easy gear changes. Great for a commute as well as weekend rides.

Quality seemed good to me, but then I'm no expert. Cycling colleagues liked it. Nice enough on the street to get nicked within three months. My own fault. Traveling light with a combination cable lock (no names mentioned). Disappeared off the cycle bay within a five minute shop pop. Only just added Profile Designs: Boxer Bar Ends (with adapters), Bontager fenders and changed the pedals. Was just about to purchase toe traps to fit. Light and agile bike for a 15min back street commute. Super deal from Balfe's. Super folk too. Now that its gone, I'm on the old battered Marin; I'll be looking at a cycle scheme certificate to replace it. Start over again, but this time, maybe with a bit more comfort. The Trek FX is an ok hybrid bike, it feels reasonably sturdy going over potholes, the hub breaks are great and it passes the 'wheeeee' test for my 3 year old when she's on the back. There are a few niggles; 1. for me the riding position is a little too 'sport' and in order to change that you need a new front handlebar stalk to raise it which I haven't gotten around too yet. 2. Maybe it will loosen over time but the ride is quite stiff and it feels like you are cycling with the beaks on sometimes. 3. The handlebars are a little bit basic compared to my last hybrid which was much more ergonomic, they seem to turn away from the shape of where they should be 4. The gear cogs seem to physically 'jump' when you go over a large bump as if they are resting onto a frame but not fixed which is a little disconcerting sometimes 5. There are a lot of gears but five of them are totally pointless and when shifted into they literally make no difference whatsoever, perhaps it would have been a bit lighter without the associated equipment to support those non functioning gears. 6. The rear rack has a raised lip on the saddle end which means that you cannot get a standard fork style child seat onto the bike and you need to get one that fits onto the rack. This means that the rack is not usable for panniers and therefore sortof useless 7. The seat is then also not interchangeable with other bikes and as the rack mounted seat is incredibly time consuming to take off it means for me it is not possible to store the bike in a bike hanger meaning I have to bring it into the house. Perhaps these are aspects that are bespoke to me but personally I think that the design of the bike as an equipped hybrid should have really seen some of these issues coming. Although the quality of the bike is fine I would not choose this brand and model again.

I caution anyone buying a bike on line (sadly I had to due to time constraint- lesson learnt) The bike itself is sound, the brakes good, and its a fast, light, comfortable ride and at the price ideal as my daily commuter hack doing 120+ miles a week.However the rear cassette and free wheel are terrible. Having seen a few forums since it seems it is a common problem with this entry level bike with lots of references to loud, wobbly, and grinding freewheel. If you want one I recommend you get it at the shop and try it out so you don't end up with a Friday model. The bike itself is satisfactory, what fall short of expectation are the "equipped" part, especially the lights and fenders. My front light snapped on day two when I try to take it off, the connecting points are made of weak plastic, I had to superglue it together. The rear light is not bright enough. My front fender also came loose within one month. Personally, I may replace the saddle too, but it's a personal preference for harder sportier saddles.

Amazing lightweight versatile bike!

Really amazing bike! Been riding it all over the city and took it camping. Very versatile and rides well on all terrain. I took away one star cause I can't seem to adjust the handle bars. The screw seems completely stuck.

Amazing service and bike! Trek FX3 Hybrid

My bike arrived really promptly with all the accessories I had ordered. Between ordering and arriving the service from Sigma was second to none, it felt really personalised! The bike itself is a beauty and I can't wait to find the time to take it on a long autumnal ride. Always rode drop handle but this is perfect fornipping about the city. Highly recommended.

Fantastic all rounder!

I was informed and updated at all stages from order to delivery, and the bike came very well packed, with gears and brakes adjusted well. The price was equal to, or better than every other retailer I could find.I use my Trek FX3 on a short 6 mile round trip to work each day, but also for running errands, visiting friends, taking it on the train and also for recreational/ fitness rides. It is a very efficient machine, even more so since I fitted my tyre of choice. This is only personal preference though, and I found the standard equipment fitted to the bike of an excellent quality.I'd highly recommend this bike!

First commuter bike, and I love it.

I walked in as a level zero experienced rider and left with a bike just right to move on to a level one experienced rider. Steve was able to tell me everything I asked and was concerned about in regards to the right bike for my needs and the way it should fit. After having used it to commute to work, it has struck a love for cycling and a deeper desire to learn more about the sport. The bike is a perfect fit for those starting and wanting to commute a short distance. Simple to use and feel like a pro, at least for those that are not. This is great starting step from getting away from the mountain bike and work into the world of road bikes. I am excited to return when the time is right to upgrade.

Great commuter

I use this for an 18 mile round trip commute. Didn’t feel comfortable with drops in heavy rush hour traffic but still wanted something fairly nippy. Fantastic little bike and super happy. Gear changing is smooth and the ergo grips are comfortable. Gear range is perfect. I commute up a steep hill and fly down it on the way home. Never felt like I ran out out of gears. Included rack, lights and fenders are all good quality. If I had 1 quibble I’d have liked a Dynamo front light for the price but otherwise very happy. Would definitely recommend as a commuter bike.
