Just took it out on the trails yesterday, it did great but the fork needs seriously updating if you're going to keep the bike, but at the price range its expected. The gears shift good, and tires are really good. Brakes aren't too bad, but with a new fork and a set of Shimano brakes you have a killer bike.

Just took it out on the trails yesterday, it did great but the fork needs seriously updating if you're going to keep the bike, but at the price range its expected. The gears shift good, and tires are really good. Brakes aren't too bad, but with a new fork and a set of Shimano brakes you have a killer bike.
I recently got into mountain biking and this was the second bike I purchased. Perfect for riding the trails where I live. Super fun and reliable bike that has helped ignite my passion for biking!
First bike that wasn't from Walmart. That said, this bike is excellent in my opinion. I use it for gravel travel between 5-8 miles. Reliable solid shifting that hold gear. Smooth riding on rough roads. Big tires with aggressive tread give a reassuring ride along with hydraulic disc brakes. Hopefully the last bike I'll ever buy. I enjoy have only one gear set, as it should require less maintainence, and I find the gear range to be sufficient. The seat is unbearably hard imo.
I purchased this bike to be used as a Security Patrol Unit for a Hospital. So far it is working great, the gearing is excellent, and the handling is awesome.
If your a true beginner like never rode bikes even in childhood this bike is for you. If you plan on doing any real riding though I'd skip this junk. Broke down 3 times now not trail worthy.
I just got it, no issues, the color is amazing, especially the purplish blue. It's fast, a blast to ride , no complaints so far, looking forward to riding it everyday.

I am an experienced mountain biker in my mid 50's - I'm nothing special, but I generally know what I'm doing on rough trails, hills, small jumps, etc. I have a fantastic Specialized Stumpjumper full suspension which can handle anything (the bike is way more capable than I am). This was my mountain bike for years in California (where they have, you know, real mountains). Now I live in a VERY hilly area of Saint Louis, MO. No mountains, but GREAT riding on streets and trails nonetheless. I love the trails at Castlewood, Zombie, North of 6 Flags, etc. But the thing is, I have to ride to many of the trails on the hilly streets here in St Louis. The Marlin is the perfect bike to tackle both those hilly smooth roads and the gnarly trails. My ... MoreEveryone has different needs.
