I have a hard time finding helmets that fit my big cranium, all other brand's XL did not fit this nicely and comfortably. The color is also an added bonus as my local bike shop did not have the colors I liked. Opted for the Red Pump for Peace design simply because the color and the message and the support for pumps. The helmet has customizable padding, doesn't sit high, covers a good portion of the back of the head, has very good air flow, good space for sunglasses and goggles, and adjustable visor. I took it out Mountain Biking day one and was extremely pleased with my purchase.

I hadn't bought a new helmet in 10 years, so maybe I'm not the most knowledgeable in this area, but the A3 has been awesome. It looks great, feels solid in the hands, and is well made. Troy Lee stuff has always had tasteful design and this is no exception. It's not overly styled or obnoxious; I didn't want to look like an X Games reject with an "extreme helmet!" as I just ride around on normal trails like a regular ass person. The internal MIPS system and padding make it basically not noticeable at all when I'm wearing it. I seriously forget that it's there most of the time. The venting could be a bit better at low speeds, but that's my only (minor) criticism. Since I starting again to practice MTB I’ve bought many helmets, some of them more expensive than others, among them Bell Super 3 which I used as a full face as well, POC Tectal Race Spin, POC Coron and wanted to give a try to this TLD A3 based on all the great reviews it has. By far is the best and more beautiful helmet I’ve ever had, it feels great as well as safer than any other helmet I’ve used, the quality and details are so good that I think about becoming loyal to that brand with protection stuff and clothes from now on. I got this helmet because I really like the full face I have and heard this was very comfortable. I pick helmets that have a hole in the back middle to top to put my ponytail through because I get too hot with my hair down on my neck.This helmet has the dial in the back to tighten/loosen the fit. Unfortunately my hair keeps getting caught in the two plastic pieces attached to the dial & in the dial itself, ripping my hair out. There was no way to know this was going to happen until the helmet was used which then makes it unreturnable. Very expensive mistake.I actually felt more comfort in my cheap Mongoose helmet. The dial at the back of the helmet is finely adjustable and pulls the whole helmet into a secure position with no hot spots or pressure points at weird places on my head. It just feels evenly distributed everywhere on my skull.I don't necessarily want to crash test it, but the MIPS liner seems well engineered and I hope it lives up to its claims if/when my confidence overrides my skill...
I thought I would throw out a female perspective for fellow dirt divas! I have an old TLD A1 2015 helmet that isn't MIPs that I decided to replace. I loved my A1 so I knew I was going to replace it with something similar. My A1 is XS/S (54-56 cm), the A3 I chose is also XS/S (53-56 cm) and it honestly barley fits my head, quite snug. I always wear a Buff to either keep my ears warm or to keep the sweat out of my eyes so that does add a bit of circumference. I think the next size up probably would of been too big, not sure. It might be worthwhile to find a shop near you to try on different sizes and styles of helmets before you purchase. I like the full coverage because you never know where impact is going to be. I like hucking off small cliffs/ jumps and the landings don't always go as planned! As for weight, the A3 is only 63 grams (2.22 oz) more so very insignificant for more protection. The only knocks I can give is the straps and strap adjusters by my ears, I prefer the lock clip on the old helmet and the straps seem like they are better quality than on the new helmet. I do really like the new under the chin magnetic side lock on the strap of the new helmet though.
Super comfortable, lightweight, good ventilation and great looks. All well and good, but what really matters is that it protects your head. I now have verifiable proof that it does. After going over the bars and landing face first, I was taken by ambulance to the ER. I received 4 CT scans on my head and neck all which showed no damage to my brain or spine. Highly unlikely that without this high quality helmet that the results were that good. The doctor was excited/surprised that there was no sign of any brain injury. My face was scraped and my mouth was torn up from my teeth, but nothing was broken.First thing I did was contact TLD and get a new A3 sent asap. Great customer service and discount for crash replacement. Money well spent!
I crashed with my previous helmet and completely cracked it. I liked the Troy Lee Helmet because of how it looked. I had an Oakley DRT 5 before this one.It has great ventilation with all the openings. The linen on the inside can be cut to adjust to personal preference. You also have two replacement sweat bands in case the one you have wears out. It would be nice if the sweat band was just washable instead of a small foam strip to throw away but not a big deal. My Oakley was washable. Once you use these 3, you have to buy new ones.The Helmet secures very well with the fidlock. I was a little concerned at first but it does the job really well.
