On an APS-C sensor, the resulting field of view is pretty close to what you get with a cellphone camera - but obviously this is a much bigger and more light-sensitive lens. Yet it's still light and compact enough that it's worth bringing along with you - the pictures really don't disappoint.Given the price, it's hard not to recommend it!

Love this new lens. Super affordable and easy to put on my Nikon Z50. I was looking for something with a wider angle for YouTube videos. It has really good bokeh. The lens cap is screw on so, a little wonky but not a big deal. I will warn, your camera must be in manual mode as auto focus won't work with this lens. Highly recommend

I'm a photographer with 55 years experience and this lens is truly impressive. Stopped down to f7-11 gives landscape & architectural photos corner to corner sharpness.Portraits are lovely wide open with pleasing color & tones are very nice. The build is amazing with wonderfully smooth focus damping, likewise with aperture ring.I found no serious issues which could not easily be correct in a good photo editor.The front lens cap is metal and of excellent quality. It screws into the front lens. The rear cap is plastic as with most lenses.Lastly the box the lens comes in is truly impressive and exhibits attention to fine detail in its quality. Very impressive indeed! My $3k Nikon lens came in a cheap cloth pouch inside a styrofoam case.I'm giving it 5 starts ... In manufacturing all the tolerances add up to a big bell curve for the final product. One always hopes for the tail end on the good side. This one looks like it was the opposite.This lens is too soft for my liking at F/1.4. It reminds me of my old 70's Nikon 50 mm F/1.4, it also goes so soft at F/1.4, so much that it looks like vaseline is on the lens. Sometimes useful for artistic effect, like lovers close up in old Hollywood movies.Anyway, I expected that for $120 lens. And I expected it would sharpen considerably at 5.6. And it does sharpen a lot in the center. But there's too much lateral color just halfway from center to edge. Bright objects have red outline on the outside, and bluish purple on the inside. Really? But it would have been far more useful to me if it was simpler, smaller and lighter, like a modern Tessar lens, such as that on the Minox GTS, but for M4/3rds. I have an old 17 mm C-mount Wollensak that's better than this lens at F/5.6 and it's an older Cooke Triplet design, though it vignettes to much to fill the frame. The aperture clicks, which is nice, but just barely, which is not nice. Might as well be clickless.

Unfortunately, the soft resolution in the corners makes it almost useless wide open. Build quality: excellent, all metal and glass construction, and the focus is smooth. I like having the aperture ring at the front of the lens, and having click stops is nice, although the detents are a bit too soft. Optical quality: At f1.4, the center is reasonably sharp, but the corners are very soft. Contrast is a bit low, and there is significant color fringing. By f2, contrast and color fringing are much better, and there is some improvement in the corners, but not enough. At f2.8 there is enough overall improvement that I would say ... I bought this mostly out of curiosity as to how it would pair with my Nikon fc, admittedly to expecting a lot in the way of quality. Surprisingly, it has turned out to be a lot of fun to play with and it's truly delivered quality images, especially for the low price! Is it a Leica lens? No, but it does a really nice job and has solid sharpness across the frame. Very little distortion, if any in the corners. It also stays with the "manual" nature of the fc and after just a few minutes it became instinctive enough to not really have to think about having to use the manual focus. Again, pleasantly surprised with the quality of images from this lens and even more pleased with how much fun it's been!

I like the contrast of the lens when I shoot black and white on my digital camera easy to control within the camera, very few corrections needed in Photoshop once you understand how the lens works.One slight annoyance is when you mount the lens it seems to take a little bit more force then necessary, that's why I returned it for an exchange on the same lens.Functionability in handling getting to the f-stop in the focusing is very easy, I have relatively normal to small hands which makes it easier for me to control. Another impressive lens from TT. It's not a shaaaaarp lens, it's a beautiful lens. If you enjoy 3D pop, life-like rendering, deep colors - this is the lens for you and it rivals expensive German glass in that magical look. If shaaaarpness is your only metric of lens performance and you require it to be surgical in 800% far corner zooms, you'll hate it. Stick to that lifeless ART glass.
I purchased this lens, along with TTArtisan's 35mm f/1.4 lens, for my Fuji X-Pro3.Both lenses are almost adorably tiny, the 17mm a little longer in length than the 35mm (as well as $30 the more expensive too), and look good on the front of my X-Pro.Both, are very fine optical lenses, especially when you consider the price points for both... no noticeable distortion, a little on the soft side, but only just enough to give the lens nice character, not any enough to detract from the image.Only real con being on both lenses, there is at times a very pronounced magenta chromatic aberration, noticeably on solid white subjects... but, is correctable in post, so not a real deal breaker... plus, so far, have converted all the images I have taken so far to black and ... I was very excited when I got the lens cause I like all my other TTArtisan lenses. Sadly, this one is a real let down. I hope it's just that I received a bad copy but I don't have time to get an exchange before my next trip.Basically one of my lens tests is infinity focus, and it failed that one spectacularly. As you can see in my test photos (600% zoomed), infinity focus is pretty much non-existence at f=1.4. The other side of the spectrum (f=16) is also pretty bad. Only f=8 yields acceptable clarity. I bought this lens cause I wanted that fast aperture for aurora shooting, but its shockingly bad infinity focus capability makes that job a mission impossible.Just to clarify, I do know a lot of lenses don't focus at infinity when you rotate the focus ring to the ... I hope it's just that I received a bad copy but I don't have time to get an exchange before my next trip.Basically one of my lens tests is infinity focus, and it failed that one spectacularly. As you can see in my test photos (600% zoomed), infinity focus is pretty much non-existence at f=1.4. The other side of the spectrum (f=16) is also pretty bad. Only f=8 yields acceptable clarity. I bought this lens cause I wanted that fast aperture for aurora shooting, but its shockingly bad infinity focus capability makes that job a mission impossible.Just to clarify, I do know a lot of lenses don't focus at infinity when you rotate the focus ring to the infinity symbol, so I did try rotating the ring to the other direction, and nope, that only made things worse. And I did re-focus after switching aperture.
