A surprisingly good lens

I bought this lens, on a whim, in order to photograph my watches on an XT-4. (I normally use the GFX camera system.)I was pleasantly surprised at the heft and design of the lens. It is very well-made and more than acceptable when stopped down a stop or two.I am a pro with over 40 years experience and I would not hesitate to suggest this lens for the FujiFilm X mount cameras.

For less than a tank full of gas?.

I?m new to macro shooting, so this is my benchmark lens. Or as is often said in life, ?you never forget your first?.I?m very happy with the results I?ve gotten thus far and I?m certain it?s capabilities outweigh my talents in this particular rabbit-hole of photography. I?m also confident this lens, with it?s absolutely impeccable build quality and awesome tactile focus and aperture controls will help me attain greater things shooting smaller subjects, as it?s a pleasure to use such a well made, ?old school? style lens which actually encourages it?s use. For $99.- it?s an amazing and very enjoyable piece of gear to use.And?.I LIKE the crazy metal lens cap!

Good macro for Fujifilm X camera

For the price, a good macro lens for my Fuji camera. Fits well, but camera functions do Not work with this lens...so you have to use the lens itself for any adjustments. The lens does have zoom adjustment, so you have some control over just how close up you want to get to the subject. I find this lens useful, and as a starter macro lens I am satisfied with it. But I will eventually get a more expensive macro lens that is truly compatible with the Fujifilm camera.

Great lens for digitizing slides! (Canon m200 + Nikon ES-1)
8 January 2022

I purchased this lens for my Canon m200 EF-M camera, in the hopes of using it to digitize decades-old Kodachrome 64 slides with a Nikon ES-1 slide copier attachment. I am very pleased with the results. The Nikon ES-1 slide copier attachment is known to work well with the Nikon's 40mm micro lens on Nikon DX cameras, where the slide matches the photographed image size. I can report that this is also true with the TTArtisan 40mm lens on my Canon m200, which has a similarly-sized APS-C sensor. The filter threads are also 52mm, which match the Nikon ES-1 perfectly without an adapter. With this combination I am getting sharp images with the film grain visible. The lens is all-metal and has a good feel. It also has a solid connection to the camera, making it possible to digitize slides at ISO 100 at the sharpest aperture like f5.6 or f8.0 even with slow shutter speeds.I would have loved to be able to use automatic focus for digitizing slides, but the manual focus ring has a good feel and is very controllable at macro distances. Combined with the manual focus aids in the camera (zooming in the viewfinder and highlighting areas in focus in red) it's quite easy to peak the focus and get sharp photographs of the slides. My camera's automatic exposure feature works well with the lens as long I you put the camera in P (Program) mode -- it will choose an appropriate shutter speed for the lighting and ISO setting and +/- exposure settings. M (Manual) mode works too. Note that A (Aperture priority) relies on signals from the lens and does not give correct exposures. This lens can be used for general-purpose photography, but the manual focusing at distances over a few meters is finicky. Also the focus can be set past infinity rather than stopping at infinity. All in all, this is a great lens at an excellent price for digitizing slides or playing with macro photography!

Macro For your Money
23 June 2022

I've enjoy this cheap (only in cost, not quality) lens, I've taken so many pictures with a Z50 Nikon Mirrorless. The detail it brings out is impeccable. I was Skeptical on what the craftsmanship of the product would be like. When I was unboxing I was actually shocked at the quality and durability of the more than affordable lens. After use of it for a few months Shoot all things macro... I'm sold on the lens. To be honest knowing what I know now I would of spent quadruple if it had af built in to it. Definitely worth the money. Happy customer with this lens and always with B&H.

Nice super sharp macro for Fuji
9 November 2021

Was bummed out that the Fuji 60 could not go 1:1 looked at other imports but clicked on TT on impulse and price as if I really wanted top notch macro I have adapted Nikkors. Yep I am sounding kind of dumb. The lens is very well built the focus ring moves like it should with no play left or right as you dial in no slack, unlike its 35 f1.4 sister which has a tiny bit of slack. Was very impressed with its imaging qualtiy. In test I went from 2.8 up and must say the lens is sharp wide open but gets better. No definitve tests just shooting a couple of nik knacks on a bookshelf. So I feel its a good buy. My adapted Nikkors are limited by their cheap adaptors, my fault inherent cheapness so yes there is some guilt about throwing over Fuji and Nikon for this lens and I'll ... MoreWas bummed out that the Fuji 60 could not go 1:1 looked at other imports but clicked on TT on impulse and price as if I really wanted top notch macro I have adapted Nikkors. Calling it a Whim discredits the engineering and science that went into its production as well as the people that built it. Physical workers never get any credit but without them you would have nothing.

Successful solution for slide copying
30 May 2022

I never had much interest in macro photography and wouldn't have sought such a lens out, but needed an option for 35mm slide copying. Scanning hundreds of slides would have been tedious and costly. This lens did the trick, used with the Nikon ES-1, which strikes me as a tailor-made combination. My slides were taken with Zeiss glass so I had high demands on sharpness and color rendition. I'm happy to say this lens did an amazing job and exceeded my expectations.

Super versatile lens!
21 February 2023

Being a nature photographer, it is a pain having to switch back and forth between different lenses, but this has become the only lens I bring when I'm heading out the door! The ability to get all the way to 1:1 magnification but still be sharp and crisp with larger subjects at 20mm is absolutely fantastic! I've been using for both video and photo with few issues! Metal screw on lens cap is different for sure, but I've found myself liking it a lot, as I don't worry about it falling off.Only downside: some light reflections inside the body when external lights are reflected from certain angles, which causes some almost light leak looking issues, and looses sharpness past f/8 but otherwise, it is phenomenal.

Totally Satisfied
9 January 2022

It's really hard to believe that a lens of this price can perform so well. It's well built, the focus ring is smooth and the clicked aperture ring enables easy selection. I used this lens to achieve 1:1 macro shots and as a normal 40mm lens on my Fuji cameras. I've owned Nikon and Tokina macro lenses at 5 times the price and honestly it performs just as good if not better. It handles chromatic aberrations very well. It's a totally manual lens so everything has to be set manually, which is not a problem for me. Using a mirrorless camera with focus peaking, it's very easy to nail focus. If you are thinking about buying the lens, just do it. You won't be disappointed.

Unbelievably sharp, short focus throw
1 May 2023

This lens is a pleasure to shoot with. It is definitely one of the sharpest lenses I have ever shot with. It is a little less contrasty than I would normally like but this works well in helping me focus on small objects. My only complaints about this lens is that is does focus by extending the barrel and the focus throw is a bit short for my taste. Otherwise, given the price, this is another amazing value by TTartisan.
