Ugears - Marble Run Stepped Hoist
You look "marble ous" Introducing the Marble Run Stepped Hoist, the second in a series of Ugears modular marble runs. This fun and fascinating wooden marble run features an ingenious 3 stepped alternating lift mechanism and a set of new features to hold your attention as you watch the marbles make their cyclical journey. Multiple tracks and elements are packed into a compact space in this DIY marble run. The model has a 3 stage alternating lift that hands the marbles back and forth as they climb to the top to embark on their amusement park adventures. Which marble will take which track, and which will make it down first. The Marble Run Stepped Hoist features a 3 marble accumulator in which the third ball opens the gates for the trapped first and second marbles, sending all three along their divergent paths. There are three tracks the first consists of a 2 marble accumulator and serpentine run, the second is a hammer swing inside a C shaped cradle, and the third has a whirlpool or funnel. All marbles eventually pass through the collection tray and into the seesaw lift. A rocker switch mechanism either sends the marbles back along the return track to the 3 stepped lift, or (and this is where it gets really exciting) into another attached Ugears marble run.

This was a fun build. I like the mechanism that releases the marbles MUCH better on this run than the first run. The only issue I have found is that sometimes a marble will miss the stop at the bottom of the waiting area for the steps and jump off the run. I haven't figured out of it's the speed of the gears turning or poor design.

Engineering and tolerances were amazing. I only had to make two modifications; substituted ball bearing for marble in one place for extra weight, and had to file down one stub in eccentric that was interfering with movement.

I have to rate this kit as a 5 star. Good instructions. Well made parts. Challenging for first build. Highly recommend these kits.

Fun assembly, to bad it doesn't do what it's designed to do. Like most of U-gear's magnificent projects, the designers expectations far exceed my capabilities!
I just completed the Stepped Hoist Marble Run. The track is so interesting with lots going on. It was a lot of fun to put together. Some pieces are very delicate and I broke a couple popping them out (I should have used an exacto knife to release them from the backing), but they were easy to glue together and are just fine in the assembled model. This is my third UGears kit: Dream Cabriolet and the Safe are the other two. I have really enjoyed putting these together, and hope to get a different marble run at some point. Super impressed with this company.
The building was fun but the small pieces were too fragile. And they broke. (From my 13 yr old daughter)
I am very pleased with Ugears models and I have quite a lot. The quality of the plywood in this model isn't upto the usual standards. When pressing out the pieces, small edges break off, which isn't good for the assembly of the model and disappointing.Danke, Ron Harrison.
This particular locomotive model is a real challenge. For me, that's the fun!
If you enjoy building wooded puzzles, especially mechanical toys, this is a well designed and designed product. I am currently building this item.
Well pleased keeps every one entertained who see it in action. Grandson enjoyed building it
