Ugears - Scrambler UGR-10 with Sidecar

Don't buy this model. This kit was the biggest disappointment from Ugears I have had.First of all the parts fit was way too loose. If you don't use glue you will end up with a hand full of parts. I mean you put together a sub assembly then the assembly and three steps down the line a little part falls off requiring you to tear everything down and start again.And there is poor engineering such as the headlight is really difficult to put in and then falls out when you let it go. Some of the rubber band assemblies are impossible to put together.The motor action never had a chance as it was too rough to move the geared parts even before adding the rubber bands.Finally when I was able to wind the motor a quarter of a turn it put so much pressure on the frame it broke ... MoreDon't buy this model. I would have to agree with the other people with their criticism of this model. I needed to have them send me about 15 replacement parts. They needed to do this, because I finished the build and I couldn't even wind it up with out gears slipping. I had to tear it apart to try and find the problem which broke the parts. I just finished it again, and it still doesn't run. I believe the culprit is the gear that connects the motor to the drive train of the back wheels. It is also the same gear that the sidecar attaches to. There are also quit a few parts that you have to glue together.Fun to build and will add it to my collection, looks great, DOESN'T RUNUgears you need to go back to the drawing board on this one.

A great kit and gift idea

This is the second one of these kits I’ve bought for my husband and both have been fab. He cracked this one out in approx 18 hours split over a week.It is fiddly and challenging but that is the whole point! It’s meant to take a while to do, however there are lots of little parts and detailed instructions provided to enable you to make a really realistic motorbike and side car.The kits always have lots of little details, like movable wheels, keys, gears, petrol can etc etc that add an interactive element to them.These models are so intricate, we have both been really impressed with them.A fab gift and I will definitely be buying more.

An excellently detailed modelled, high quality with easy to follow instructions!

Very happy with this purchase for my husband, who is recovering from an operation. He says it’s very robust, good detail in the model and the instructions are simple and clear. The delivery was super fast and over all we both very impressed with the quality especially at such a reasonable price. If you like model building, you won’t be disappointed. Thank you, UGears!

Brilliant models, can't wait to get more.

I don't understand the negative reviews these models get, this is my second UGears model that I received yesterday, I've been working on it now for nearly 7 hours and have managed to complete the bike, I just need to build the side-car now.These are not meant to be thrown together in a couple of minutes, you need patience, time and lots of care, the pieces are delicate, however I have not broken anything yet, you need to ease them out of the boards, they are laser cut very precisely, only been held in place by a tiny part that you need to gently snap to release each piece. (I found a lit tealight candle and small paint brush very helpful in applying wax where needed)The only negative thing i have to say is the mechanics, although thoroughly enjoyable to assemble, it didn't matter how much sanding and waxing I did, I can't get it to run smoothly, but, with the time and effort it has taken to build these, I have no intention in playing with them, they will purely be ornamental.A few top tips I found helpfull:1. Use melted wax and a small paint brush (tealight candles work a treat)2. A pair of tweezers come in handy for handling the small pieces3. Nail clippers work brilliant for cutting the cocktail stick, instead of a knife)

Do not buy ugears with toothpicks

Do not buy ugears that use toothpicks. They do not ever fit and your fingers will bleed. You either have to drill the holes or sand the toothpick or glue.Rokr wood models are superior to these and never require toothpicks. They also use much higher quality wood. The ugears **** is like sandpaper in comparison.

Good and bad

This is the 8th Ugears model I have assembled so far. I would like to summarize what I like and what I dislike about the model. Good: 1) the price is reasonable considering all the pieces it has. Typically, it is sold at 1 cent per piece. This model has 200+ pieces and it cost over $20 and so it is reasonable. 2) it is easy to pop out the pieces from the sheet compared to other models. 3) the model is sophisticated and will take up some of your time. Not good: 1) the wood is one third thinner compared to other kits. 2) the pieces are very small. So if it is your first model to assemble, it may be frustrating. 3) the worst part is the toothpick. This is my sixth model, and it is the first one I am disappointed with.Normally I find the Ugears models to be high quality with amazing precision, but I find that this motorcycle with sidecar has problems: the toothpicks are thicker than in other models making it much harder to properly fit them; the pieces are much looser than any other kit; because the parts are so loose, the gears don’t mesh properly and so are hard to turn. Motorcycle 'Zen'!

Whoever did this motorcycle with sidecar, please do me a favor? Relay a message from me to say that this project is my 18th since Covid kept me home. I've done some of the tougher ones, bigger ones, like the Cabriolet, Steam Engine and Tender car, almost all of the race cars, etc., but this one, in particular, was tops in punching out the pieces so easily, and how each piece fitted without a lot of finger pressure, and kept me in suspense as each piece made it stronger and more functional. Of course, you know, that none of these are 'glueless'. If a part keeps falling out, and it has no moving function, it gets some gorilla super glue. I was actually thrilled when finished because it looked so good. I don't know if I can find another that's so appealing. But, I've already started looking. I've noticed I have some calluses on my thumb and forefinger, plus I use my fingernails a lot. I don't use 'YouTube' for help because I'd like to figure it out for myself. Also, I think when doing the instructions, it would be educational and helpful to explain what part you are working on. Mostly though, I feel whoever is originating these, is close to Genius! Not Easy, But Very Cool!

This is the second ugears model that I bought, and this time I learned that you need to be extremely careful to get it to work properly!There is one "hack" that was necessary to get this one to work though. The knob that is used to wind up the bike is too tight by default - when you turn it you hear a squeaking sound and can feel the wood constantly sticking from too much friction. I needed to shave off maybe one mm or so from piece 18, and then after putting it together again it worked really nicely (after carefully sanding and waxing all moving parts)! Although it's still not so effortless to wind - you should wind it by hand since the wooden key will break. I found that melting a candle and applying the melted wax to the gears with a paintbrush worked very well for the waxing.Overall it has amazing attention to detail, and so many cool moving parts that you don't expect! It was very cool to work away on it for 15 or so minutes per day for about a month maybe - you definitely shouldn't rush through it! So far I really love these modles and it's really so cool discover how they work as you build them. They don't work smoothly though without putting in a lot of effort. It would be worth it anyways because building them is really cool anyways, but it definitely gives you a sense of accomplishment if you can actually get it going!
