UE has always been known for their clear sharp sharp-sounding speakers and what the Epicboom brings to the tables it’s not only louder but the bass is much more robust compared to their Megaboom 3, Boom 3, and Wonder-Boom 3 speakers. The Hyperboom it’s the loudest out of their lineup but it’s also the least portable one too. There’s also an outdoor mode that will make it sound louder but you will sacrifice some bass. The UE app allows you to choose from 4 sound profiles and create your own sound profile by adjusting the bass, mid, and treble. Out of the box, it comes enabled with adaptive EQ. It uses built-in mics to analyze the sound and make adjustments based on the environment. For the most part, I left it like this since it sounded good with different genres of music like EDM, Hip-Hop, Rock, and Spanish music too.For the UE app besides allowing you to adjust the EQ settings, you can also perform updates, and enable the outdoor mode. You also have the ability to turn off the speaker and view current battery life. The Epicboom can be pricey but you know what you get with an UE product. You get amazing build quality, and sound quality, that is backed by a 2-year warranty. It’s a solid product that in my opinion it’s well worth it.

My favorites are Deep Relaxation and the “Outdoor Boost” button. Directions say this button gives a 1db boost but for me it makes this little speaker sound like a surround sound system giving it a really immersive sound. Also, the EPICBOOM has both left and right channels to help explode your sound. Using the app you can also set up your one-touch playlist from Amazon, Apple Music or Spotify. Once you set this up, simply pressing the “Magic” button will start playing your pre-defined playlist. The app also has a “PartyUp” feature that allows you to connect up to 150 boom speakers. Pairing my MegaBoom and EPICBOOM together was successful and sounded great when it worked. Unfortunately, there were a lot of drop outs and catch ups making PartyUp difficult to listen to. I imagine this is something that can be fixed with firmware updates.Rated for 17 hours, you can expect to get a full day’s use out of the speaker then connect it to your charger with USB C.The EPICBOOM is IP67 rated so no worries about the beach or pool and it floats. There is a carry strap that's held down magnetically but I would have preferred the strap be more a solid strap allowing you to hold it like a mug rather than a purse.Overall I really like the EPICBOOM and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a great speaker at this price point.

Ultimate Ears did an excellent job of packaging the product, and unboxing is an enjoyable and straightforward process. In the box, you'll find the speaker, a USB-C charging cable, and various bits of paperwork with instructions and warranty information.Build quality is very nice with the EPICBOOM, as the majority of the speaker is a durable dark grey/black fabric-like material, with sections of plastic and rubber. The bottom of the EPICBOOM is rubberized, and is a different color and texture. On the top are the main controls, along with big “+” and “-“ signs on the front that control volume. On the bottom of the speaker are some grips for standing, and printed information on the underside panel. There are also 3 LED lights above the volume controls, that light up to let you know the charge level. While the EPICBOOM is on the heavier side for a Bluetooth speaker, it’s still light enough to easily be considered portable. There is a carrying loop on the rear of the speaker as well, for when you want to take your speaker with you on the go.The controls are simple enough, with a power button, a button used to pair the speaker, an “Outdoor Boost” button, and a play/pause button. There is also a Near Field Communication (NFC) icon, yet this only works with Android phones (and I was testing with Apple products). Connecting to my phone was done in seconds, and there is an Ultimate Ears BOOM app that I downloaded to further customize the EQ and sound settings of my speaker. Pushing the power button will quickly turn the speaker on or off, and automatically connect to your device’s Bluetooth. The pairing button is used by holding it in until the light starts blinking; this means that the EPICBOOM is now discoverable. The play/pause button is used to start or stop music playback, as well as skip forwards and back to different tracks. When I used the EPICBOOM in my backyard, it seemed that the Outdoor Boost button slightly lowered the bass frequencies, making it easier to max out the volume. While the EQ on the app is not very complex, I thought it was more than adequate for finding the best possible sound in every situation. This model also has adaptive EQ that tailors the sound based on your environment, and it seemed to work well. I admittedly did not notice a huge difference between leaving this setting on and then turning it off, but I would imagine that this also depends on where you’re playing the speaker. To test the EPICBOOM, I played a variety of music, from hip-hop, electronic, rock, classical, country, and reggae genres. I also connected the speaker to my TV and watched an action movie with the EPICBOOM as the sole audio source, to see what it could do. While the EPICBOOM has an amazingly clear and well-defined sound, it truly excels at reproducing bass in music and movies. On bass-heavy genres like hip-hop and electronic music, the low end was impressive, and remained strong even with the volume nearing 100%. The mid-range frequencies were also stunning, and really shined on rock, metal, and classical music that I listened to. The highs were crisp and clear, and were never impacted by the bass or mids. I do not know how many speakers are actually used inside the EPICBOOM, but it sounds as if it has dedicated high and low drivers. Also, the EPICBOOM gets loud! It's rated as a max volume of 94 decibels, and I do not doubt that this is accurate after spending some time with it. What impressed me was how good the sound remained even at high volumes – even when pushed, the bass was powerful, and every frequency came through beautifully. When I watched an action movie, I could clearly hear dialogue when quieter scenes were playing, and during action sequences, the impact of the EPICBOOM provided a great theatre-like sound.Other things about the EPICBOOM:- Charging is relatively quick with the included USB-C cable. I love that the 3 lights let me know how full the charge is.- It is rated as IP67 water and dust-proof, and can spend 30 minutes submerged in water.- You can use a “Party Up” feature to connect to other Ultimate Ears speakers, and play music in sync at even crazier volumes.- The battery life is rated at 17 hours, which I found to be a REALLY long time! I have been able to charge it, and then use it for hours before I even need to think about recharging it. I also like that the app has a battery life gauge to keep me informed as well.- The EPICBOOM has cool little sounds for when you turn it on, connect it to Bluetooth, etc. These can be turned off in the app.- Updating the firmware is also done using the app. I found that it took about 10-15 minutes to apply an update shortly after I first started using the EPICBOOM.- EQ has 5 presets, and is a 5-band EQ system.Overall, I have been astounded at how well the EPICBOOM has performed with anything I’ve thrown at it. The only possible downside I can think of is that it may be a bit on the larger side for a Bluetooth speaker, but it’s still compact enough to be put into a backpack, in my opinion. Even though it’s not tiny, it feels extremely robust, well made, and could easily be used to entertain a group of people. Additionally, the Ultimate Ears BOOM app is responsive and easy to use, and makes customizing the sound of your EPICBOOM even more streamlined. If you are looking for a Bluetooth speaker that can deliver on huge, impressive sound, I would definitely recommend the Ultimate Ears EPICBOOM!

Excellent portable speaker with bass
14 September 2023

The Logitech Ultimate Ears EPICBOOM is a fantastic portable speaker that produces great sound quality whether I used it indoors or outdoors. It was very quick to get it out of the box and into use. The box contained the speaker, the USB-C charging cable, and the quick start guide. It was very quick to get it out of the box and into use. The box contained the speaker, the USB-C charging cable, and the quick start guide. I can verify that it does float, and has a IP67 rating which means it can be submerged in water for up to 30 minutes and still work. It charges via the USB-C cable connecting to a charging port on the back of the speaker, and a full charge lasted me 15 hours. The speaker contains two 45mm drivers and one 120mm woofer that deliver sound in 360 degrees. I was able to connect via NFC on my Android phone but I would think most users will connect with Bluetooth. It has the capability to connect to 2 devices at the same time. I could connect with it at least 100 feet away with no sound loss, and the box states it will connect as far away as 180 ft. I mainly used it outside and there is a unique feature where I could push the outdoor boost button on top and it raises the volume slightly. I thought the sound quality out of the box was perfect for a portable speaker. The bass is usually underwhelming with portable speakers because the woofers are small and weak, but the EPICBOOM had bass that I could feel from some distance, even outside which was a pleasant surprise. The clarity is remarkable, and it will adjust the EQ automatically for the best output based on internal mics. There is the BOOM app which can be downloaded onto your phone, and from there the EQ can be customized as you desire. I don't have another Ultimate Ears speaker, but if you do they will all connect to each other for a multi-speaker setup. I used it in a pool environment and it worked wonderfully. It is unobtrusive but produces powerful sound that can be clearly heard over common noises. Indoor use was even better. Streaming music from YouTube produced crisp, clear audio that can adjusted suitably for a small room or to be heard at the other end of the house while doing some cleaning. I was impressed with the Logitech Ultimate Ears EPICBOOM, and I recommend it for any portable speaker use, whether outdoors or indoors.

Great sound, easy to use, and great battery life

I already have and I’m very happy with Sonos Roam speakers. I use them regularly, paired with my phone via Wi-Fi, primarily on my outdoor patio. However, I’m not a fan of switching them to Bluetooth function and pairing them when I travel beyond my home. So, when I got the Logitech Ultimate Ears EPICBOOM I was primarily interested in using it as a travel/outdoors speaker for easy Bluetooth pairing to my phone, and my family members’ and friends’ phones.I’m happy to report that it took me only a few minutes to unpack and pair the EPICBOOM. When I cranked up the volume I was surprised how loud it was… dramatically more than my Sonos Roams! Even though the bass is dramatic, there’s very little distortion. Overall, the sound quality is fantastic. Also, I really love the huge physical volume up/plus and down/minus buttons on the front of the EPICBOOM… they make it easy to control the speaker.I’ve tested the Bluetooth range in 2 ways. First, with the EPICBOOM on my patio I went inside the house and the connection was fine until about 50-60 feet, but that is through brick walls and on a different floor. Outside without obstructions the range I achieved is approximately 100 feet before the signal becomes choppy (it continues beyond this range in choppy form until it entirely stops). This range is much better than my other Bluetooth devices, but not quite as long as the theoretical limit. A feature new for me is the EPICBOOM’s Bluetooth standby feature enabled from the phone app. This allows you to turn on the speaker from the phone, a very nice convenience. The battery life is outstanding. My experience is that there’s less than a 5% (you can monitor battery level via the phone app) reduction in battery level for each hour I’ve used the EPICBOOM.The only major feature I haven’t tried is the speaker’s water resistance. Apparently, the EPICBOOM is not only water resistant, it also floats! The EPICBOOM is a great wireless speaker that I strongly recommend.

Great, Portable 360 degree Bluetooth Speaker!

The Ultimate Ears EPICBOOM Portable Wireless Bluetooth Speaker is a a great speaker. Following are my observations after testing it out:- The speaker comes with a simple, intuitive set of instructions. Getting started was very easy. The speaker easily paired with my iPhone to allow me to start using it immediately. All necessary controls to operate it without an App are provided on the top of the unit.- You can also download the Ultimate Ears App to provide some advance features, such as one-touch access to your playlists, an Equalizer, access to Party Up mode, Outdoor Boost button, volume control, power on/off, an alarm, turning on/off the speaker tones, etc. While some of these controls are also on the speaker, the App gives you access to these controls also, to ... MoreThe Ultimate Ears EPICBOOM Portable Wireless Bluetooth Speaker is a a great speaker. I tried it out in my yard, and this did provide better sound that just turning up the volume.- I love the 5-band adaptive equalizer. It lets you pick from 5 preprogrammed options - Signature Sound, Bass Boost, Game/Cinema, Deep Relaxation, and Podcast/Vocal, but it also lets you set your own custom options and name/save them for future use. This is a great feature to allow you to customize the sound to your preference and optimize the sound for whatever you are listening to.- There is a feature called the Magic Button, which after easily adding playlists from your phone or services like Amazon Music or Apple Music, allows you to play, pause and skip tracks with that button.- It has an IP67 rating for protection against dust, dirt, sand and water. It can be under water for up to 30 minutes without damage. This is a nice feature when using outdoors to prevent damage from the elements.- The speaker operates for up to 17 hours on a full charge.- There is a Party Up mode that allows you to sync to multiple speakers at the same time.- It comes with a USB-C to USB-C cable for charging. You'll need to make sure you have a USB-C charging block to use with the cable. New iPhones have the USB-C block and most laptops have a USB-C option.- The Bluetooth range is up to 180 feet, which is a long distance for a portable speaker and comes in very handy outside.- The speaker has 360 degree spatial awareness, which allows it to read the room you have it set up in and adjusts the sound based on the room or whether it is indoors or outdoors. I like the 360 degree feature of this speaker. Instead of only having speakers that fire forward, it literally provides the same quality of sound at any point around the entire speaker, so it is easy to hear for everyone, no matter where you are sitting around it.- It comes with a handy carrying strap that is attached but out of the way when not using it. The speaker itself is a nice looking speaker and it feels like it is a quality piece of technology.- As you can tell, this speaker has a lot of features, but the most important thing of all is that it has great sound! I tested it out with a variety of music genres, loud, soft, male & female voices, acoustic and hard rock, spoken word, etc. It performed great with everything I tested on it. It provides a surprising amount of bass punch for this size of speaker. Everything I played was clear and non-distorted. The Outdoor Boost feature enhanced the sound while testing it outdoors. As mentioned, the equalizer allows you to customize the sound to your preference for anything you listen to. Even with the default signature sound, it sounds great with anything I've played on it.I am really enjoying my new EPICBOOM speaker and highly recommend it!

Highly portable, but Epic in output BT speaker

No styrofoam in the excellent packaging! Stated to be carbon neutral in the manufacture and shipping, with recyclable packaging. The product has been manufactured with sustainability in mind. The company states a 15W charger will fully charge the battery in 2 hours. They noted that it needed to be more than just your laptop’s USB-C port, however. The speaker was very simple to set up via the download from the Apple App store or Google Play for Android.Easy to use iPhone app which walked you through the steps. I was quickly informed to download firmware update, which was quickly accomplished via WiFi.The Epicboom is a substantial sound source. Hefty in handling, not a lightweight; weighing in at about 2 kg. It is twice the size of the 2018 released Wonderboom. It does sport the UE trademark large + and - volume controls on the front of the speaker, as do their entire line of portable speakers.I felt it had astounding bass; enough to irritate neighbors if you live in an apartment. The bass even with the Bass Boost off was rather prodigious indoors. It could be a lease breaker in an apartment…I was easily able to select Epicboom as a choice on my Peloton bike; having the workout music through a more robust speaker than over the built in Bike speaker made the pedaling to the beat even more enjoyable. The Epicboom iPhone app was easy to use. You can link to AppleMusic or Spotify and it gives you one touch playing of your previously linked playlists. Using the “Magic” button, even if the speaker has been turned off, will turn on the speaker and starts playing your last chosen playlist. The app has a limit of 4 such stored playlists, which you can cycle through on the app or by repeatedly pressing the Magic button. There is a prodigious BlueTooth reach from phone to speaker. Using wireless earbuds as a comparison, my earbuds’ Bluetooth range fades to poor audio at about 25 feet, and disappears completely if you leave from the living room into the garage. But if I take my phone about 50 feet (out into the backyard, and into the shed) from the speaker inside the house, with several doors closed between the two), the sound quality doesn’t fade a bit. UltimateEars states that the Bluetooth range is 180 feet (55 meters). There is on the top an Outdoor setting marked as a little tree, one touch, to optimize the sound for non-enclosed rooms, etc. I think this generally mostly boosts the bass. Also on the top of the speaker is a NFC button, to one touch connect to a NFC-compatible smartphone with Android 8.0 or later. As an iPhone owner, I did not trial that feature.Waterproofing to an IP 67 rating for protection from pool side splashes or even short term immersion up to a depth of 1 meter. It actually floats, a feat I did not test out. There is a fabric loop on the top back of the speaker, which uses a magnet to snap in place when released, keeping it tidy but available. The EpicBoom uses 2 mid to high range speakers (1.5” diameter) with a single 4.6” woofer. The oval design promises 360° bass rich portable sound that's surprisingly big for its size. The output can be cranked up to stated 94 dB, about the loudness of a gasoline lawnmower. I always use ear plugs for noise protection when mowing the lawn, so I didn’t test the maximum volume of the Epicboom, but took their word for it.You can pair two EpicBoom speakers for stereo. In the UE Boom app, “Party Up” chains up to a total of 150 compatible speakers in an array, so that all corners of the setup hear the same output. The speakers so enabled include Epicboom, Boom, Boom 2, Boom 3, Megaboom, Megaboom 3, and Hyperboom speakers. The Wonderboom is absent from this list.Battery life is claimed of up to 17 hours of playtime, with a USB-C charging port that has a water-tight flap sealing it off when not plugged in.A series of pre-sets for tonal menus were easily switched via the app, to vary for the spectrum desired. The pre-sets were named as : “Signature” (which was a flat curve, not boosting or dampening any portion of the spectrum), spoken/podcast, gaming/movie soundtrack (suggesting to me that this could be a TV soundbar surrogate), Bass Boost, and Deep Relaxation mode. The speaker has “Adaptive Equalization” which claims to sense and match changes in the setting’s acoustics, so that the output remains similar if you move from one room to another. In conclusion, I felt this was a very fine speaker. A pair would nicely create a fine soundbar, and not need a separate subwoofer given its bass output. The options for outdoor and party time music will be perhaps its greatest feat. The only downside, compared to non-portable speakers that I currently own and use, is the lack of WiFi and voice control. Since this is Bluetooth only, there is no ability for voice assistants, searches, etc. The Epicboom must use some microphone capacities to automatically adjust the equalization to the room’s acoustics, but not to process or respond to speech commands. What it lacks in that facility, it makes up for in music fidelity, output, durability, battery life, and portability.

Outstanding Sound Quality

The full story behind Ultimate Ears, from their beginnings in 1995 to today, I found very interesting. The full story behind Ultimate Ears, from their beginnings in 1995 to today, I found very interesting. Considering their origins with the professional side of the music industry and long history with musicians, I suspect they might know a thing or two about what it takes to make great sounding music reproduction devices. And I was right. Not only does their EPICBOOM speaker sound wonderful with full, rich bass, but it does not sound muddy or muffled and also has great mid and high frequency reproduction that makes listening to it at loud, room-filling, distortion-free levels very pleasurable. The speaker contains two 1.7” mid and high frequency drivers, and one 4.6” woofer that supply sound 360 degrees around, at 94 decibels maximum. The “Outdoor Boost” button gives an additional one decibel (95 dB total), which at first doesn't seem like much, but does result in a noticeable increase in oomph. The accompanying phone app has five built-in equalization curves (one being “flat”) in addition to being able to create custom frequency curves with 5 sliders and then name and save them for future use. The app also has a “Party Up” feature which lets you connect to other Ultimate Ears brand wireless speakers that may show up to your gathering. The app also allows remote control of powering the speaker on and off, and gives you access to your playlists on Amazon Music, Apple Music (iOS only), and Spotify (Android only).Since the EPICBOOM is designed for the party environment, it has an IP67 rating which according to the manufacturer will allow this speaker to “get submerged in water for 30 minutes” and survive drops of up to 3 feet. I’m not sure how you can submerge it as the web site shows it floating in a swimming pool and states that it does float in water, which should make this an ideal sound source for use on a boat. I’m not sure who buys a $350 speaker and tosses it in the water, but it is nice to know that it should withstand accidental splashes and clumsy handling. The speaker’s controls are on the top, under a rubberized panel with some of the symbols debossed in the rubber. The symbols are not highlighted in a different color, or backlit thus making them a little hard to see depending on the ambient lighting. The power button does light up once the unit is turned on. The up and down volume controls are a very large "+" and "-" on the front panel in a vibrant, contrasting color, making them easy to see and use. These two buttons do require a bit of force to actuate them, meaning you have to hold onto the speaker and you can’t simply touch them for adjustments - the force required will push the speaker over if you don’t steady it. There is also what looks like a small hole on the top panel which at first looks like a microphone, but the EPICBOOM does not offer the ability to make or receive a phone call. The USB-C charging port is on the backside of the speaker, at the bottom edge and is covered by small rubber flap. The included charging cable is USB-C on each end and the manufacturer recommends using a charging adapter (not included) with at least 15 watts of output. The EPICBOOM has a very nice build quality, using materials that are pleasant to touch and it appears substantial and durable enough to survive a fair amount of mistreatment. The web site describes the content of the speaker that is made from recycled materials and the in-box documentation shows how to remove the lithium-ion battery for recycling at the end of its life. At present the web site does not show the availability to purchase a replacement battery. There is a carrying strap attached to the back of the speaker that will also allow it to be hung up, but it is not something you would want to carry around for long as it weighs over four pounds. We have had a few Bluetooth speakers in our household, and I must say, the EPICBOOM is quite handily the best sounding of them all, without a doubt. The other thing I learned is I need to research things I may not be familiar with, as I had originally assumed Ultimate Ears was just a new brand name being marketed by Logitech…once I read the company’s story, boy was I wrong.

Punches above its weight in the BT speaker market
17 September 2023

I'm familiar with the "Ultimate Ears" brand as I owned the UE 9000 headphones in the past. They were amazing until I managed to break the headband. To this day, I miss the sound signature of those headphones. The EPICBOOM, while obviously not headphones, is a worth entrant that reminds me of the UE 9000's. Sound quality is the foundation of the Ultimate Ears brand, which is why Logitech bought them long ago, but I digress. This speaker is big and packs a bigger punch! The sound doesn't have any trouble filling the garage or deck as it has an authoritative presence when cranked up. The "outdoor" button adds even more body and fullness to the sound, making it an ideal speaker for a small gathering or BBQ. It's water-resistance, while not tested by me, promises to continue the rugged outdoor use reputation built by the line of Boom speakers.I would have no concerns if it fell into the pool or got stuck in the rain. It's water resistance is class-leading and confidence-inspiring.In summary, the EPICBOOM is, well, pretty epic. I docked one star because at the MSRP of $349, it's competing in a tough premium portable speaker market, which includes the top-tier Sonos Move. The Sonos has an even more authoritative sound profile, but in all fairness is more intended for indoors and non-rugged outdoor use.If I had to do it all over again, I would still purchase this, given the overall feature-set, but wish the sound was on the same level as the Sonos. But for a rugged speaker that can be used in any environment, the EPICBOOM lives up to it's name.

Rugged & Powerful

Ultimate Ears (UE) lives up to it`s namesake with the epicboom as it is most certainly a top notch portable speaker for listening. I go back and forth between my Sonos and UE products and for portability I always find myself reaching for my various boom products due to their ruggedness to which the epicboom fits that perfect niche for a larger outdoor speaker that is also portable at the same time.First, right out of the box the epicboom is similar in build quality and material to any other ultimate ears portable speaker you have previously used from the fabric mesh to the rubber base that provides both drop projection, but also grip when being placed on various surfaces. I do like the carrying strap they have added as it has come in handy from a portability standpoint and the fact that it has a magnet on the end to prevent it from flapping around is a subtle touch.Onto the actual performance of the speaker though. This thing really puts out!! I had high hopes coming from the Sonos Move and the epicboom fits its name and really puts out the sound. The bass seems to be much punchier with the epicboom than traditional UE speakers without sacrificing clarity and the 360 sound is such a great facet of these speakers. Additionally, the outdoor boost button is a great feature as I`m not sure exactly how UE did it, but the sound seems to radiate further out when this feature is toggled on. Then the ability to "PartyUp" and connect with my other UE speakers was such a great addition to the UE lineup that this speaker only helps expand on it as having three UE speakers setup around the house outside all playing the same thing in sync is such a great feature. Two other things I have to touch on are the battery life as the advertised 17 hours actually does appear to hold true and the addition of the usb-c charging versus the old micro-usb charging standard is a huge plus! Also, the ruggedness and water proof elements really set this apart from the Sonos Move in my opinion as I have taken this out on the lake multiple times and have zero worries about accidently dropping it in the water or dropping it on the boat and breaking it as you can tell UE has taken these facets into great detail, as with their entire lineup of speakers.Overall, I really don`t know what else you could ask for in a bluetooth speaker that hasn`t been included here. From the aesthetics and build quality to the performance and features everything is top notch and eloquently merged together with this speaker. I would definitely recommend this portable bluetooth speaker for nearly every use case.
