I'm right-handed and hold the pen low (closer to the tip) using with a lateral tripod grip, so the body of this pen works well for me. It has a satisfying click too. However, the tip itself is quite scratchy compared to other Signos like the UM-151. The major benefit of this pen is that you can easily swap in alternative refills (Sarasa, Jetstream, or EnerGel).

An excellent pen. I find the pen body very comfortable to use, and the color is practical but unique. This is quickly becoming my go-to pen. When compared to my other favorite gel pen, the Pilot G-2 in the same size, I find that the Uni-ball Signo has slightly more feedback, and the Pilot G-2 is wetter and a tiny bit smoother. As a result, I use my Pilot for notes, where I want to write very quickly and don't care about neatness, and I use the Uni-ball Signo for filling out forms and writing cards - times when handwriting neatness is very important. And I prefer the actual pen of the Uni-ball Signo RT1 UMN-155 over the Pilot G-2. I think it's both more comfortable to use, and prettier to look at.I also own the blue-black not-retractable version (the Uni-ball Signo ...Ā MoreAn excellent pen. I think the ink formula is slightly different (presumably so it will work in a retractable model) and I actually prefer the retractable ink - I find it to be wetter and slightly darker (although maybe it is simply more saturated).I hope Uni-ball Signo releases retractable versions of all the other off black colors, particularly Bordeaux Black, Lavender Black, and Green Black. I would buy them in a heart beat, even though I already own the traditional Gel pen version. I like the retractable version that much.

I love how the grip section goes right down to the tip, my grip tends to be very far down and this pen is comfortable there. This has become my most-used pen, with a Jetstream cartridge installed. Super basic but you can't go wrong with it. The deep-carry style clip is also nice, so there's very little pen sticking out of any pocket or pen loop it's in.

The Uni-ball Signo RT1 is an excellent gel pen, which replaced previous RT. I have difficult time understanding why Uni-ball offers two almost identical models, the other one being Signo 307 (which replaced model 207). Both RT1 and 307 are pigment water based gel pens offering acid-free and fade resistant inks archival quality inks. Both RT1 and 307 are similarly priced, however the 307 ink formulation is slightly different as it includes cellulose nanofiber. In practical use however I could see no difference - both pens are skip free, do not railroad (as is expected for a good 0.5mm gel ink pen), and both lay down on paper beautiful, deep black lines. In practical use however I could see no difference - both pens are skip free, do not railroad (as is expected for a good 0.5mm gel ink pen), and both lay down on paper beautiful, deep black lines. There is very slight smudging of fresh letters, so depending on speed of writing and pen holding technique they may not be the best choice for left handed use. However after a few seconds the letters are completely touch, water and most other liquids resistant. Both RT1 and 307 refills are mechanically identical, so one can mix and match. The body of the RT1 is a bit translucent, so when you place it against a strong light source you can see how much ink is left. The cone, body and the clip are all plastic, making the pen light. The bottom part of the pen is made from rubber-like material which is comfortable to hold - not too soft, not too hard, and does not attract the dust or dirt. The clip however is not the best design: it is all plastic, does not look to be very strong, so if you want to keep the pen securely in your pocket look for a stronger clip design (like Zebra Sarasa or Pilot Juice series with proper metal springs). When you extend the refill to write the mechanism rattles if you shake the pen (but not when you write) - this normal with most (but not all) pens. The RT1 refill has what Uni-ball calls āthe edgeless rounded tipā - maybe not completely edgeless, but it reduces friction against the paper a bit. Depending on paper used (try Rhodia) it provides some feedback, without being excessively scratchy. It comes with 0.28mm, 0.38mm and 0.5mm (as far as I know no 0.7mm) and in different ink/body colours. I find 0.5mm to be ājust rightā. The range of colours is not as extensive as some other lines and brands, but pretty good nevertheless.
I bought the Black in the 0.28 and 0.38 mm tips after trying the 0.5 mm one, which laid down too much ink for my writing style. These smaller tips were perfect for smaller spaces; even if they are tiny, they both have vibrant and rich ink that looks black, not grey. The tips are not scratchy, but I do feel the texture of the paper under them; if I write with smooth paper, the pens are very smooth. They are comfortable to hold, and I like the click mechanism. I find the 0.38 mm RT1 smoother than the same-sized Signo DX. Sometimes, I write with these pens on larger ruling just because I like them so much, even if thereās need to go that thin. Even so, the text remains readable and doesnāt look like a spiderās web!
I love my Uni-ball Signo RT1 UMN-155 Gel Pen! I bought it as a test to see if I would like it. I really didn't think I would (in fact I kept deleting it from my cart and adding it back until I finally decided to just give in and try it), but it turns out to now be one of my favorite pens! I love the way it feels in my hand as I write. The ink flows smoothly. The rubber grip is comfortable. And I love the ease of clicking to extend/retract the tip. This pen is definitely on my list to buy again!
This is my first Uni-Ball pen. Love the ink color, a very dark blue. I sometimes prefer a .7 over a .5 tip, but this one is very smooth to write with and didn't feel too fine. I even like the pen body, very nice translucent dark blue with a rubber grip. I'll definitely be refilling this one when it runs out.
This is my favorite pen for note taking. This is the pen I won't lend to anyone because I like it that much. It writes with a fine line that is perfect for my small planner. I tend to sketch and doodle with it as well and the stroke is always predictable and nicely pigmented. The retraction has a nice satisfying click and a slightly rubbery grip that I like.
I love a good extra-fine point. Unfortunately I haven't found one that was retractable that felt comfortable in my hand... Until this one. I enjoy this brand of pen. They write smoothly and dry fairly quickly, so I decided to give this one a chance. I love it. I love the way it feels in my hand, I love how smoothly it writes and blue-black is my go-to for everyday use. Fantastic pen.
The Uni-ball Signo RT1 0.38mm pens have become my new everyday favorite! I have cubital tunnel and slight tendinitis in my left hand, and I have pretty small hands, so I have struggled to find a pen that I can write comfortably with for more than 10 minutes. These are it!!! Many pens are either too long, too thick/thin, or too heavy for me (like the Dr.Grip that many people have good luck with). These pens are just heavy enough, fit nicely in my hand without the "death grip" and these pens glide SUPER smooth for me. I definitely was not expecting such smooth writing with my first 0.38mm pen. With the grip being so comfortable and down close the tip, as well as Uni-ball's fabulous gel ink, I can take observations, notes, and do work without constant hand cramps. ...Ā MoreThe Uni-ball Signo RT1 0.38mm pens have become my new everyday favorite!
