I love this radar, it works amazing. Best radar I have ever used and very easy to use. There is mute memory on it so if you consistently mute it from going off at certain places it will remember. It also looks good in the car. I’ve had it for a year now and I have never had any problems with using it. You can easily adjust the volume and it’s one of my favorite purchases. Definitely recommend if you’re looking into radars and worth the price rather than cheaping out on other options.

This radar detector came in handy during my recent cross country road trip. Prior to purchasing this it had been quite a few years since I'd regularly run a radar detector so I had to do a good amount of research to figure out a good one in today's market. Everywhere I looked online listed this as either their number one or ranked it near the top, only below other ones that were in a much higher price bracket. The arguments made for why it deserved that number one spot were well thought out so I was sold, I bought the detector and I also bought the hardwire install kit from Uniden.(For the hardwire- I stole the power from a cigarette lighter that shut off with the car, ran the mute button up through the dash to where I had an unused hole, and ran the cord for the ... MoreThis radar detector came in handy during my recent cross country road trip. The arguments made for why it deserved that number one spot were well thought out so I was sold, I bought the detector and I also bought the hardwire install kit from Uniden.(For the hardwire- I stole the power from a cigarette lighter that shut off with the car, ran the mute button up through the dash to where I had an unused hole, and ran the cord for the radar detector tucked in along the edge of my dash trim until I came out at a good spot for the plug to exit onto my dashboard. All in all, it was probably one of the easier installs I've ever done with an aftermarket piece to any car, ever.)I'll be honest, on day one of my trip, I didn't love it. It was annoying. I had so many false alerts and even though I wasn't speeding I still found myself having that knee-jerk reaction of "oh shoot" and braking or letting off the gas and slowing down that way. I would have hated to be driving behind me... luckily there wasn't a lot of traffic and no one really right behind me for the most part, but still. I tried fiddling with the settings some as I stopped for gas and food but felt like there were too many options and too much that I didn’t understand. The book had been no help, it was like reading a textbook for a subject you knew next to nothing about. I gave up and turned the volume down and the radio up. That defeated the point of having it but it was so noisy and so annoying. When I stopped that first night I did a little more reading online and found some material on what different settings meant and what settings were recommended based on everything from what parts of the country you drove in to what type of driving you primarily did. Once everything was explained in layman's terms I was able to make my own decisions on what settings to program. I've since made a few tweaks as I've driven with it but for the most part once I understood it all I was able to shut off a lot of the excess noises and narrow down the important alarms. You can customize everything on this radar detector from the alarms that go off, to the tone of said alarms, to the color of the screen, what said screen shows normally, how bright the screen is and even have it dim at a set time of the day/night. You can program it to not alarm when you are driving below a certain speed or to not alarm for red light cameras above a certain speed, like if you are on the interstate passing above surface streets. There are so many settings with so many options. So much of it meant so little to me. The best advice I can give with this purchase is to check out https://www.vortexradar.com/2017/06/how-to-program-and-set-up-your-uniden-r1-and-r3/ and do a little reading up of your own until you have a basic understanding of the multitude of choices you're presented with.

It’s saved me countless times. But the mute memory feature is frustrating. Pressing the mute button then pressing it again adds a band to your mute memory. But pressing the mute button twice on an already muted band will delete all of your mute memory. I’ve accidentally deleted my mute memory countless times due to a falls positive band reading which is super frustrating.

I ordered this for my sons car, then moved it to mine to continue setup and testing. I have a V1 gen 1 in my car and my wife has a V1 gen 2 in hers.I’ll be returning this in the next few days and just order a V1 gen 2 for my car and moving the old one to my son’s.I’m in an area where I can’t disable K or X bands… X really isn’t the issue. The K band is absolutely unusable on this. On 100% K, I get an alarm every 30 seconds, new car or old car, everywhere I go around our farm lands. I reduce the sensitivity to 60% and it gets rid of most alarms, but still an occasional 24.079 K band. Every automated shopping door alarms it. Turning K to narrow helps. When driving through small towns where houses are very close to the road, non stop K alarms and occasional X alarms.Neither of our V1’s do any of this. Gen 1 never false alarms, but probably misses a handful of cop radar. The Gen 2 alarms if you pull up to one specific Dollar General in our area, and used to alarm in our downtown in one spot, until V1 put out their most recent update. The R3 update process is too cumbersome, it’s way too chatty, and just seems like the old 90’s detectors that just constantly alarm. The GPS thing is really just a gimmick and has zero use if you’re driving new areas alot. With proper support and updates, these detectors are much more effective and falses go away. Really, save up $520 and order a V1.

Im not a speeder... or a racecar driver but I will hint that this has saved me a few times! Its range and customizability is amazing especially for the price! This is perfect for the speed racers and the regular drivers that just want a little reminder when there is a police in the area or using a radar gun. Sometimes it can be easy to accidently go a little to fast when on long road trips so when this goes off its a awesome reminder to slow down. So many options and I love that i can switch to just KA Band and not get every alert while driving it has been 100% accurate for me living in california.

First off radar detector not cop detector lol some people get that confused. I have used. Cheap cobra ones less then 100$ they always go off for blind spot, people’s garage doors. This one filters that out very well. City most of these are hit and miss. High way mode and traveling I have picked up highway patrol 3-4 miles away. Almost installs a sense of false security haha. I use it everyday. No issues. Has a gps built in to store spots that have radar signs so it doesn’t go off. Get one read how it works and what to look for. Learn it’s habits and you will be surprised. People tell you these don’t work lol they are wrong. You still blow past a cop without radar on or do something stupid it’s not gonna save you. 17 December 2023

I've had this radar detector for quite some time now and after plenty of use, I have decided that it's entirely better than any one of my friends' Radar detectors. It picks up on everything and it's very accurate as well. It has many features as well as customizable options. You can change the color of the display, choose what you want on it as well, Change the clock to a compass instead, or show your frequencies, dim the backlight, or even mark a location (for regular speed traps) utilizing its built-in GPS. I've recommended this product to a few of my friends and so far whoever has gotten it continues to recommend it. It's built well and has a very secure suction cup. It doesn't droop from your dash or look cheap in any way. Great product overall.

19 May 2024

Very happy with the radar detector, but it has some scratches on the parts where it detects radars. I just hope the scratches won't affect its work. The range is insane and it detects some radars that my Cobra detector doesn't, such as red light radars on intersections. There'a s a lot of options, which you can set up not only by pressing the buttons on it, but also by connecting it to your PC. And when you connect it to your PC you can download the latest firmware and GPS database of false alarm places.

I wanted a radar detector that could pick up on primarily KA band + Laser, since K band is hardly used where I live and work. I also didn't want to spend more than $250. But I kept reading reviews saying that the R3 is the best bang-for-the-buck and is definitely worth the extra $50-75 compared to name-brand budget detectors.I'll admit, for the first week or two, I was skeptical. LOTS of K band false alerts, especially around town. It turns out that the R3 needs a lot of its settings to be fine-tuned. A must-use feature is its Mute Memory, which uses GPS to auto-mute things like automatic door openers at grocery stores and car washes.I still get very consistent false alerts from driving near newer Mazda CX-5 SUVs, likely due to that vehicle's dual-frequency BSM ... MoreI wanted a radar detector that could pick up on primarily KA band + Laser, since K band is hardly used where I live and work. I'm still trying to find a good combination of settings to reduce those false alerts. So, why the 5 stars? Because all of the fine-tuning is absolutely worth it. My Uniden R3 has picked up on both Laser and KA band flawlessly. Not a single false alert when either of those alerts go off. Not only that, but I've had my R3 has pick up on KA band over 3 miles away! I was astounded. Are there better detectors out there? Sure. But the Uniden R3 isn't supposed to be the best. It's the best bang-for-the-buck. Nothing else comes close.

A great detector that is not only worth the money... it won't send you to the "poor farm" for buying it either. Depending upon terrain and weather conditions, the detection range could easily be several miles. Plenty of time to check and adjust your speed! Its operation, display, and detection features can be customized to your liking. Another great feature is that it can be updated via your PC easily WITHOUT having to send it away and wait forever for it to be sent back. You can also purchase a "hardwire" kit to power it directly from the fuse block and there are several different mounting solutions available for it too! Mainly though... it does what it's supposed to do, and it does it VERY well with minimal false alerts.
