Sometimes a new-or in my case, a re-discovered tool, can spark the imagination. While I have used graduated filters in the past, it was mostly when I primarily shot with film and my lenses were generally all prime with 52mm diameter threaded filter mounts. Since migrating to mostly digital capture and using mostly zoom lenses with a 77mm diameter mount, I've been using post production processing to handle extreme variations between shadow/highlight values. I first added a GOBE ND filter a few years ago and have been happy with it, so decided it was time to also add this 77mm graduated filter to the mix. Am delighted thus far as it enables in-camera image modification to reduce extreme shadow/highlight ratios when shooting land/sea/cityscapes at sunrise or sunset. ... MoreSometimes a new-or in my case, a re-discovered tool, can spark the imagination. This works exactly as it should. Recently test drove it on our voyage through Europe and it made all of my daytime footage pop. No details are lost- old architecture with clouds in the sky in the background sing. A no brainer that is worth every penny. Plus if you register on their site they plant trees for you. Win!

What a dream. This filter saves me so much time editing my photos. I've been using it to balance the highlights of the sky with the darker foreground when shooting landscapes – sometimes of the ocean sometimes in the hills. I can capture more detail in the shadows and still get the details of the clouds in the sky too.

This is my 3rd Urth filter purchase. I was pleased to discover a few improvements have been made since my last VND purchase, and I was really happy with the last ones! Most notably a hard stop on the rotation so you can't accidentally go past the min or max setting. It might just be the different brand lens I'm using it on (Sigma vs Sony) but it seems the lens cap fits a lot better to this new filter compared to my other ones.Super smooth rotation, just plain easy to use. 10 thumbs up!!
I bought this filter and it's pure magic ! Glass quality is insane, build is perfection. Well, it's the perfect filter for me. High quality glass for high quality image. Honestly, I'm going to buy it again for my other lens without a doubt ! URTH, you rock !
Good construction, fits well to UV+ filter, but a little shallow on the turning ring. Not a problem if you make sure you clip your lens cover properly.A little bit heavy with a 24mm+ lens but above 35mm more than O.K.
I've been a fan of Urth products for a couple of years. I wanted a Grad ND filter and this one fit the bill. It works well and the soft edge makes it very useful. Also, having it be able to turn so that the ND part can be moved from top to bottom and everywhere in between is a big plus.
Despite having a good set of square holders and filters, I’ve evolved into justthrowing one or two round filters into my camera bag. Those two are usuallya poloriser and a solid ND. I bought this, potentially restricted filter as anexperiment and have been very presently surprised. It rotates so is usable forlandscapes and portraits!
This product does exactly what it says on the description. Variable ND filter, which allowed me to achieve the effect I wanted with very little fuss. I bought the 2Peak version of this, due to the recommendation that the 1Peak version won't work as well on telephoto lenses. I've had no issues with this on my telephoto (though I never tried the single peak, so I can't confirm that it does cause problems). It's a nice, solid piece of kit with excellent smooth rotation.
Very pleased for what I got at this price! I like the fact that there are different peaks at different prices. I opted to go with the Plus+ version because of the coatings and I thought the shorter stop range would produce better results overall. Kudos for planting trees and for the packaging design!

Urth Soft Grad ND8 Lens Filter Plus+, 40.5mm
Urth Soft Graduated ND8 Lens Filter (Plus+) The Soft Graduated ND8 Lens Filter Plus+ from Urth provides a fixed 3 f-stop light reduction from half your image for balanced exposure and better dynamic range in soft graduated light conditions. By blocking 3 f-stops of light from half the image, you can balance your exposure when the foreground is darker than the background - such as shooting landscapes in the mountains. The soft graduation creates a natural blending of light. The Plus+ range features 20-layers of nano-coating providing easier cleaning and better protection against water, oil, and scratches. These layers also provide a higher maximum light transmission and a more consistent transmission curve for truer light reduction. The filter is double-threaded for stacking filters or using screw-mount lens caps. The B270 Schott optical glass is coated with a 20-layer nano-coating for truer light transmittance, better protection, and easier cleaning. This consciously designed ultra-slim rim avoids vignetting and its durable magnalium is guaranteed for life.
