Recently I have been loving collecting fragrances. Every time I order something from Sephora I try to get at least 1 fragrance sample, and I order from there a lot (haha!). With my last purchase I received a sample of Valentino's Born in Roma. The first time that I smelled this perfume, I didn't like it at ALL...but then it kind of grew on me. The more I smelled it, the more i liked it. I'm by no means any kind of perfume expert, and I'm having trouble identifying notes, but there's a subtle sweetness there that I really like. It belongs to the floral fragrance family and is the warm floral fragrance type. The key notes are: blackcurrant, jasmine, grandiflorum, and bourbon vanilla. This is a warm floral fragrance inspired by Roman street style and edgy haute couture. A trio of jasmine flowers and sparkling blackcurrant fuse with warm vanilla and rich woods to create a scent that captures the essence of modern femininity. The values and personality of the iconic haute couture fashion house come to life through this experiential floral perfume for women. The sweet floral women's fragrance held within the studded bottle beautifully contrasts with the edgy design inspired by Roman architecture. This isn't a fragrance that I would have typically picked for myself, but I'm really glad that I have it. I definitely recommend it, and am going to enjoy wearing it!

I truly do not get the hype or the positive reviews for this one... I'm honestly baffled. I'm not sure what it is, but the floral notes at onset are overpowering and quite simply, noxious. The dry-down is definitely better with more vanilla coming through (with a note of woodiness), but still not "expensive"-smelling, nor the density and complexity of what I expect of a fragrance, most especially not of a high-end one. The Coral Fantasy is better in my opinion as it is less noxiously floral and better balanced with the kiwi and musk, but still definitely not a homerun. I’ve seen this particular variation from the Born in Roma fragrance collection advertised in many magazines and Ulta flyers, and had always loved how it smelled from the scented insert. I also happen to love coral as a color - it is truly a gorgeous, delicate yet powerful hue that seems reflective of an ethereal Valentino dress. When not around tons of other fragrances, this perfume is STRONG. It’s definitely a 2-3 sprays MAX perfume. Anything more than that and I would wind up sneezing (which is where the loss of a star comes from). As far as the scent it’s vanilla-y, but not sweet like a cupcake vanilla. More of a spicy vanilla. It kept reminding me of something you might smell in a smoky jazz club or going to see a live play at a fancy theater. To me, it’s more of a date night perfume and not an every day perfume. As far as staying power, I had to reapply on longer days (10-16 hours), but I could definitely still smell it over halfway through the day. OVERALL - I would probably keep a travel size spray in my collection, but probably wouldn’t buy the full size again.

Grown-Up Warm Vanilla

I received a full-sized bottle of Valentino Donna Born in Roma Intense eau de parfum complimentary for testing purposes and in exchange for my honest review. I have not experienced the original Born in Roma perfume, but this iteration is supposed to amplify the vanilla aspect of the original, in addition to amber and jasmine notes. This is not a “must-have” vanilla scent in my opinion as a vanilla-lover, but it is a deeper and warmer type of vanilla if you’re looking for something more developed and nuanced. I don’t pick up much on the floral notes, but perhaps that’s because this is a cold (January/February) time of year that I’ve been wearing it. SO thankful to have received this complimentary sample from Influenster to test out. The first spritz was such a pleasant surprise! I was expecting a strong chemical/alcohol smell until it aired out a bit, but it was great from the get go! It did have a rather strong "powdery" scent to it, but I could certainly smell the warm vanilla notes to it (forgive me - I am a true novice when it comes to perfume and terminology so I'll do my best here). I only did one spray to my right wrist and dabbed onto my other wrist as well as behind my ears. After about about 30 minutes, the powdery smell became lighter and a muffled floral scent was starting to present itself. This is considered to be a warm floral fragrance with notes of jasmine, and it’s also heavy on warm gourmand notes of vanilla as well. I typically gravitate towards vanilla and wood notes, with some florals thrown in here and there, and this really just fits my fragrance personality perfectly. Sometimes I like to categorize my perfumes by what season I’ll wear them during, but this particular one I feel will work for me year round. New holy grail - worth every penny

I would BATHE in this perfume if I could. At first it has an intense candy like smell which I thought would stick around and was actually not my favorite. It's extremely strong when you first spray it on, but settles very nicely while maintaining the integrity of the scent. It's very slightly musky, warm, and sexy sweet (but not too sweet) in all of the right ways. This was a blind purchase based off of its high reviews and I've never been happier with a perfume. It's knocking down all of my past favorites and taking the number one spot. Totally agree with all previous reviews of how amazing this perfume is and it is definitely better than most I've tried - even my YSL black opium which I am pretty loyal to. That may just be me getting old and getting sticker shock with standard inflation. I can say with 100% certainty, I would not spend $156 on this or even $85 for the smallest bottle. I have to start this off by saying that I fell in love with this perfume. I always love my perfumes to be either elegant, soft, and delicate. This one is definitely something different for me and that's not a bad thing at all. I usually tend to go for a floral scent with nothing Intense or with vanilla in it . This one doesn't have anything that would just kill my senses but I can say I definitely smelled ambery and vanilla notes in it. I never thought that I would enjoy a fragrance with these type of notes in it but this definitely had surprised me. Which is something to me because I don't usually go out of my way to have a perfume always available to me.
