Mine arrived with the defect. It appears to be a known issue (confirmed by Varia Brewing official support), and there are five reports online of the same problem. The grinder cannot be turned off. When off, it turns itself on for a couple of seconds and then off again with a clicking relay sound. This continues forever unless unplugged. Now I have to go through the lengthy replacement process. It's likely a good grinder, but the quality control from the factory is concerning. If they didn't check for such a basic problem before shipping, how can you be sure that it doesn't have other issues like burrs misalignment or improperly set zero point?

This grinder is heavy and comes in a high quality resin carry case. One issue I've noticed so far is greater than expected tolerance with the hopper thread. This becomes evident when adjusting coarseness or using the bellows as some hopper movement can be seen and felt. According to AB support, this is expected and could possibly be mitigated in the future with taller burr springs. I did expect more precision given the price of this machine and in comparison to the extremely low tolerance I've experienced with the thread on similarly priced flat burr Mazzer grinders. Excellent support from AB around this issue with the promise to supply me with taller springs when they become available. The spring loaded retention knocker is cute but a bit gimmicky to use as there ... MoreThis grinder is heavy and comes in a high quality resin carry case. There is some retention (~0.5g) at lower rpms, but should supposedly improve once the burrs are sufficiently seasoned.I'm yet to experiment with different burrs, but I'm happy knowing this machine supports future exploration and there's no upgrade-itis.4/5

The Varia VS6 is an absolute WEAPON. From the second I unboxed it, I knew this bad boy meant business. It’s packed tighter than my suitcase after a holiday and comes with a slick carry case, so there is no chance of damage—just awesomeness. This thing is a GRIND GOD. It’s so fast and quiet, I wouldn’t be surprised if it offered to take my coffee order next! Consistent, precise and an absolute joy to use—I’m hooked.

I wanted a grinder that would allow single espresso grinds so I could fine tune the grind size s well as use the same machine for regular and decaf espresso. The build quality is top notch! Grind is very repeatable. There is very little residual coffee left in the machine. Not a fast grinder, but that’s not important to me. I’m only now getting to the point where the burrs are worn in so I expect the consistence to improve even further. It comes with a surprisingly robust travel case. Great grinder if you are fussy about your espresso!
I have had a sunbeam conical grinder for the past 7 years. I upgraded to the Varia V6 and wholly, the instant improvement in coffee quality was something I did not expect. The grind produces a pour that you could set your clock to. Varia claim that the V6 has no waste and they are spot on. I love this machine and Alternative brewing have never been anything but amazing in their service. I will keep coming back again and again.
I received a brand new grinder with an electronic clicking noise making it not suitable to use . The clicking noise start as soon as I plug it for the very first time. No replacement parts are available so I have to return it for replacement. It’s disappointing .
Love the build quality, the added tools and the different burr options.I am wondering why after many coffees over 3 weeks I add 20g and receive only 19.4 or.19.5g. With the bellows I can recover most of it which leads to another problem that it is easy to alter the grind settings after using the bellows. Altering the settings is a little too easy.Another problem is the power cable is a little short and the knocker is a tad gimmicky. Also I put the brush up the shute and received a lot of grounds, probably my missing coffee.I love the coffee itself.
The Varia VS6 has given me the ability to finely adjust and dial in my grind in ways that my old grinder (Breville Smart Pro) only dreamt of. I have been able to prepare both pour overs, and espresso with out variation. My only critique would be the size of the font on the dial, 15 years ago this would not have been an issue.
I was very quickly impressed by this grinder! I found it a significant upgrade from my previous grinders (Baratza Sette, Timemore Sculptor) with espresso coffees tasting fantastic even without much burr seasoning. I enjoy the workflow of the grinder and the fact burrs are interchangeable without any requirement for alignment is very appealing. I’ll be keen to try some different burrs down the track. And the sturdy travel case is very sexy and an awesome perk!
Took a chance on a new grinder company since it had the specs i wanted and i figured if WLL was behind it, then it must be good. It arrived last friday. I pulled 12 shots and it died. It happens - I got a bad one. I called WLL saturday and was told a supervisor needs to approve a replacement and they aren't in until monday morning. It's now Thursday and crickets from WLL - how about " we're sorry we sent you a defective grinder, let us get you a new one asap!" I guess I'll be using the keurig for Thanksgiving.
