As a big fan of Dave Grohl, I was considering trying his Zildjian signature drumsticks. However, haven't exactly had the best of luck with Zildjian's sticks, but I have always had a good experience using Vater's. While I only bought one of these pairs of sticks and now prefer lighter 5Bs, I can say without a doubt that these sticks are a must have for hard hitters! If I ever do get around to playing acoustic drums again, I will definitely be buying this multipack! Vater is one of the only drum companies who hasn't raised their prices, and I have massive respect for them for that. Try these sticks playing In Bloom and My Hero. They were made for punk rock!

I have been using Vater Manhattan 7As for years now and before now I have never had any problems. I stopped by guitar center and stocked up on new sticks because as a drummer you can never have too many backups. Right off the bat one of the sticks in the first pair fractured in the first hour or so. I figured maybe it was just a defective stick but then one in the second pair did the same exact thing a few days later. Then today literally five minutes into playing another one did it (pictures below). I've never broken sticks in this pattern either and can not understand how it could of happened so quickly in the first place. Maybe I just received a defective bundle or something, but for about $30 I shouldn't go through them this badly.

Great sticks I play a lot every week. These sticks are durable and reliable, and they always feel good to play. All of the variations of 5b's are great the sugar maple sticks are perfect for recording. And the the power 5b's are amazing and versatile as well . I usually stick with the regular 5b perfect drum sticks in my opinion.

I've been searching for a drumstick that had a little extra reach. I initially opted for VF's Extreme 5A, but they left me wanting in terms of thickness and durability. On a recommendation, I tried the Vater 1A sticks and was convinced. Even though I'm still breaking a few sticks from time to time, they last much longer and have the perfect amount of reach and weight.
Great sticks! Durable, great weight, and Musician's Friend shipped them very quickly! I decided to order these because Nick D'virgillio, one of my favorite drummers, recommended the Vater brand and I thought I'd try them out!
They fit nicely in my hands with just the right balance and I have always really liked the round wood tip on my sticks. The only thing is that hickory has a lot of grooves and space in it and I am really fond of oak sticks. The weight is also ideal for what I use them for. All and all they are really well rounded sticks and I would recommend them and the price is a really great deal.
I have been using vater sticks, specifically this pack for years. Overall the experience has been positive. They come at a great price and most commonly hold up for many hours. But I do seem to find that with every other pack there are atleast two pairs that are either different timbre or just dead sticks that break after a few rimshots or minimal use. I have had one nightmare experience where I was playing a gig and pulled out a fresh pair right from the sleeve and within 12 measures it fractures from the taper to the tip leaving me a spear. I go to grab another pair only to have it happen again moments later. It was embarassing to say the least but that was the only time anything like that has occurred.
There's a lot that goes into making a drumstick: Tip, taper, length, shaft diameter, etc., but the one thing that matters most is how the stick feels in your hand. It should feel like a natural extension of your body. I've used a lot of different sticks in my 20 years as a drummer, but I can say without hesitation that Vater makes the best-feeling 5B out there! Even though it's a large-diameter stick normally used for rock music, it's still very responsive and versatile enough to be used in many musical styles. The taper is long enough to make the stick respond quickly, and the acorn tip sounds great on cymbals.
I use to play Vater 5B, cause I play heavy. I thought it was beefy enough for what I was playing. I have tried other Vater sticks but 5B was my go too for A but. Then when I was introduced to the power 5A I fell in love.The grip is just right not to big not too small. I love the balance with the extra length. I highly recommend these sticks.

In rotation with the other four models-as well as a couple pairs of Promark sticks-on an electronic drum kit, over a year later I hadn't used them enough to break a stick as I would generally reach for Vater Power 5B Acorn sticks having the same shape tip but being 1/2" longer and .005" thicker. I can nonetheless attest that Vater American Hickory 5B sticks have a nice feel and are well balanced.
