To start, the scissors are star of the show. The utility of a pair of scissors in this tiny form factor makes the Classic SD a great piece of everyday gear. And the various colors you can choose from are delightful. The blade is a bit on the small side and useful for simple, low-intensity cutting tasks. The issue with the blade is that the file rubs against it as the two tools deploy past each other, leaving scratches. I only had my new Classic for about 30 minutes before scratches began appearing on the blade. A lot of people have encountered this issue too, which anyone can affirm by checking other reviews and forums. This SAK would’ve been absolutely wonderful had it not been for this baffling and major design flaw.

I am a fan and collector of Victorinox Swiss Army Knives. Part of the pleasure of owning the Swiss Army Knife for me is how well made they are which can be felt in the opening and closing experience. Unfortunately the Classic SD falls short in this category due to the simple fact that the rough side of the nail file scrapes against the main blade. This makes the opening of the knife an unpleasant experience and also scratches the main blade. If you are a daily user this scraping is a constant reminder of this problem, and if you are a collector you end up damaging a knife you are trying to maintain in pristine condition. This detracts from the ownership experience which otherwise would be excellent as it is with other Victorinox Swiss Army Knives products that do ... MoreI am a fan and collector of Victorinox Swiss Army Knives. I believe a simple solution would be to turn the nail file around so that the rough side faces outward, but I assume there is a reason this has not been done. I also have a SwissLite model that has a similar configuration with the nail file right next to and facing the main blade but it does not suffer from this issue because there seems to be a very subtle bend engineered into the base of the main blade that keeps it away from the nail file surface when opening. This subtle bend is not present in the Classic SD. Anyway, I hope this review is helpful and it’s only purpose is to try and give constructive feedback for an otherwise outstanding product.

I have owned this knife for over 20 years. I don't recall how it came into my possession, but I think it may have been a promotional handout at some convention I attended. I have this knife attached to my keyring. It goes with me everywhere. I use the knife and scissors almost on a daily basis. Both screwdrivers have come in handy so many times I can't even begin to count. The scales fell off many years ago along with the toothpick and tweezers. Like the gentleman from an earlier review, I wish the Rambler was made in an alox version. I would gladly replace my current Rambler with the alox version as soon as it becomes available.

The trusted quality, made in Switzerland, Victorinox of this Alox Classic SD compact knife is made to be carried without worrying about space restrictions. This is resides in my "Alpaka" Zip Pouch Pro and it has all the functionality and is built with ruggedness in a diminutive package. With the Alox scales, this is small but mighty tool that comes with all the essentials albeit without the tweezers and toothpick. The absence of these items is not a deal breaker but, rather it only reinforces that this is still an iconic and premium sized knife. The red, sweet berry color is striking especially given the black design of the "Alpaka" pouch.
Sometimes, in order to justify the purchase of a swiss army knife, you need to use it. That means it has to be near you, best is in the pocket. Many of the larger models, can be too much for pocket carry, but a small knife like this on the keychain is actually not that bad, it does not make a huge difference. The knife is okay for opening packages. You can cut fingernails with the scissors, although I am not sure if you should. On the medium size knives I often feel, that the phillips screwdriver is too big, so if you need a smaller screwdriver, this knife could be a nice complementary for the bigger one. After a couple of years the scales starts to be a bit loose, bot I don't think they will fall off, but the tweezers are also a little bit loose, and I have already ... MoreSometimes, in order to justify the purchase of a swiss army knife, you need to use it. (Probably this is a manufacturing thing. Other models have the pen and flashlight, and those should be on the opposite site, but still.))I often meet with sunken smaller screws, that I cannot reach with these screwdrivers (although it is worse at the medium sized models). I think that the narrower part of the end of both screwdriver could be a little bit longer (0.5-1cm), that would be more useful.
I love this tiny knife. The blue color is so pretty. I always have a little Swiss Army Knife on my keychain. The knife is invaluable for opening boxes, I don't cut my nails with anything other than the wee scissors, and the tweezers work so well for splinters and stray hairs! Toothpicky tool is handy for various functions, as is the little screwdriver head. TSA binned my old one, so maybe the blue new one will remind me to leave it at home... or in checked luggage.
I have had a number of these exact models over the years and feel like part of me is missing if I don't have one in my pocket. TSA has claimed a couple when I forgot, I have given some to friends, and I have just plain lost a few. I usually buy them a couple at a time so I have a backup. That is how much I depend on them. Usually get Red but got Yellow this time to hopefully cut down the loss issue. I use the scissors and nail file almost daily. I never have to hunt for a knife to open a package. I still have my wisdom teeth with deep gum pockets around them, so the toothpick gets used a few times each day. They are small and unobtrusive in my pocket and I have never had one fail. The closest I have come to having a failure is having to sharpen the knife blade on a couple that managed to stay with me long enough to need that, and that is saying something because they stay sharp. For me, personally, they are perfect for my lifestyle and are a great value.
The Classic is a very popular choice for a reason, it's perfect for removing splinters and the pointy edge of the nail cleaner can do wonders for the times where a splinter winds up wedged under your finger nail. What really surprised me about this remarkable tool is how useful it is. I find myself using it throughout the day, every single day of the week. It's so useful, that I just ordered another tool from Victorinox that was influenced by this purchase.Do keep in mind that the soft cellidor material will get scratched when in the pocket with other tools.
A great looking knife and good set of features, the transparent brown (chocolate fudge classic SD) is a great colour with the see through effective, the scissors are very well engineered a mini set of the full size version. The only thing that is a bit of a problem is that the new nail file catches the main blade leaving small scratches ,I have a older SD in black with the original style of nail file which does not do this, not used as a present from a dear friend. But the old style isn't as good a file as the new which is much shaper and a better file, but does really need a bit more clearence between the blade and nail file, you can feel it catch, which is a real shame! ,I have 3 x classic SD and the alox all have blade scratches on the blade in the same place ... MoreA great looking knife and good set of features, the transparent brown (chocolate fudge classic SD) is a great colour with the see through effective, the scissors are very well engineered a mini set of the full size version. Still a great knife.
I have carried a escort in dark blue on my key ring for over 23 years, the years have taken their tole, the screwdriver tip has snapped, the scale emblem has fallen off.l lost one of the scale tools, easy to replace. The blade is still great and this has to be a testament to a real great knife. So with some reluctant a old frend is being retired, so looking for a replacement ,as the old knife got beaten up by keys and other key ring nick nacks a case of some type would be great your silicone case looked good.So I bought this orange knife(classic SD Mango Tango) as it comes with scissors a great upgrade and a longer toothpick, also I see the nail file /screwdriver has been changed with a new file surface and screwdriver bevel on the same size giving the back a flat ... MoreI have carried a escort in dark blue on my key ring for over 23 years, the years have taken their tole, the screwdriver tip has snapped, the scale emblem has fallen off.l lost one of the scale tools, easy to replace. Other wise a great knife.
