So, I think that Victorinox product managers just don't use Victorinox knifes by themselves...

In the US there's an upscale restaurant known for their Filet Mignon's. I frequent this restaurant, usually for lunch. On occasion, I take my family there for dinner. It just so happened during our last visit to this restaurant, my wife ordered a bottle of chardonnay to complement our steak. When the waiter brought the wine to our table, he took out his Waiter from his apron. I just happened to have my Waiter in my coat pocket. As he started to use his Waiter, my son quipped, "Dad, you have that knife, too!" So I showed the waiter my Waiter, and he compared the two. Of course they were identical, but his had slightly more use than mine. My waiter and I shared a moment of brotherhood that was made possible by our Waiter's. As it turns out, it really is a small world. Thank you, Victorinox, for another great SAK I recently added to my collection.

The un-necessarily strong LED light on this thing is a hazard. I accidentally pushed down on the light button while trying to grip the knife to clean it and refold the scissors. It took a few seconds to realize the light was shining in my eyes because it was daytime. I experienced a scary, LARGE floater and couldn't read characters on a monitor and my vision was clouded for about an hour. I called an eye doctor for an appointment. Later it cleared up but is still causing some blurriness. There's no need for a light this bright on such a lite-duty product as this. This unit is not meant for camping or way finding and the light only needs to be bright enough to light a keyhole or sign, i.e. focus on one spot. This unit is not meant for camping or way finding and the light only needs to be bright enough to light a keyhole or sign, i.e. focus on one spot. The reviewers who said the unit's bright light was useful for lighting up large areas should get a real flashlight, most of which have a different kind of switch, not a push button. Or, a safety sliding type switch could be used on this unit.2 stars because the other functions are good except the pen. The switch to push out the pen isn't that good but is the KIND of switch that the light should have.
I've had Ramblers for more than 20 years, and always have one on me. I though the addition of a Pen was a good idea and ordered one based on the 11 functions listed. Unfortunately when it came it only has 10 functions and a loose toothpick. It may as well say 20 functions and ship the other 10 as loose items! What's really annoying is I tred to make contact numerous times before I purchased to clarify this and there was no reply to emails or phone messages. Dont get me wrong it's still a good product, but not what I ordered. If they made one of these with a toothpick, light and pin all fitted it would be perfect
I bought a few Victorinox Swiss Army Knives in the Waiter model and was greatly impressed with the attention taken to the packaging. This ensured the boxes the knives came in were in good condition and this was good as I actually plan to gift some of these knives to family/friends. I own an older Wenger Swiss Army Knife in essentially the same design and so I know how useful these knives are. The knives seemed really sturdy and durable and will make good gifts! Thanks Gearshop!!
I would say the review summary title says it best: I use my Victorinox Manager every day. I carry it in that little coin pocket on my jeans. There is always at least one challenge daily that requires something as simple as a loose screw, something that needs cutting with either a blade or scissors, or perhaps I need a pen to write quickly write something down. Without the Manager, these little tasks would take way too much time to approach as I look for the right tool. Instead, with the Manager, it's only a matter of a few seconds, and my task it done. And of course, the product quality is excellent.
My husband likes this knife the best of all the Swiss army's she has! He loves the light and the pen and carries it wherever he goes. He says it’s the lightest one he has ….and that the others are much heavier to carry in his pocket. He LOVES it!!
The SAK of choice for the minimalist who still needs a knife blade longer than the one offered on the small-size 58mm models. Also consider the 2-layer Compact model, which adds scissors, a ballpoint pen, a mini screwdriver, and a multipurpose hook with a nail file on it. Alternatively, consider getting a mini screwdriver and adding it to your waiter model. The bottle opener works well as a flat-head screwdriver or for light-duty prying. Even if you don't use the corkscrew to open wine bottles, it is still useful as a way of storing a mini-screwdriver or for loosening knots and other tasks if you are creative. The major trade-offs that one makes on a model like this are the lack of tools like scissors and also having relatively few screwdriver capabilities. The major trade-offs that one makes on a model like this are the lack of tools like scissors and also having relatively few screwdriver capabilities. I feel that offering a Philips screwdriver version in place of the corkscrew of this model could be worthwhile (fun fact: in some cases the tweezers can be used to turn eyeglass screws in a pinch on models without the mini screwdriver).
As the title says, this knife has all the useful tools from 58mm range without any nonsense like "cuticle pusher" or "orange peeler" that only make the knife thicker and don't see any use. This is an excellent companion for any parent on the go. You can fix children's broken nails, cut off hangnails, unscrew battery covers on toys, easily slice through plastic toy packaging, pull out splinters, write notes on kids' foreheads. The disadvantage of this size is that the main blade is too small to be of any use beyond opening packages/cutting tape. That philips screwdriver is a real joy to use. To me, it's easily the most useful tool on this knife.Lastly, I don't care how long a tradition those plastic scales have, that material is plain rubbish. You can scratch those (handle)scales just by looking at them for too long. It took my knife 5 minutes to start looking like family heirloom handed down through 3 generations. Wood scratches it, other plastic scratches it, empty soft pocket scratches it, even the folded paper manual and box it comes in scratches it! I wouldn't expect this from a 5 euro chinese knockoff. That's why it only gets 4 stars.
