Had a 129 Pro duo that I left in a vehicle I just sold and put this A229 in my new truck. So, there was no learning curve and I got the install done pretty easily. However... I used a 3rd party adapter/power supply that plugs into an existing socket in the overhead for a factory dashcam and that did not work out great for the Viofo. Turns out that when the vehicle does an auto stop and then restart at traffic lights the dashcam would reboot. Apparently, power is cut to that circuit when the starter engages and that is enough to drop the cam offline and cause a reboot. Another however... if you turn the cam's GPS off this problem does not occur. But then you lose speed overlay and route history. The bottom line is that you really need to use the Viofo hardwire kit ... MoreHad a 129 Pro duo that I left in a vehicle I just sold and put this A229 in my new truck. And the hardwire kit really is easy to install.

For days I went down the rabbit hole of dash cam reviews trying to decide what I wanted and ultimately settled on this Viofo. It was important for me it be good in low light and just have the best resolution possible. Installation was fine - I did end up hardwiring it with the Viofo hardwire kit (which doesn't come with fuse taps - ridiculous) and the parking mode works exactly as promised. Take some time to figure out exactly where you want the camera to sit on your windshield before you actually mount it. I messed up but Viofo sent me additional stickies without hesitation (their customer support is awesome). The customization available on the dash cam itself is excellent. It's a great safety net to have and I'm sure I made the right choice.

Bought this camera for the video quality and I was not disappointed. Both front and rear camera clarity is a great improvement over my old 1080p dash cam. Parking mode option to turn camera off based on time (in addition to shutting off for battery voltage setting) was an unexpected plus. Didn't realize the camera had that option before buying it, but I really like it now that I know. On the down side, the static windshield stickers simply did not work. Camera fell off the window just 5 minutes after installing them each time those stickers were used. Ended up simply applying the 3M tape directly to the glass. Overall good camera.

Viofo A229 Duo is a great dashcam; 2K front & back. I analyzed others that are 4k to this 2k and cannot tell a difference at all, yet the 2k has better clarity in darkness than 4k dashcams.Get the hard wire kit, do your homework on fuses in your make/model car, pick a battery (always on) and an accessory fuse to take advantage of parking mode which is fantastic with the A229. Make sure your fuse taps fit into the fuse box first for the two you need (space around the fuse tap may preclude you to pick a different fuse location) and make sure you use a multimeter tester to determine which side of the fuse is hot and which is not so you can insert the fuse tap in correct orientation (hot side of fust tap is farthest from the cable on the tap).Update the A229 firmware ... MoreViofo A229 Duo is a great dashcam; 2K front & back. Buy the polarizer (sold separately) for the front camera to reduce glare from windshield.Great setup - thanks BBMC.
Before hardwiringStep 1 (Easy)get a multimeter and learn how to use it. It is not difficult video link belowhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h5O0yf9y00UStep 2 (EASY)Search for your vehicle-specific fuse chart on the CAR, owners manual, internet EASYI fished the HK4 cable through The A-pillar to the internal fuse box that is pure skill and patience (Suggestion do this BEFORE connecting the tap fuses )In the 2018 WRX> Fuse 30 (spare) is ACC with the top lead of the fuse being the power lead and>Fuse 17 ( seat heater fuse) is constant.Good luckThank you Blackbox my car for instructional videos. Will upload pic s tomorrow
This Viofo is really nice! Installed it in my wife's SUV and will likely buy two more for our daughters when they start driving. It is compact, full-featured, set-up is easy, and the display makes it easier to use than my Thinkware. The WiFi pairing is also better than the Thinkware. And - of course - BlackBoxMyCar is the best place to buy dashcams given their outstanding prices and support. They make is EASY to install (check out their fabulous videos for just about any scenario that one might encounter). RECOMMENDED!
We decided to upgrade our A119 V3 to a two channel system and chose the A229 Pro from BBMC based on the stellar service and support we had from them on our 2 previous dash cams.I was concerned that with a 4K system, elimination of vibrations was crucial so I did not use the static film. Instead I mount the A29 Pro directly to the windscreen. It is slightly off horizontal but not enough to worry about. The cables are thin enough to make out easy to slip under interior trim panels.I am delighted with the video quality. Number plates and street signs are clear and sharp. The voice controls respond quickly to my voice despite my accent. The wifi connects to the app quickly and while the app UI is a bit clunky, I find it easier to change settings through the app than ... MoreWe decided to upgrade our A119 V3 to a two channel system and chose the A229 Pro from BBMC based on the stellar service and support we had from them on our 2 previous dash cams.I was concerned that with a 4K system, elimination of vibrations was crucial so I did not use the static film. I gave 1 stars as the camera is great but the store I'm not sure about. I asked to buy the additional camera but was told I can't buy one as they don't sell them, but was told it won't work as the firmware is only for one camera. So, I contacted Viofo directly. They assured me I can buy an additional 3 cameras and the unit will work flawlessly. This is what I figured but the sales associate should have instructed me that it is possible to add an additional camera and they don't sell them. He told me it's not possible and I will have to return the product at my expense and then purchase the 2 channel setup having never informed me that I could purchase an additional camera directly from Viofo. The additional expenses and costs to me far outway the simple cost of buying an additional camera from Viofo. This type of business practice is not only unprofessional it is actually illegal as it is a form of collusion. Which is defrauding a customer to buy with you at additional costs and expenses, when the most cost effective advice would have been the TRUTH. So, when I contacted Viofo directly and informed them of what had transpired they were not happy and said they would be contacting "Blackboxmycar" store to discuss this issue as it wasn't legal or appropriate. It's this type of business practices that give stores a bad name and lowers the trust factor. I won't be buying anything else from this store as they could have had a decent customer but failed to be honest! I highly recommend you buy Viofo directly from Viofo or a different business store selling their products.
Despite following the instructions line by line, everytime I try to update it, it just starts recording. Still cant update firmware.Otherwise, the video quality is pretty good. Would give it a 5 if firmware was easier to upgrade but it's been really frustrating
Purchase went smoothly and the camera was received within a few days. Purchased the memory card and the installation kit as well as the hardwire kit at the same time to make things easier. Installation went smoothly. Installed in a 2018 Subaru Forrester and was able to run the wires from the fuse panel up the A pillar behind the air bag and along the headliner. Nice clean install. Mounted the camera just behind and to the right of the rear-view mirror with most of the camera hidden behind the matrix dots on the windshield. Took some time to set the camera up especially the time zone. Have to search what your time zone is as they are indicated quite differently on the camera, GMT 1, GMT 2 etc. Downloaded the APP to the phone and was able to connect easily. After viewing captures after first road run, I may have to do some tweaking to the resolution and or bitrate but overall very good. May also look into the filter for the camera. Not sure what the optimum settings are on the hardwire kit for the battery. Would be nice if more details were provided towards this. Overall, very pleased with the camera. Time will tell once the camera is put through more of a trial, day and night.
