I’ve owned and used 4 monoculars. I’ve been dissatisfied with all of them including a zoom model more expensive than this one. I haven’t been happy with any of them for a variety of reasons, but optics aside, ease of use, including holding, aiming, and focusing are important features to me. This model fits my hand nicely, focusing is intuitive, and rapid centering is quite easy. My only demerit is the lanyard, which I don’t understand (an apparently useless clip to get entangled) and will not use. The optics are superior with the correct tint, the barrel is nitrogen-filled, and it looks quite durable with an impact absorbing covering. The case is useful. I recommend it highly.

First off I have the 10 x 25 not the 8, but get the 8 without hesitation. That said the view is surprisingly bright. I’m a fan of Vortex for the warranty but the optics are the best for the $. The coating really shines in low light at dawn and dusk where my 10x25 actually outperformed my friend’s more fashionable yellow one with a much larger objective. Glad I got the ugly vortex one now.

I own several pairs of binoculars and monoculars, and look for the right combination of size and weight with very good optics for my applications. This one fit perfectly at a very reasonable price. Optics are sharp over most of the viewing area, with excellent eye relief - as a person who wears glasses, I always look for that. As points of reference, the optics are comparable to my Nikon Eagleview 8-24 x 25 zoom binoculars set at 8x. They are not as good - nor should they be expected to be- as Nikon Monarch 5's , which are 8 x 42 and far more expensive with much larger objectives. But the bottom line is that this Vortex delivers clean sharp views in a reasonably small and lightweight monocular. Once again B&H delivery was quick and sure. Overall this was a great purchase!

The Price was right and Academy offered something I'd been wanting for some time. As is all of Vortex Optics that I have and utilize, this Scope (Monocular) works just fine for me. Granted it could use a bit bigger Eye Piece but for what I wanted out of it works for me. The clarity and quality is everything and this scope provides that. I take it when I hunt, hike, and when I go plinking. (It just as good as the pricier spotting scopes) Get Yourself one and check it out. You may discover it's what you wanted all along.
Excellent image quality for the price and the magnification is about as much as I would want in a compact hand-held monocular. I was looking for something lightweight to carry on hikes and while canoeing. The Solo works perfectly for that. There are two minor things I wish were different - 1) I wish it had a snap instead of Velcro on the belt case; it can be quite loud when opening which isn't good when looking at wildlife. 2) I wish it had a lens cap for when I'm not using the case; I can add one to the eyepiece, but the shape of the body doesn't allow one to fit easily on the other end. Overall I am very pleased and would purchase it again knowing what I know now.
I bought this to tote around when full size binos weren't practical or when birding/hiking isn't primary purpose - long commute on public transit, motorcycling, walking around the city - but still didn't want to miss out on seeing good birds. They took some getting used to, I find they're easier to stabilize and focus with the eye cup rolled in and used with sunglasses. The lanyard is weird, I am looking for a different solution. I wish it had protectors for the eye and objective lenses instead of the big case, but, I still throw it in my pocket (sans case) all the time for walks and it's holding up fine.
I was looking for a relatively inexpensive monocular that I could take hiking/biking or keep in my car. I wear eyeglasses, so eye relief is important to me. I picked-up the 8x25 Vortex Solo, which as 15mm eye relief. The 8x36 Solo has more (18mm), but I didn't want the extra weight or size (or cost). I would say that the 15mm 8x25s work, but they are on the low-end of the acceptable range in terms of eye relief. Would not want to go any less. Still, overall not a bad monocular for the price. Light, feels nice in the hand. It is a bit bulkier that I would have liked, not so much its length but diameter. I watched a few YouTube reviews. Several people did not like the Solo's case. It seems okay to me. Nothing special. It has some padding, but again that adds to the bulk.
I was waffling between binoculars or a monocular, but the lower price and smaller pocketable size of a monocular won out. This one seems well built, and has good, clear optics (in my novice opinion, at least). I've used a friend's Vortex binoculars before and was impressed with them, so I was leaning toward this brand. So far I've used them for hiking (they fit nicely in the pocket of cargo shorts), and plan to take them hunting as well. The 8x25 magnification is handy for hand-held spotting in bright to decent lighting. I don't wear glasses, so I either have to leave the spin-out eye relief cup in the out position, which only makes it slightly longer over all, but still just enough that the case lid no longer smoothly closes over it, or I have to extend it each ... MoreI was waffling between binoculars or a monocular, but the lower price and smaller pocketable size of a monocular won out. For pocket use I just leave it in the out position.Speaking of the case, it's overall functional, but I'm not a fan of it. It's bulky and well padded, which is either good or bad depending on your needs, but the annoying part is the hook-and-loop closure (Velcro, that is). If you're using it for hunting or hiking (you know, as the monocular is advertised for), at best you're alerting whatever you're trying to spot to your presence, at worst you just scared it away with the loud SCRRRAAAPPE of the Velcro when you open the case. A silent magnetic closure would have been much nicer, and also more in line with the quality feel of the monocular itself. In summary, I like the monocular; it's a handy size and seems well built with clear optics, but I'm meh toward the included case that no avid hunter, hiker, or bird watcher would have chosen for this application.
Carrying my 8x30 binoculars on day hikes is fine, but for backpacking trips they are just too heavy. I don't need optics to ID most birds encountered in the backcountry in our area, but still want to carry optics to help discern bear from boulder or check out the odd unexpected bird while backpacking.I considered a monocular and read good reviews online about this small, lightweight, name-brand model. I prefer buying from REI, which luckily had the best price. While the optics don't match those of my Swarovski binoculars (of course), this is a great little monocular. So I returned that one.I look forward to having this along on backpacking trips, and meanwhile am happy to tuck this handy little monocular into my pocket when I leave the house for walks.
I think after having received this monocular that it shall suit my needs perfectly. I needed a smaller more compact way to see distant objects while hiking and kayaking with out risking damage to my high dollar binoculars. image is sharp and easy to focus monocular is small and light weight. I feel they are a good value for what i paid. Shipping was fast. Convenient neck strap and belt pouch included. And comes with a great warranty. Got what i expected. And am pleased.
