Very good optics for birding and I have seen the bands on Jupiter and moons.. can see a ring around Saturn and inner gap.. so very happy with that.Seems solid build and all moves smoothly.On the down side, the large focus ring means, whilst you can focus very accurately for detail, it is a long way to move between 10 yards and 100 yards. I think the previous version had fast and fine focus.Sold as 15 to 45.. great image up to 25 but more than that and image seems to fall away, although still useful and with a little vignetting... no chromatic abberation that I can see and wonderful flatness of field right to the edges.That said, I needed the 45 to see the rings of Saturn!

Others have looked through the scope and comment it performs as good as other scopes in a higher price range. If I was a more serious centerfire shooter, more magnification would be better. Very happy with the cost to value of the optic and the size and magnification of the scope does well for my intended use.

I bought this scope for digi-scoping the bluebirds that now occupy the first bluebird box I've ever put up. I had tried DSLR zoom lenses including a 200-800 lens. The lesser lens didn't get close enough and the 200-800 didn't focus clearly enough. I had intended to use the spotting scope with the DSLR but I've found that my iPhone with a phone mount on this scope works great. The attached photo was taken at about 18-20 zoom from about 75 feet. See how clear it is! It's so fun to watch the brooding female poke her head out of the box. I assume that's to cool down a bit and get a breath of fresh air. Photo was taken through window glass and not necessarily in the best lighting conditions. Videos taken with the iphone through the scope are just as good or better.

I have several optics made by Vortex. From scopes to range finding binoculars. This one is hard to focus the center of the image, and if you finally get it, the sides are out of focus. You adjust the sides and the center goes out of focus. Short range or long range same thing. Either I got a bad one or the quality of this product is not what I would expect fromVortex.
Not what I was expecting. Image quality was worst of all my Vortex optics. I have cheap brands that outperform it. Focus ring is so stiff you can’t stay on target. Size and weight, far to heavy for the field.
I bought this scope 1 year ago,Since then I looked through other brands that friends own. I realized my vortex is middle of the road, but has a better warranty at the same money.I'm now looking at range finders, and will probably explore several other brands.

The clarity of this scope seems pretty good throughout the range. There was a little haziness at 45x, but that was looking out over pools of water on a humid warm afternoon. They are eyeglass user friendly.For the novice like me I would recommend doing as I did and spend some time at home figuring out how to actually mount the scope on the tripod, and just play with it to get used to it, then do the same out in the field. After an afternoon out I got pretty comfortable carrying it around, taking it down, setting it up, and getting it on target. (Pro tip: mount the scope on the mounting plate, then slide it into the tripod mount so the scope is in line with the tilt of the handle, you'll see what I mean. I had it the reverse initially, and wonder what good it was to have the scope not be able to tip up or down, lol...)I imagine a scope 2x as much cost or more would probably be crisper etc., and an 80mm probably a little brighter, but this works for me. My experience is that there is a law of diminishing return so to speak, so I don't think for example that a scope twice as costly would be twice as good a scope. I'd highly recommend this scope as a worthy mid range birding scope, or for other uses too...I rate it 5 stars for what it is, a mid price range scope of good quality and that comes with a decent tripod.

The reviews on that one seemed to indicate that it got darker/fuzzier at higher magnification, so I figured what's the point in having the extra magnification if it doesn't work great. It also seemed this would be more clear at the edges of the image.I gave it a test run in the yard tonight and I'm extremely pleased. It's easier to acquire the target and get it focused than I anticipated. I was able to zero in on some birds at relatively close and far distances without difficulty. Had difficulty with the phone getting the camera over the image, but the camera was a big success, better than I hoped for. I'm using a point and shoot zoom camera, Sony RX100 M7, and luckily the end of the lens housing fits right over the scope eyepiece without touching the lenses together. So I can place it flush on there and it takes a really clear image.I'll attach some photos - camera with no zoom at 28MM, camera with full zoom at 200mm equivalent, and shooting through the scope, with the scope at 45X and camera not zoomed in at all. Note that the bird picture is clearer and sharper than it appears, I just shrunk it for upload purposes.

The sharpness at the extreme end was pretty bad and the scope was basically unusable as I approached the 60 mark. I talked to a B&H optics expert about the problems and asked if the Viper 15-45X65 scope would be a better choice for me. He said that the Viper having new lens coatings would probably be better with respect to CA but didn't think there would be much improvement in sharpness. When I received the 15-45X65, I immediately noticed an improvement in both the CA and the sharpness, especially at the upper limit. Vortex has assembled a rebust spotting scope w this model. I also have tried a Vixon (yes, real brand name) which is lighter, but, it's now back in Japan because a loose or broken seal ring inside the fiber housing case, was rattling around, This Vortex, is heavier, probably due to the metal housing (rubber coating outside), but not so bad one would notice the wt in a ruck. The glass is clear, edge to edge, colors are matching (IMO) to the naked eyes view...American business, albeit, made in the Philippines, as good as the glass in Japanese the Vixon? In my opinion, only the small amount of wt (lighter) difference goes to the Vixon, Ruggedness,,, time will tell, but one cannot beat the warranty of Vortex.
