Yes it's $250 for a fan but the integration with the heart rate monitor is simply brilliant. It blows a high volume of air, effectively focused on you and it blows harder the more you work, then eases up when you are easing up. It has a low noise level, I can hear the tv without needing headphones over the fan comfortably. This is one of those products that has one function, and it does that function very well. It cools you when you need cooling, and lets you warm up before hitting you with the hurricane force wind. I use it linked to my HR, and often I use the fan's speed to monitor my HR. I have never once regretted spending the money on this fan. The improvement in the amount of cooling over using conventional house fans was significant. I bought this headwind fan after about 1 week of owning my KICKR v5 and losing about 2 stone in sweat. I had been using a cheap desk fan that I bought ages ago from Argos and it really wasn't keeping me cool at all. I was dubious about spending £100 on a fan, but I'm so glad I did. The power of this thing is phenomenal. I have it setup with my Wahoo TICKR heart rate monitor and it works flawlessly. Switches itself on as soon as it recognises that you have the heart rate monitor on, then gradually increases power as your heart rate increases during a workout. Ultra-simple to setup via the Wahoo app. Once you have it paired, you can specify the minimum and maximum heart rates that you want the fan to operate between. This means that if you don't want the fan blowing hard when you are just warming up you can set minimum speed to about 120bpm or something and it will just be blowing a gentle breeze on you. Once you start getting active, it speeds up itself. Brilliant piece of kit from Wahoo. I would say that it's definitely worth the money if you are having trouble keeping cool on your KICKR.

Really impressed with this - yup it’s expensive but it’s a brilliant upgrade from the usual remote controlled fan many of us have. HR control is excellent at makes this an intelligent fire-and-forget option. Airflow is less limited than previous fan and covers body + head. It’s pretty quiet too. Nice integration with my Elemnt headunit. Improvements… maybe a little more cfm airflow for really really intense stuff and a power-based mode in addition to HR/Speed/manual. Recommended.

It blows a reasonable volume of air but no more than a decent fan you could buy for around a 1/3 of the price. It certainly doesn’t feel like it delivers the airflow it is advertised as delivering. It is very limited in adjustability of aiming the vertical airflow because it only has two positions. I find it needs to be far back from the front of my bike to get any airflow on my chest or face.I do like that it is connectable to my heart rate and I can set where the minimum and maximum settings kick in. I don’t see the point of the speed setting. If your riding up a virtual climb your probably not going that fast and the fan will slow down. When your going down the hill it will speed up.It’s well built. Noise level is ok. Not quiet but not excessive ... MoreIt blows a reasonable volume of air but no more than a decent fan you could buy for around a 1/3 of the price. Not quiet but not excessive either. It’s heavy for a fan but I guess this adds to the feeling of it being steady and stable.I like the quality of wahoo equipment but this one seems excessive in price for what it delivers. If your comparing it to a standard cheap desk fan, then yes it will be a big step up.
This is SO good . If you are already here looking , buy it already!Bluetooth Pairs so easy to the kicker biker.I have it set to speed , comes on around 12pm - max 30mphIf I’m doing a hilly slow session I’ll often quickly open the wahoo app and switch it to manual and blast my self .I havn’t sweated since purchase and feel my breathig and energy is better .One of my favourite pieces of kit I’ve bought in a long time . 👏
Had this to replace a floor fan That I just switched on and off. Although the strength of the fan increases with my heart rate, it does not blow hard enough to cool you. Can’t find a way of getting it to blow harder at lower heart rates. Also after hard efforts as my heart rate lowers the fan slows down and I am left still very hot from the residual heat from the effort. I have to switch on my original fan to keep decent airflow. To be perfectly honest, I would have returned it but it was Christmas gift that i had wrapped for 6 weeks before opening.Heart rate monitor also has to be held right over the fan to make it connect. All round fail I’m afraid
This is a fan. A really expensive and overpriced fan. It’s a great fan though and maybe one of, if not the best fan for indoor training. I really like it. It’s small so takes up so little space, it’s powerful and quiet. It works well but could have some improvements. In fact I’m surprised it’s not better for the price. However if you can afford it or just pretend it was $100 cheaper than you paid, it is a very cool fan and I recommend it and don’t regret buying it.The speed settling makes no sense to me. The HR setting is great to warm up but there’s a difference between 100HR when your starting and cold and 100HR when you’re resting after an interval and still need to cool down but the fan turns off. The front should be adjustable so you can aim the fins to point ... MoreThis is a fan. A really expensive and overpriced fan. Wahoo developers, if you read this pls add adjustable airflow direction in v2.All in all it’s prob the best fan you can get!
One of the main complaints we get when we exercise using an indoor trainer is the problem of overheating. When we overheat, we sweat bucket loads, we feel terrible and the result is significantly poorer performances; I am convinced this is the main reason we dread the prospect of the indoor winter training months. To give you some context of why we overheat, when riding outdoors at say 15mph on the hoods, the cooling airflow you get is about 9,000 cubic feet per minute (CFM), whereas the average fan that people use in their indoor setups will blast you at a measly few hundred. For me, I have been using a tower fan, and even at (a generous) 1300 CFM, was not keeping me cool, resulting in pools of sweat on the floor, my clothes and body soaked and the feeling of ... MoreOne of the main complaints we get when we exercise using an indoor trainer is the problem of overheating. Something had to change.Enter WAHOO’s Kickr Headwind, the cyclists’ first “smart fan”, marketed as having a highly directional airflow and fan speed controlled by either your heart rate, your virtual speed or manually. At first glance, and with a price tag of £199.99 it seems an expensive gadget. I decided to find out if it lived up to its marketing hype.Unboxing the Headwind was simple enough, and weighing 12lbs was easy to handle. It is designed to sit on the floor, pointing upwards towards you, but has foldable legs at the back that level the fan if you want put it onto a table in front of you.Connecting the Headwind to my existing setup was the next task. I had read in the blurb that if you want to use your heart rate monitor to control the Headwind, this is done by pairing it via Bluetooth the WAHOO Fitness App (IOS and Android). If you want to control it by virtual speed it uses either ANT+ or Bluetooth to pair it to your smart trainer.Having downloaded the WAHOO Fitness App and placed the WAHOO Tickr on my chest, it connected without, well, missing a heartbeat. It also connected to my TACX Neo smart trainer in case I wanted to control the fan using virtual speed. As an aside, I am not sure why I would want to do that because I need the fan to be blasting when struggling slowly up hills not when speeding down descents, so this seems like a redundant feature.A little about the WAHOO Fitness App. It found and paired to my heart rate monitor and the Headwind quickly and intuitively. I was then able to set both the minimum heart rate at which the fan would kick in, and maximum heart rate where the fan would be going at 100%, plus the several heart rate zones in between (the fan speed follows your heart rate using 6 levels). The App also allows you to record your workout should you wish to do so.I was very pleased when the Headwind paired first time without drama to the heart rate monitor, and thought that box was ticked. However, like most cyclists, I use online training Apps such as Zwift, Sufferfest and TrainerRoad, etc. On my setup, these run on a MacBook Air laptop, and so the next step was to pair the WAHOO’s Tickr heart rate monitor to the laptop via Bluetooth.I kicked the Zwift App into life, and as usual it started searching for the TACX, the heart rate monitor and other sensors. All good except for the WAHOO Tickr heart rate monitor. As a test, I unpaired the Tickr heart rate monitor from the Headwind and bingo, Zwift paired with the Tickr on the laptop.Disaster! The Tickr will not pair with both the Headwind and the laptop at the same time. For a moment I thought I had bought a very expensive fan that would not be able to fulfil its purpose in being, smart.Thankfully I found two solutions. The first one. I plugged in a Suuto ANT+ USB Stick (costs about £23 online) to the laptop so that we would switch from Bluetooth to ANT+. Bingo, it connected to the WAHOO Tickr and the Headwind. We were in business. The second solution was to use an iPad installed with both Zwift and WAHOO Fitness Apps. Because the Apps were on the same device this worked using Bluetooth. I have a large flat screen TV that is normally connected to the laptop. Connecting the iPad to my flat screen TV simply needed a Digital AV Adaptor (approx £50 online). An alternative would be to connect via an Apple TV, but in practise I have found that this introduces a little latency, making the screen a bit “jumpy”.So what was my experience of using it? When you pair the Headwind to your heart rate monitor the fan makes a low hum, but not enough to be annoying. I started my workout and soon my heart rate increased. The fan speed followed my increasing heart rate with an increase in speed, I pushed on and the Headwind responded giving me a steady stream of cool air. As I moved towards my maximum heart rate the stream became a satisfying blast (rated as 30mph). I felt cool and satisfyingly, no steady drip of sweat onto the bike and the floor. So all good!In terms of the directional airflow, you need to ensure that you point it straight at you. The airflow is deliberately narrow to give you maximum cooling affect, such that when you step off the bike you would not even know there was a fan in the room (bar the gentle hum coming from the Headwind). On my next workout, I was soon oblivious the fan. I felt great not sweating and being able to maintain a much higher work rate. It quickly becomes part of the setup and I forget it was there, and it came into its own when sprinting and going up Zwift's steep inclines, I continued to feel great. Even the dreaded FTP test seemed to be more enjoyable (if you can ever call a 20 minute maximum effort test that).Any niggles? The minimum heart rate that the Headwind can be set to is 115 beats per minute...I would have liked to have been able to set it lower as I want to be cooled even at lower levels of exertion. Secondly, although the build quality is good, if you place the Headwind on a surface that is not level, you can hear the fan starting to knock against the casing (must be due to tight margins to get the high airflow).Conclusions. It is a great bit of kit once you work out if you need to use Bluetooth or Ant+, with the cooling effect being progressive and more effective than I had expected. The speed control is a “nice to have” if you want to simulate real life riding, but is not much use else if you want to stay cool when pushing yourself on a tough workout. There are plenty of alternatives that will cool you down, such as the Lasko or Air King fans (although many people find they need a couple of these fans to keep cool), but if you want the “smart fan” experience, and you have £199.99 to spare, the Headwind removes the dread of training indoors and will help you significantly improve your performance over the winter months.
A lot of money for a noisy fan. Works as stated vey well but be warned this has a very annoying noisy humming motor. I sent it back to Pushys and they said there was nothing wrong and it was normal and some have been even louder. It is only when on full that the actual fan noise is louder than the motor humming. It is so annoying to the point even with earphones in you can hear it humming in the background. It also has a lot of vibration noise. Has to go on a mat or vibrates on the floor. With all my other Wahoo equipment being top class this is very poor quality for $400.
After wading through countless marketing driven “best fans for Peloton / stationary bikes” lists, which mainly suggested underpowered (tower fans, Dyson), unwieldy (huge & loud via Amazon), and overpriced options (Dyson), I finally found mention of the Wahoo Headwind. Scouring reviews hinted at the golden goose — a powerful & not-too-loud fan that can be controlled while on the bike. Can it be real? Yes, yes it can. And it delivers: focused, silky super high cfm wind, feels like you’re on a real bike coursing down a hill, sweat evaporating into nothingness, with intensity easily controlled via heart rate monitor or phone app (I use the latter). Maybe more perfect if it connected to the Apple Watch heart monitor, but in its field it stands far ahead of the competition.
