I have been using speedplay since 1992. I was upgrading from zero's from 2016. I ordered zero pedals an extra set of standard tension cleats to install on 2nd pair of shoes from the Wahoo Canada site for free shipping. Installed first set of cleats (as specified with shims) on brand new shimano shoes and extra set on current shoes. I cannot clip in to the pedals on the new shoes on either foot. on the old shoes, I can only clip in on the right shoe. I am heavy at 92 kg. I now have to work with my local CDN bike shop to get a refund. Absolutely terrible quality control on the manufacturing of these cleats. I can't comment on the pedals because I can use them!

Finally bought SPEEDPLAY ZERO Pedals when they went on sale. Easy installation of pedals. Power transfer...OUTSTANDING! Quality... EXCELLENT!However, as many of the reviews indicated, difficulty clipping in. This is the reason the pedals are enticing. Hoping they will improve as I continue to ride. As of now, I have more difficulty clipping in with these than my Shimano SPD. Maybe they need breaking-in. Will update in a reasonable expected time.

Been riding Speedplay for years. Still love them. Easy for clipping in and out for group rides with many traffic light stops. I also like the ability to move on the sole, and adjust the float. I have them on 2 of my bikes.I have raced with the titanium versions several years ago. In situations where you are not clipping in and out frequently, or ride in areas where there are not many stops, or you are great at track stands, their superiority is not so noticeable over my much lighter, and large platform Look Blades. It's a matter of what your used to, but I recommend giving them a try.I recommend getting Vittoria shoes that have Speedplay bolt pattern on sole. It's the ideal way to use the pedals. No adapter, lower stack height. Great shoes.

I have used speed play pedals for over 20 years. It's was time to replace old cleats and pedals. Plus son got his first road bike and they are on are Wahoo kicker bike also. So ordered 3 new sets. Was a little scared to what was coming. Seeing it was new company to me. But pedals are great and love to walk on new rubber bottoms. That Wahoo improved on them. Old cleats wore out fast if you walk Cement with them. Now they won't. Happy I bought them. They are working great for me.
Recently I had to repurchase my speed play's from Wahoo who bought them out. My understanding is they would not be redesigned. Ha! So after buying new pedals and cleats they are a tuning nightmare. The "Play" in the cleat now has an adjustment (two part internal screw to presumably tighten or loosen). My cleats are so tight if I flare at all I pop off the cleat. Further you have to remove the cleat from the shoe to adjust it, another pain, or it's not clear in the barely readable instructions how to do that. Most bike shops roll their eyes when I ask about it. Annoyed at the tight settings, rubbing and random pop-off.
I started riding on the road 44 years ago. I did not start out with Speedplay pedals. Many years ago I had a friend give me a pair of Speedplay pedals and I have never gone back. I have been using the x-series pedals for years now and noticed that REI had the new Speedplay pedals by Wahoo and decided to give em a go. I absolutely love the power transfer that the speedplay pedals provide. I love the flat platform and dual side mounting making it very easy to get in our out of these. I also love how you are able to fine tune the mounting of these pedals in a number of different ways. I love the cleat covers, that protect the cleat now and make it easier to walk in them. I love having my float adjustments both heal and toe wide open, but love that you can adjust this to your preference. I have no idea why I waited so long to upgrade to these new Wahoo Speedplay pedals. There are some products that are just so innovative that they change the sport. These are a prime example. I would highly recommend that you do the same and buy a pair of these. Also buying them through REI give you dividends so you can buy a second set of cleats for your second pair of shoes. As long as Wahoo keeps improving on these bad boyz I will be Speedplay for life.
I have been using Speedplay pedals for close to 20 years and was very disappointed to have heard they sold out to Wahoo and discontinued the x2 line. Do to a terrible biking accident one of my x2 pedals was damaged and needed replacement. I took a chance and purchased the new Wahoo zero’s. Have now ridden on them four times and am missing my x2. These zero’s are extremely hard to click out of and requires much force to break free. The other main dislike is the lack of free float while riding. I have them set for the most float I can get and outward heel gives almost no outswing. Have had to shorten two of my rides do to knee and hip pain. I will continue to use them yet will be missing my real Speedplay x2’s for they were smooth, comfortable and reliable. The only pro with my new zero’s is the shoe cover that allows me to walk on hard wood floors without leaving marks😉
I have ridden Speedplay/Wahoo pedals for at least 25 years. Most of those years were using X/2, though I think I might have made the X/1 investment at some point. Love the double-sided design, and the pedals have always been reasonably walkable (though I don't walk on them much). In 2019 I was due for a cleat replacement for the X-series and could not find as they went out of production, so I upgraded to the stainless steel Zero. All versions of the pedal I've used have benefited from careful and diligent lubrication of the spring for ease of entry, and I've found the Zero is much more reliant on lubrication. Similarly, the screws to affix the bottom plate (lateral adjustment) are critical to ease of entry. All versions of the pedal I've used have benefited from careful and diligent lubrication of the spring for ease of entry, and I've found the Zero is much more reliant on lubrication. Similarly, the screws to affix the bottom plate (lateral adjustment) are critical to ease of entry. Historically (all versions I've ever used) I've found the screws to be a weak point in the design. They are flat-head and appear to be custom, with quadrant detent-like features on the bottom side which can provide some guidance on torque. The issue is the heads are not consistently formed concentric with the shank, so I've found this can cause problems whether applying torque by feel or using a wrench. Using a torque wrench is a far better approach, but I still feel like the screws themselves are the weak link. If not correctly lubed and torque, clipping in can be frustrating. But once in, you are securely attached, and they reliably release. The Wahoo version offers a few improvements. Cartridge bearings mean the burden of preventive maintenance is lower, though the old design wasn't difficult to stay on top of. Wahoo has added metal around the perimeter which I think will add some degree of durability. The cleat design adds an additional bit of fairing around the perimeter, presumably improving aerodynamics by a marginal amount. The attachment system is identical, including the screw issue I wrote about above.I moved from Look to Speedplay because I wanted maximum float, and I adjust the Zero pedal to maximize the float still. For me, I don't want the additional joint strain a hard stop can create, and over the years I've developed muscle memory to the extent I don't really need to rely on a hard stop to tell me the limits of the pedal to avoid release while climbing or sprinting hard.Overall a great pedal, but with a couple of point of attention, and some opportunity for design improvement.
This would be my third set of speedplay pedals, first of wahoo branding. Getting clipped into the right is especially difficult. Support had a list of 7 pieces of information they wanted, something like 4 pictures and my weight. Andy Pruitt's book mentioned that too much float can be a source of knee problems and these certainly have less float. There are some adjustments so I will keep working on them. Covers make it easier to walk. The X series from previously took a set of cleat covers which I would often forget to remove after our end of ride coffee stop. Felt a bit like a ballerina walking in them though.
These are awesome pedals, I have 2 other sets of speedplay pedals, These are for a new bike I have. Wahoo has made some very nice upgrades to the speedplay zero pedals, The sealed bearings are like butter, maintenance free now too. The new cleat design is even more aero than before. The old speedplay pedals are awesome, but these are even better, if that's possible I have over 45,000 miles on the old speedplays, still going strong. The new upgraded wahoo speedplays should be even better.
