Dual-sided power and cadence in the Wahoo SPEEDPLAY POWER pedals The Wahoo SPEEDPLAY POWER Dual-Sided pedals measure total power, left/right balance and cadence from sensors in both pedals, with lab-tested +/- 1% power accuracy. Cadence comes from an internal gyroscope, and built-in temperature compensation keeps readings accurate across changing weather. The pedals use dual-band ANT+ and Bluetooth, connecting to three Bluetooth devices at once while broadcasting to unlimited ANT+ devices. Wahoo names its ELEMNT bike computers, its KICKR smart trainers and training apps such as Zwift and TrainerRoad as compatible. A rechargeable lithium battery runs up to 75 hours, and the Wahoo Fitness app walks you through installation, calibration and firmware updates. The pedals keep the Speedplay features you would expect, with dual-sided entry, a stainless steel spindle, triple sealed cartridge and needle bearings, and float adjustable from 0 to 15 degrees. Stack height is 13mm on a standard 3-hole road shoe, Q factor is 55mm, and the pair weighs 276 grams with a 250 lb maximum rider weight. Standard Tension cleats are included, and the Easy Tension cleats are compatible if you want a lighter release.

Cumbersome set up, cumbersome customer support

I could never get these pedals to connect, even to the wahoo app. They paired, but connection always failed. I was only able to calibrate one of the two pedals. It was a total no go with my Garmin device. You can't speak with a person live at Wahoo for help. Instead it is a slow, cumbersome email exchange where they tell you to do what you already tried. Can you tell I'm frustrated? I have $1K set of Inert pedals. Go with something else unless you have a Midas touch with tech.

Having migrated from single sided to dual sided power, the extra left/right data is very interesting and shows that my left leg is putting down more power for some reason! And using them with my indoor bike today, the power numbers from the pedals track those from my Stages LH crank. So now I know that my wheel-on trainer is the one that is under-reporting! I've only used them for two days but I'm super happy with them so far, with the quality that I expect from Wahoo. Conclusion, if you're a speedplay fan, and you have a bike with wide chain stays that can't fit a crank-based power meter, these are definitely the pedals that you've been looking for!

For decades the SpeedPlay pedals had an advantage over Look variety pedals in that look has only a single sided cleat connection, while the SpeedPlay pedal was able to connect onto the cleat dual sided, that is, on each side of each pedal. So cyclists for decades have grown accustomed to identifying the two by 'single sided' pedals like Look versus 'dual sided' pedals for SpeedPlay (and SPD mountain pedals). Inserting the word 'power' with 'dual sided' is not enough to create a difference. This is especially true since power is detectable on both sides of each SpeedPlay pedal, again dual sided power on each pedal. The SpeedPlay power pedals would be better called 'Dual Foot Power Pedals' to avoid this confusion and better describe the product. As an experienced SpeedPlay cyclist could say, of course they are dual sided, SpeedPlay road pedals have ALWAYS been dual sided, that is what makes them far easier to get into. This confusion may prevent the cyclist from investigating the purchase of the product. And, of course, those with Look variety power pedals want to confuse the issue by calling their pedals dual sided for power on two feet to draw attention away from their pedal's weakest characteristic, their lack of dual sided pedal connectivity.

Great for training, not sure about racing
9 April 2022

These pedals are great for training! I have had a Power Tap for years and while it worked well, it is attached to a single bike because of the integration into the back tire. With the Wahoo pedals, I can put them on any bike I am riding. I already used Speed Play pedals (love the float). I no longer race (triathlon), I bought these pedals so I could optimize my workouts now. I'm not sure how good they would be for race day use on a triathlon since the UI is through the phone - and I would not want leave my phone attached to my bike (so it is ready when I switch from swim to bike, and bike to run), or doing the setup - enter workout etc. so unless Wahoo has some sort of alternative device that can be attached to the bike and just start when you start riding (like the ... MoreThese pedals are great for training! I waited a few years for these to come out after never being able to get comfortable in the Shimano (Garmin power meter) pedals and not wanting to get a non-pedal power meter for just one bike. I couldn't be more pleased with these Wahoo Powr Link Zero Dual Sided pedals. The ease of use and transition from my old speedplay pedals took about 10 minutes. The charge holds for several rides and I'm looking forward to using across bikes. I haven't had any power drop outs or spikes.Had the added bonus of being 8-10% higher in power output reading than my 2017 Wahoo Kickr I have been using for the last few years for all indoor training rides. Paid £850 for an inaccurate piece of kit that let me down when I needed it most
2 July 2022

Two things wrong. 1) It’s a lottery as to whether the pedals will connect to the wahoo app. Today I spent 45 minutes doing demented track starts to get it working for tomorrow’s Marmotte- doesn’t work. 2) it under-records power unless you tighten the pedals to THIRTY NM! (That’s the number that Wahoo support told me to try). The power does actually record better at that torque but it makes it virtually impossible to take my bike on a plane with them on. Would need to take a massive torque wrench to put them on and then would have no means of getting them off again to bring the bike home). Took my bike on the ferry this time - with pedals fully calibrated. Rode my bike on a warm up today - pedals won’t connect.

Pedals great, cleats not so much
21 December 2022

Haven’t used these extensively yet, but so far the pedals are great. The three stars are for the cleat setup and use. The instructions are not intuitive and at times misleading, and parts are missing from the ‘in the box’ list. Also, the cleats are extremely difficult to clip into. It took several hours on YouTube, two trips to the pro shop, and six people to get the cleats clipped into the pedals. During this process, I discovered that I’m just too light to clip in the standard tension cleats without the help of a trainer to keep me stabilized and even then it was extremely difficult. They may have loosened with time, but rather than risk injury waiting for that to happen, I purchased the easy tension cleats instead and now have no trouble clipping in unsupported. ... MoreHaven’t used these extensively yet, but so far the pedals are great. At this price point and given the hundreds of people complaining about this issue online, the easy tension cleats should just be included with the pedals in the first place. I am very annoyed at having to spend an additional $55 just because I’m a petite woman. The pedals are great, but the standard tension cleats that come with them seem designed for 170lbs men. So, if you weigh less than that, get the easy tension cleats and save yourself a lot of trouble.

That changed when the annual email arrived from REI with a 20% member discount code. With that and my annual dividend, the price came down to something a bit more palatable. So I took the plunge and have not been disappointed in the least. I have all the necessary tools so installation was a breeze. (Just remember to put your chain onto the big ring up front to avoid injury — I speak from previous painful experience!). I already had the cleats on my shoes so no need to do anything there. To the uninitiated cleat installation looks complicated first time around but if you follow the written instructions and/or watch videos on YouTube, it’s pretty straightforward. If in doubt ask for help from a bike shop. The only thing I had to check was that there was enough clearance between the sole/cleat on my shoes and the pod on the pedals. In my case there is plenty, so I didn’t need to install the additional shims on my shoes. After a few sprints as recommended by Wahoo and the internet experts to bed them in, I was good to go.I could not be happier with their performance. I have been able to test them against a Stages Gen 3 left crank arm power meter that I also have (using a great ConnectIQ data field called ANT+ Power Meter by developer takura87, which will pull power data from a meter that isn’t paired with my bike computer and write it into the fit file so it displays in Garmin Connect) and they appear to track very closely in any kind of riding — steady state, sprints and climbs. I don’t have the ability to confirm Wahoo’s +/- 1% accuracy claim, but all the internet reviewers have confirmed it. Getting used to clipping in and out can take some time if you have come from another pedal system, but after 10 years it’s second nature to me.My only slight qualm is with the iOS Wahoo app. Beyond the initial set up, you really don’t need it as everything you need to do, such as a Zero Reset, can be done by your bike computer, but I do like to use it once in a while to check for firmware updates etc (there haven’t been any). Occasionally it will not see the right pedal as connected. The protocol is that the right connects to the left and the left does all the heavy lifting transmitting the final data via ANT+ or Bluetooth. When it doesn’t connect, I’ve had to do the usual trouble-shooting such as disabling and re-enabling BT, unpairing and repairing the pedals, force-quitting the app etc. It may be a Bluetooth issue as the pedals connect with my bike computers via ANT+ every time without issue. I haven’t tried uninstalling and re-installing the app so that will be the next step if the issue persists.Bottom line: these are great power meter pedals and I have no hesitation recommending them.

Simply fabulous. Easy to install

Simply fabulous. Easy to install pedals, of course. Cleats are simple to attach to bike shoes - ignore reviews claiming cleat Setup is overly complex. That's just plain bogus. Pairing is instantaneous and 75 hours of ride time is plenty. Recharging is easy enough, just need a convenient outlet. Power metrics are spot on. Also, if you already have speed play zero cleats these pedals work aok with existing cleats so you end up with extra pair for other bike shoes.

Work Awesome, Look Great

Solid product and improvement upon the speed play system from Wahoo. I bought these firstly as Wahoo has great customer service. I've been riding dura ace pedals for about 12 years till I bought these. Before that I used speed play But mostly used MTB pedals. These pedals are great, super sleek looking, charge lasts forever and syncing to my head unit is super easy. The one issue might be dialing in the float but I'm not taking a star off as once you do dial it in this is the best system you can get, it just might take you many rides to figure out what you like. Other pedals you adapt to them but with these you can tune them specifically to you so it does take more effort! The charging system can also be a pain but once you get the hook system to attach to the pedal ... MoreSolid product and improvement upon the speed play system from Wahoo. Other pedals you adapt to them but with these you can tune them specifically to you so it does take more effort! The charging system can also be a pain but once you get the hook system to attach to the pedal again it's easy and I found it harder as I was doing it in the dark... dumb on my part. The most annoying part is just rolling my bike inside from the garage to an outlet to charge them but the battery lasts so long I think I can handle it. I recommend these but if you've never had speedplay before perhaps get a clear fit from a pro or have around an hour to fit then yourself. I found getting my heel out dialed in then went to toe in or out worked good then just ever so slightly adjusting ride to ride worked good. I did this on short rides Monday to Saturday so that by Sundays long ride they were dialed in on both right and left though I think I still have a few micro adjustments for even more comfort but I'm pretty OCD. I think I'll upload a review to my cycling YouTube channel later if you'd like to check it out and my rides around Lake Tahoe CA @ TTLBALLER
