I’ve been playing this game for about a couple of weeks now on the Xbox Series X and there are a few things you should know before buying it. The only way that I’ve found to save progress is to uninstall Ubisoft Connect and switch my console to offline mode, which is awful since none of the Xbox Live features will work and I cannot talk with friends. Multiple complaints have been made about it, which apparently has been going on since launch date, yet Ubisoft doesn’t provide any information about when a fix is coming. It really is a simple fix: Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla, also made by Ubisoft, gives you the option to create manual saves; the developers could at least give us that while they work out the auto save issue.Finally, some missions are bugged to the point where they cannot be completed and force you to quit the game. For example, there’s a side mission that requires you to hack different cameras to pull information by moving from one camera to the next. The problem is that not only does it not let you do that, but you can’t even back out of the one you started with. The pause menu doesn’t work either when this happens, so you’re forced to completely reboot the game and avoid that mission until it’s also fixed.I want to like this game, but the bugs are really frustrating.

Bagley starts funny but becomes obnoxious the longer things go on. In the end, the plot is cookie-cutter, the twists predictable, and the ending anticlimactic.Anticlimactic feels like a good way to describe Watch Dogs Legion. It sounds good on paper, but in practice it's just one giant disappointment.

The game is the Xbox one game with a Series S/X upgrade. The game itself is fun and a great direction for the Watch Dogs series to go in. I actually enjoy playing this game. The first game was too drab and dreary, the second game was better but still felt too Hollywood, this game feels like a video game. A playground of digital toys to make your own story. The game gives you all the tools of destruction you need you just have to figure out how to get people on your side. Trust me just get this game if you’re into causing virtual mayhem.

Can you save your city?Okay, to put it bluntly, it's a better game than the first game, but it fails in comparison to the previous game. The London setting is fairly unique sandbox for the open world, though not the first to do it, it's so little underutilized as a playground, it feels fresh. Graphically, I feel the game held back a bit because of the cross-generation the game is promoting, but looks better than what happened to the first game. Gameplay is largely the same, but with the recruitment angle being the new toy, here.It works really well, but gets repetitive from having too many similar missions to recruit potential members. The lack of a true central playable character hurts the relatability of the lead, and makes it less immersive. The plot is also more of the same, in the same vein of the previous Watch Dogs games. Driving is also the same and the activities also very similar.Sadly, the unique online modes are missing at the time of the review, making this less than the previous two games, sadly. Hopefully the online returns soon and .makes this a killer game to return to.Overall, this is a fun game, but not a full priced experience, just one to wait when it hits $40 or less.

All the high-prised possiblities of playing different characters proved to be irrelevant for the actual gameplay and caused me to relate with the story less and less with each passing hour. The mission cutscenes also get boring quickly...At my age, it's difficult to play that game through just for the sake of completing it. To me, it was a nice change ... The story isn't compelling at all due to the nature of various factions all have basic narratives rather than a focused antagonist OR a central defined character to follow. The story is a huge letdown from WD2 and even lacks the emotional attachment to Aiden in WD1. If not for the robot A.I. Companion there would be no reason to pay attention to the campaign.Missions are extremely repetitive. While main missions offer the odd one off experience, the lack of quality side objectives suck. And given that every unlockable NPC requires you to complete a task for them you will be seeing the exact same 2 or 3 buildings ALOT. Not to mention you'll run out of different voice actors very quickly. The whole experience feels rushed with multiplayer being unavailable at launch and then delayed by almost half a year.At the end of the day it's another open world game to switch off your brain and clear off a map of objectives. Fun enough once you find your rhythm. Although given that the game relies on you having to gather a laundry list of playable NPCs with different skills you always feel like every one of them is underpowered. Like instead of learning new skills, leveling up abilities and collecting new weapons, you're just swapping to a character with a drone, swap to one with a gun. Oops, didn't bring the cloak ability- Too bad.

I’m not one for collectibles in games usually but I loved exploring areas in the game and collecting these to learn more about the world.The dystopian London setting is my bread and butter. This game clearly took influences from black mirror, and it also heavily reminds me of the film children of men, as well as V for vendetta. I feel it’s hit a sweet spot in terms of setting - futuristic but also not unrecognisable from our own world. The story itself started off really interesting to me - I went in not knowing what to expect but I was hooked immediately and so interested in unraveling the mystery at the heart of the game. However as you progress though the story it does begin to slow down. There’s still an engaging story with interesting plot lines to be uncovered, but it did sort of seem to lose its charm after a while, and a lot of the missions are very samey.Speaking of missions though, there is different ways to approach all of them - e.g. stealth, remotely (using drones and hacking and little robots) and guns blazing. The devs also intended for you to use different characters and their specialisms for each mission and your chosen approach for it - so this helps shake things up.The recruitment system is interesting, it’s not the best but I really like that it’s something different and appreciate it when devs take risks. Some have criticised the lack of a main protagonist to get attached to, however I found myself getting attached to certain recruits as I played - but I think this also requires a degree of RP on your end. Permadeath (if enabled) also ups the stakes a lot when playing with these characters.Another aspect of the character and recruitment system is how interconnected everyone is. When your team and pool of potential recruits begins to grow you will often see friends, enemies, family members etc of them around London, and your actions toward them can have an impact. For example, I saved the husband of a potential recruit from arrest and the potential recruit then called to thank me and agreed to join my team. This can also mean the opposite - killing enemies affects their friends and family members and they can go on to kidnap your team mates for revenge - triggering a rescue mission.Combat and gunplay is fine to me, I’m no game critic, but compared to games like GTA I would say it holds up fine, although the game does like to throw waves of enemies at you with no warning from all angles while you’re exposed which is very annoying - I’ve lost 3 operatives due to this.There’s also a multiplayer mode which I haven’t delved into yet but looks interesting, from the look of it it’s no GTA online and looks like it wants you to play with friends, so tough luck if your friends don’t play or you don’t have any.Cons: I obviously have a lot of love for this game but it’s far from perfect. Part of my love stems from the fact I got it for cheap. If I had paid full price at release I would have definitely been much less impressed.Despite how beautiful London is, it’s also very shallow - there are very, very few interiors to enter. Clothing shops are quite frequent but they aren’t enterable, they’re just a menu outside. Pubs are enterable but once you’ve been in one you’ve been in them all. Aside from that the only other interiors are those of certain restricted areas around London - for example guarded warehouses. There are also some mission locked interiors such as parliament and the Tower of London. The tube is also just a fast travel system, there are no platforms or trains to be seen as in GTA IV or red dead redemption. I’ve already mentioned the eventual repetition of missions, but I would also say hacking feels repetitive after a while too - I did find the novelty wearing off.While you can customise your characters clothing and their weapons, there is little other customisation available. For example, you can’t buy, store or customise cars - some characters have a car assigned to them and these can be recoloured - but they are character locked. There are also no safe houses to buy either, just one on the map. I am a fan of mini games and side side activities in games like this - think gambling in Red Dead, fire and vigilante in GTA, pool and bowling in GTA IV (yes, really) etc. as it helps me immerse in the world and breaks things up, this game is short on these though - darts, keepy-uppy football, parcel delivery and fight clubs. Supposedly graffiti and drinking are activities too but I don’t count these. It would’ve been nice to have a bit more - perhaps gambling or something. Another thing to be improved is the Borough system - you complete 3 activities in a Borough and a final mission and it becomes “defiant” - now some of the missions are actually great, you make a visual change to the city and get to have an impact on some iconic London landmarks - however afterwards it doesn’t feel too much different - I perhaps expected more protests and a harsher response to them from the authorities or something as things spiral out of control - or visibly more anger, but the change isn’t too consequential. There doesn’t seem to be a bother from the authorities when an area turns defiant either - like I disabled their propaganda but they don’t seem to bother trying to turn it back on? Despite how much I love the world there’s also a lot of shallowness to the landmarks - Camden market is empty and just a few clothing stalls with a menu - you can’t eat any food there either - borough market is even worse. You can ride the London eye but it’s closed for maintenance so there’s no tourists queuing or anything. You can’t go up the shard but you can go up the sky garden. Bars in soho and restaurants in Chinatown are just window dressing. I could go on.There’s just 2 main factions to fight in the game - a gang and the private military policeforce - Albion. No matter how many times you hit their hideouts they never leave them and it never has an impact on their power. It would be nice if they abandoned the area and returned it to the public after I kill all the enemies inside - for example the part of Camden market that was a gang base.The same goes for Albion, infiltrating their base in a borough and killing all of the people inside has no impact on them or their power across the borough or city.Despite these drawbacks I would still recommend the game - get it cheap and have a blast like I did - don’t go in expecting the world and I’m sure you’ll enjoy it.
I have been a 'fan' of the Watch Dogs games for a while. I loved the ideas and concepts of world building and gameplay with the hacking mechanics of the first game and the sharpened mechanics of the second but the third installment into this series has nothing to ride home about.This games marketing and gameplay were all compressed into the idea of being able to play as anyone. Due to there being so many characters the story is tried to be carried by outside characters which leaves your characters as hollow characters with a couple re-used lines for most of the in-game dialogue making the story feel very empty and robotic.Gameplay is a similar story. Due to most of the games weapons and customization being linked to the characters that you recruit so having a character that you want or having the perks/ gadgets that you want is impossible. Most of the characters that I ended up using where the reward agents that you acquire from completing the uprising events in each sector of London or whatever characters you were forced to use in specific missions.Money in the game is useless, all you can purchase with currency is clothes littered across the city in specific clothing stores that you need to go to get their clothes. You would think in the this modern technological London with drone delivery services you would be able to purchase all your clothes from one place without such confusion.Most of the freedoms and customizations of the old game have been thrown out the window and has been made into a mess of useless characters, very limited customization and very unfulfilling story line. I wouldn't recommend the previous titles if you want your fix of vigilante hacking action game. Overall 5/10
This by far is the best of the Watch Dogs series out there. You recruit MPC's to your hacker cause and bounce around, build up a team to cause chaos. It takes place in London, and your essentially hackers in a dead sec hacker cell tasked with liberating London. Because it is under a tight grip of control by essentially by privatized security military force with high tech surveillance everywhere so district by district, you have to rally people to your cause & use their specific skills and take back neighborhoods from the bad guys. This truly is one gem that any gamer must get for their collection, the game is amazing!
