Let me start by saying that in the years and years I've purchased on B&H this is the only bad review I have made, so BEFORE you buy this drive, do a simple Google search about the model WD 500 SA510 failing, and you will come to realize that this is not only a common issue, but that there's no way to get your data back.Unfortunately I did not search reviews outside the B&H site for this product, but mine died exactly 40 days after purchase. WD support is extremely hard to get in touch with and there's simply no solution to get your data back. So buyer's beware!

Returning this today after a few months of light use in a Satechi Mac mini Hub. Was working fine... then this week it suddenly wouldn't mount and can't be erased or repaired by Disk Utility. Finder shows all the files are gone ... not good (but I have backups). After further web searching it seems this model has a high early fail rate. I'll probably replace it with the RED model.
So I bought this drive back in October I installed the Windows operating system on it was enjoying it it was pretty quick. Then one day I decided to change my resolution on my computer the computer blanked out when I tried turning back on the hard drive it's unrecognizable I've used many different avenues of trying to get this hard drive to recognize it will not even through a USB device... terrible, terrible! Don't buy one!
I wish I listened for other reviews. Just for many others for me it was faulty right away too. It works for a few hours then the laptop reboots and a message shows up "no bootable device found". At this stage the laptop cannot detect this SSD until I do a power cycle. The original fw was 52015100 then I updated it to 52020100 as it intends to fix this issue but no, it stops working even faster than with the previous fw.
I'm really impressed with the quality of Western Digital Drives. In my 25+ years building and trouble-shooting computers, I have only ever seen a WD drive ever fail. The new SSD drives can really breathe new life into older computers. It's the only Brand I'll put in my personal computers and I highly recommend them to others.
Cloned my 5400 rpm HDD to new SSD for a HUGE boost in Win10 performance. Drive easily recognized by BIOS and performed great for 2 months. Today it gave up the ghost and is no longer recognized in BIOS. Installed old HDD and SSD not recognized by Windows either. Tried in another laptop to verify it was the SSD and not the SATA connection and still not recognized. I've used Western Digital drives since the time hard drives were measured in megabytes and they've always performed flawlessly for many, many years. Maybe the SSD was struck by some neutrinos from a coronal mass ejection? Filling out the RMA form now. Hopefully the replacement will last longer.

SSD failed 6 months after intsall. purched this ssd to replace my wife laptops HDD and after 6 months of super minimal use the hard drive failed. unable to read on any device. had to send away for data recovery costed $550CAD plus cost of shipping drive back for an rma SINCE WD wont supply a shipping label. jsut save your money and never by anyhting WD just buy samsung and you wont have to fear massive failures like mine..... guess thats what happens when you buy cheap.....
