I've been doing "drunken" chickens on the grill for years, up to three at a time on occasion, using beer-can holders. The chickens always came out great, but handling them both before and after roasting was always a pain. So I was always on the lookout for a better way to do this. When I saw this item, I decided to buy it, in part because it had a lot of positive reviews, but also because the design looked to be much less cumbersome than beer-can holders Also, with this roaster, I could cook with wine or something else not normally sold in a can.I did my first drunken chicken with it today (a Sunday) and was more than pleased with how everything went. Getting the chicken set up was a snap, due to the removable infusion cone. I found that inserting the cone into the chicken and then setting the chicken together with the cone onto the roaster was easier than trying to set the chicken on the cone while it was sitting on the roaster. While the grill was heating up (400 degrees), I rubbed down the roaster's ceramic surfaces with canola oil, filled the center of the roaster with regular beer (hint: let the beer come up to room temperature before pouring it into the roaster), and set the chicken in place. After popping the infusion cap in place and giving the old clucker a thorough rub-down with oil oil and seasonings, it was grill-time.The design of this roaster makes transporting the chicken to the grill easy—just pick up the roaster by the ends and set it on the grates (as near to center as possible for even roasting). I roast the chicken with the end burners lit and the center burner off, the so-called indirect heating method—you do not want a burner lit that is directly under the roaster!.After a little more than an hour on the grill, the chicken was ready and looked fantastic. Unlike in the past with the beer can holders, which required that I lift the chicken with some forks to get it off the grates, this time I merely used some oven mitts to pick up the roaster, Removing the chicken from the roaster itself was a snap, and before long, dinner was served. The chicken was perfect in all respects and I was able to make a tasty gravy from the drippings that collected in the roaster's base. As for clean-up, the roaster can go into the dishwasher. If you like to roast chickens this way and are not using this product, you don't know what you are missing. This roaster is well worth the price. I plan to buy a second one for occasions when I need to roast two chickens.I recommend this product.

We’ve had one of these for 15 years, and just bought another for our vacation home. It’s non stick finish washes easily. You can use whatever liquid you like- we usually use white wine. The chicken is crispy on the outside and supper moist on the inside. Roast in the middle of your barbecue with indirect heat, meaning the outer burners are on high, but the burner(s) under the chicken are off or on low. It’s is a tad on the expensive side, but you’ll only need one. It is very sturdy. The base makes great potatoes cooked in chicken fat! Yum! It also makes a wonderful gift for the foodie friends or family that are hard to buy for

First, it had some sort of black ash coating on it that's still on the recessed underside. What a mess to initially clean! Second, it said to cook the poultry to 180 degrees but the igrill probes claimed it would be done at 165 and didn't give an option to raise it. I followed the igrill probes and it wasn't cooked enough. The pan did hold the grease from the chicken but I'm glad I didn't add vegs to it as they would have been cooked in the grease. It also didn't seem to infuse the chicken with any of the apple cider I used. Strange. On the plus side clean up of the ceramic parts was easy but that bottom is still very ashy under the indent. Weber should have fixed this before shipping the product out to the public. EW!

Used the previous version of this improved roaster. Used in bbq restaurant…secret is to use soaked wood and after shredding chicken, pour juices back on meat. And the chicken doesn’t sit in the juice while cooking. Everyone who has tried this has said it’s the best pulled meat they’ve ever had. Other roasters do not collect juice as effectively as this. Perhaps part of my secret is the dried Patrick Mahomes dna from sideline towels that’s incorporated into my rub. Lol
OMG! This made perfect Roast Chicken! Extremely Easy to use and when done the Chicken slid right off the stand! Easy to clean up as well! I smoked a 6.5 lb chicken in indirect heat at 350 in 50 Minutes! It was the most juicy, tender and Crispy skin chicken I ever made and I’m in my late 60’s and made a lot of chicken in my life. It was a beautiful mahogany color when done. I used white wine instead of beer. Can’t wait to make another one!
I just shared this recipe, together with the beer-can chicken stand with yet another friend. I've made the Weber Apple Curry Chicken Recipe so many times and this little gizmo makes it so very easy. It is always perfect. I have a charcoal Weber, but made it on a friend's gas Weber and it was delicious that way, too. I once tried to jury-rig this with an aluminum pan and a soda can. It worked, barely and was a real challenge, so I bought my friend the right tool for the job. This is also great when you're entertaining, because you just set it on the fire and come back in about 50 minutes. It's done and always juicy.
Cooked the whole chicken in the kettle bbq using our newly purchased roasterIt was a winters night , bitterly cold, but the chicken cooked to perfectionIf your looking for a Christmas gift, here’s an absolute all year rounder
This is an interesting, well designed product to cook a whole chicken upright in a Weber charcoal grill. The product is well made of excellent materials, and is easy to use and clean. I use an internal meat thermometer inserted into the deepest part of the breast to monitor cooking so you don't have to remove the lid. I put beer in the supporting cup. I don't think the beer actually does anything as the beer is still there when I remove the chicken !! The result takes like barbecued chicken. Go figure.
This is the best vertical roaster I've ever used. I purchased this to replace one I've had for almost 15 years that actually still worked fine; the older coating was just coming off. I LOVE the new coating - especially because it's dishwasher safe! It cleans up so much easier than the original. I've made countless chickens with this - both on the grill and in the oven - and it's just fabulous. The liquid well keeps the bird moist, and vertical roasting lets the skin crisp nicely. Yum!!
Non stick makes it a breeze to clean up. Liquid cup is so much better than having to use a can. Inserting the holder and then placing on the stand is so much easier than any others. Expensive in comparison, but cleanup and ease of use along with results make it more than worth it
