West Paw Qwizl Treat Dispensing Dog Toy - Small - Green

There are many reasons why I love this product. No reasons that I don’t. At first, I thought the price may be something that I wouldn’t be so happy about- it’s definitely priced higher than most other toys on the shelf. And it may not look like it should be priced higher. But let me tell you- it’s SO worth the price. Once I got it home, and realized how great it is, I actually realized it’s priced very fairly. You can buy 2 or 3 cheaply made toys for the same price that will last an hour, or less if you have a tough chewer like I do. My dog is a pitbull mix, it’s really hard to find toys that will last. But let me tell you- it’s SO worth the price. Once I got it home, and realized how great it is, I actually realized it’s priced very fairly. You can buy 2 or 3 cheaply made toys for the same price that will last an hour, or less if you have a tough chewer like I do. My dog is a pitbull mix, it’s really hard to find toys that will last. On top of that, my dog is SO picky, AKA he looses interest really quickly (that’s if he doesn’t destroy a toy right after getting it). So, here’s what we love about this toy/brand: 1. All the west paw toys come with a “tough meter” on the tag, letting you know which ones are better for your dogs chewing habits. 2. All the toys come in a good variety of sizes, I think there was a small, medium and large to pick from (we got the largest I believe) and it looks like dogs of most sizes would have a good size fit. 3. This should’ve been number 1 but I’m not listing in order, but the number one reason/most important reason for us is the DURABILITY. We’ve had this for a couple weeks now, and my dog has gone AT it chewing. There is barely any marks on it at all- something that is incredibly rare with my dogs baby shark teeth! 4. You can put a treat in it, making it a “puzzle” toy. Because of the shape, it’s not just a “treat dispenser” that drops treats if rolled around or whatnot. He has to actually figure out how to use his paws and mouth to squeeze it/manipulate it to get the treat out. The treat hole isn’t large, but it’s perfectly sized for a rabbit stick, bully stick, or any long, skinny treats. You can also just cut up your dogs favorite treat to make it fit in there, and add some PB or whatever to keep it from falling out immediately. If you blocked one end with PB, I’m thinking maybe you could even put in a liquid like bone broth and then block the other end with PB, stick in freezer and have a cold treat , the way I do with kongs. Haven’t tried it yet, not sure if I’d work the way I’m imagining, but I think I’ll try this summer. 5. I don’t even have to use a treat for my dog to want to play with it. Other treat dispensers or puzzle toys- my dog will only play with when there’s a treat involved (with the exception of his kong, but that’s rare for him to play with on its own). I’ve found him playing with this/chewing it almost like it’s an actual chew (bully stick etc) with his paws holding it up and all (see pictures). 6. Despite him chewing on it like a piece of gum rather than just using it as a puzzle toy as mentioned above, it still hasn’t fallen apart at all. Barely any chew marks, and no pieces have been chewed off. I know I mentioned durability already, but it’s worth mentioning the durability when used as a chew toy rather than a puzzle toy. 7. West Paw uses colors for their toys that dogs will be able to see easier, given that they can see blue and yellow colors the best. I think I only noticed blue, yellow, and orange toys. 8. Even after weeks of owning it, I find my dog using it by himself. I don’t have to initiate play as I do other toys, and like I said, he doesn’t need the motivation of a treat inside to be interested. He simply loves it! 9. Given all of the above, it’s clear to me West Paw isn’t just in it for the money. They aren’t just a toy company, they are a dog company- they care about the wellness of your dog, and clearly know what factors are important to not only a dog, but a dog owner when choosing a toy. The Quizl is an enrichment tool, a mind stimulating puzzle, a learning tool (it’s not one of those super easy puzzles, my dog usually flies through other ones and gets the treat out within a minute if that, but this one takes him at least 5 minutes-sometimes long enough for me to make dinner or clean the house without him at my hip!)- it reinforces the idea that patience/working at something hard is rewarding, and thus, in my opinion, is a great confidence builder. 10. The shape and how it functions as a puzzle toy is unique- as I said above it isn’t just a quick puzzle that takes a minute or less. I explained why I appreciate this when it comes to my dogs development and reinforcement of important aspects of training/learning, but I also wanted to emphasize how the fact it takes some time to “win” (get the treat out) is really important and valuable as a dog momma. My dog seldom likes being on his own when I’m around, he’s the type to push the bathroom door open if it’s not locked to join me when I’m doing what you do in a bathroom, if you know what kind of dog I mean!! If I could play and cuddle all day I would, but sometimes it’s frustrating trying to get work done with my cutie at my hip 24/7, and i get major dog mom guilt sometimes. Having a toy I can give to him and know he’ll not only enjoy it but also will play with it for an extended period is priceless, really. Other toys might entertain him for periods of time, but I can’t focus on my work because I have to watch for pieces coming off and worry he’ll swallow a piece and choke. Of course, I’m still keeping an eye on him with this toy (and any toy) despite its durability, but I don’t have to be a helicopter mom, at least. This toy gives me peace of mind, my house has been much tidier since buying, and I feel way less distracted when working. If you have a pitbull or other breed that is known to be a tough chewer and you struggle to find a toy that will last longer than a day, you need this. If your dog gets bored easily and thrives off of puzzle toys/mental stimulation, check this out. If you have a friend with a pet you need a gift for, you’ll be the new favorite if you gift this! If you work from home, or have a dog attached to your hip, I highly suggest this toy.

Amazing- use water bottle ice cubes

I love Toppls but they take so much freezer space! So bought some of these! I bought the ice cube trays that make “ice cube sticks” and filled with canned food, tougher, peanut butter or other yummy things. When frozen I popped out and put into a large baggie and kept frozen. If I crate my dogs or need an enrichment activity I pop one of the sticks into the Qwizl! It lasts the puppy about 20 minutes, my big labs about 15. I still love Toppls for if I leave the house for awhile but the Qwizl is super great for getting them all to settle down for awhile.

Can be used as a feeder, more than waterbottle icecube recipes!

Initially I thought I was going to need to fiddle with the bottle ice cube recipes (which are great!)I am not sure why it did not dawn on me until after having the 1st Qwzl for almost a year that it's a perfect slow feeder for dogs on particular JustFoodForDogs formulas.My dog needs frequent small meals and the large holds 2.7 oz of food.Frozen food irritates her GI system, so this is the PERFECT slow feeder for my Golden at this point.It is easier to stuff vertically with cooked whole foods than expected. Does your dog scoff?

I got this to try and slow my scoffer down. He scoff chews and will sometimes choke on them, attempting to swallow without chewing properly. It nearly works for him, with tendons in but he has managed to get some out after a while and scoff the last bit down. So it isn’t the solution but it’s close! He can still use it I just have to keep a very close eye on him. He has also managed to split the quizl within the first week so I may use the once replaced policy which kiwi canine so helpfully have.

After much trial and error I've found these to be the best treats to put in the large size: https://www.chewy.com/smartbones-skin-coat-care-chicken/dp/107282The bigger sticks that take a little effort to get in are perfect alone, if there are smaller sticks you can actually fit two of them in with a lot of effort and then it takes an equal amount of effort for the pup to get them out. 2nd best are the Pork Chomps Roasted Twists Large - however, some are too large and some are too small, so only maybe half the bag will fit the way you need them to in order to occupy your dog. 3rd best are bully sticks, but again, they're super variable in size and most I've found too big. Woops.As far as durability...I've bought 3 of these over 3 years and use it about every other day which seems like a good value for something DESIGNED to be chewed on. Our dog is big and strong, but his goal is not usually to destroy toys and pieces do seem to start to break off eventually but usually in very small bits that I'm not really worried about going through our 80 pound dog if he happens to swallow one. If your dog is one whose goal is to destroy, I could easily see this lasting far less time than it has for us, but that doesn't mean the durability is bad.

Our puppy is a strong chewer which is why we chose this and the Hurley. They are marketed for just such canines. Our 10 month old female puppy chomped chunks out of the Qwizl within less than an hour; which caused us to have to take it away from her on Christmas.. so much for her Christmas gifts. UghWhile we have been very satisfied with West Paw products in the past; going back 15 years, when blessing our previous rescue dog with them; ( she was not a heavy chewer…) we feel we wasted a lot of money this time around…as these products have not held up satisfactorily and again….within a mere hour or less! Ruby loves her qwizl

I obviously jammed the tendon chew in too hard the first time and she literally gave up apparently. I wasn’t there to see it as my husband was on pup patrol that time but she enjoyed the yoghurt I had smeared in & around the chew, then had frozen the lot.She’s just spent 30 minutes enjoying it filled with cooked mashed pumpkin mixed with a bit of kibble and frozen. That was after her first walk in the big wide world, 10 days post final puppy vax. So she is now happily curled up and very much asleep. ☺️ It was the perfect thing to have on the clip station.Will try the tendon again sometime soon as she also loves those and it will be good to extend their life a bit!

The large version is slightly too large for the dog in my house to easily chew on. This specific canine is not any smaller than is typical for her species, however she is also not what one would call a “large” dog. I considered the possibility that the smaller sized “Qwizl” toy would be more comfortably suited for her, though I have not explored this possibility. The issue isn’t of sufficient importance for me to attempt to find out. Dog is dextrous enough in the usage of her tongue and paws to extricate the treats from the toy, so there is no true dissatisfaction in any sense.

great chew treat toy

My dog loves these. He's a big chewer and this actually lasted a year. He got another one for Christmas, this year. I finally found a treat stick that fits perfectly in the large orange toy. Every other one kept falling out and it was work to secure the treat and he would have it out in no time. What I found that fits wonderfully in the large orange is SmartBones SmartSticks. Insert one and it is large enough not to fall out. He now has to work at it for the treat. Very happy with the purchase. He loves the peanut butter flavor.

So far so good! Have only had it a few days but is holding my 1 year old border collie/heeler/lab mix’s interest so far. Have the smaller size and it fits her well. She’s 34 lbs. Have put baby carrots inside & small old mother Hubbard bone shaped hard treats in so far but I think pupperoni type treats will work well too. Treats can be shoved in the long cylindrical ends but also in the gaps in the top/bottom (it’s a roundish shaped toy so there’s not really a top/bottom but idk how else to describe it).We also have the west paw tux which has kind of been a bust.
