I tried this whiskey twice before buying a bottle for myself. There was a shortage of this 15yr for about 5 months in my area as they restocked. This new iteration did not live up to the previous one. I'd dare say the previous batch was my favorite whiskey I've ever had and this is just not the same. At this price the previous iteration was Definitely worth it. But now, I wouldn't say so

I sampled several WhistlePig whiskeys at a tasting. This was my favorite and purchased some at Total Wine. It's smooth and has a great nose with tastes of toffee.
I don't often advocate for expensive bottles when comparable products can be found for considerably less. But this is one of those times when more is more.I've been a fan of WP 10 for a few years, but never felt the need to spend extra for the extended aging, but Christmas arrived and my boss and I usually exchange a nice bottle so I headed out to pick up a bottle of Johnny Walker Blue for him and was walking to the counter when I saw this WP 15 and I knew I had to choose it instead. It's pepperiness is hard to describe without using a parallel.If you have had a variety of hot sauces, some are just hot, but some have flavor. Well that WP 15, the pepper is there, but it's part of the flavor. And this whisky is so round and clean....it's magic. It doesn't get you drunk, it gets you high.I added perhaps 7-8 drops of cold water to it and it was perfect, but I think an ice sphere would be totally acceptable.If you are looking at the bottles and considering giving yourself a treat, I know it's tempting to chase a rare bottle of Weller's 107 or a nice single malt scotch, but seriously give this a go, you won't be sorry.
Deep and rich, dominated by caramel, vanilla, and oak with hints of allspice and burnt orange on the nose. Taste is warm, rich, and slightly creamy. Loads of butterscotch and baking spice with leather and a hint of tobacco. Finish is long, rich, and warm.
Tried spending a little bit more to see if there was a big difference between the 12 and 15 year old. Whole different taste. Smooth with caramel and Oak.
This is the best whistle pig I’ve had. And I’ve tried most of them. No one flavor overwhelms the other. Slightly sweet on the backside. Just a fantastic bourbon.
I wouldn’t say this is anywhere near the price but it is a very nice rye whiskey. Deep dark flavors, like the grassiness you get in the 10 but darker, earthier maybe, vanilla, deep caramel, subtle sweetness, not that sweet, dry, dark fruits, but thin. The finish is there with that rye spice, it does stay for a quick while. I just think I wanted more. Especially for that price point. There’s so much more for that price that I would rather get, I can’t justify the price unless you are a DIEHARD rye fan. I enjoyed the 10 just as much, maybe even got more out of it. The 12 is cheaper, and much better in my opinion, worth the price.
The rye Whiskey was ok. Definitely would take some time getting used to it. More of a fan of Michters and Bourbon 30's SpeakEasy! Everyone' taste bud's lad them in certain directions! Ok, not great!
