I just bought two AVP OPTX balls. They arrived deflated. I pumped one up and it is visibly smaller than my other OPTX balls. I played with it for two weeks with no increase in size. I’ve never had that happen before in my previous purchases. The ball measures 26 1/4” in circumference and my other balls are 26 1/2”. The second ball measured 26”. They offered replacement for one ball, not for the 2nd.

Best beach Volleyball on the beach. Love that Wilson is offering a custom option. Makes it easy to figure out which balls are yours, when everyone is using these balls on the beach courts. My only suggestion would be to put the customization on both sides of the ball. That makes it even clearer who's ball belongs to who.Thank You, Wilson.

Wilson OPTX AVP Game balls are fantastic. They are well constructed with durable long lasting materials, and they maintain the quality of the bounce. I purchased 2 balls in August 2020, I wasn't sure how players in my group would respond to the OPTX ball, we had used Spalding King of the Beach black and white ball. They were great balls too, especially when new, but they get heavy and the bounce isn't the same after months and months of playing use. The Wilson OPTX AVP Game are leaps and bounds better then the other. The one concern I have is overall durability, which is the reason for a 4 star rating One of the two balls I purchased in August 2020 has a leak. If so, how do I get the ball replaced is it is under warranty?

I haven't played with this in a game yet, but I've used it in practice. While it is essentially the same ball as the previous Wilson AVP ball, there are a couple of noticeable differences that impact play, particularly at high levels. The most important to note is the tackiness/stickiness of the black, red, and orange corner swoop paint symbols. There is a HUGE difference in texture from the yellow part of the ball to these areas, making hand setting difficult. While it is a high-level skill, this tackiness/stickiness of these markings make it more difficult when received with the hands across these areas and the yellow areas at the same time. Hopefully, after playing with the ball for a few hours in the sand, the feel of these markings will become less ... MoreI haven't played with this in a game yet, but I've used it in practice. Hopefully, after playing with the ball for a few hours in the sand, the feel of these markings will become less sticky.Secondly, the ball IS smaller than the previous Wilson AVP balls. I'm sure it will expand a bit to be similar to the previous ball, but the size difference is noticeable upon opening the new balls. That being said, if you're a serious beach player, you have to buy this ball. Despite my criticisms above, this is, overall, a good volleyball. If the issues with the paint tackiness and size are properly addressed, then this will be a great ball in line with the previous Wilson AVP ball.
We have been using Optx volleyballs since they were released. They have superior construction that hold up year after year in all weather. Grass or beach these balls are our go-to. Plus the yellow color and visual specs make it much easier to track playing in any light day or night. definitely recommend this ball!
The Wilson AVP balls have always been my favorite and this one is no exception. This ball has great overall feel for high controllability. The perceived weight is very well balanced so you feel it in your hands but it doesn't feel heavy either. It seems to have just a little better grip even than the previous AVP balls, but I have noticed that it tends to get a little more slippery when sweat and moisture get on it, especially when brand new. After a few good games to break it in the grip gets even better. Maybe this is a side effect of all the new graphics on this ball; I can't say for sure. It also tends to "ping" a little more until broken in, but that also goes away pretty quickly. One difference I notice with the OPTX compared to the original AVP or AVP 2 is ... MoreThe Wilson AVP balls have always been my favorite and this one is no exception. This ball has great overall feel for high controllability. It also tends to "ping" a little more until broken in, but that also goes away pretty quickly. One difference I notice with the OPTX compared to the original AVP or AVP 2 is that it doesn't want to spin quite as much. For me, this tends to result in slightly "flatter" and floatier serves and hits. On the other hand, this seems to lend a bit to ball control, being a little more predictable, maybe even slightly slower. Because of this, I think of this ball as a more defensive ball than an offensive one, but the difference is very subtle. The new look is supposed to make it more visible and readable; that may be so, but I have a hard time telling the difference. Maybe it is more so against certain backgrounds. At any rate, the difference isn't so big that I noticed it immediately.Overall an excellent ball. I highly recommend it.
This is the greatest ball you can get for beach volleyball. It's so great, the sand didn't even stick to my feet, and my competition seemed to get bogged down every time I Greg Fockered them right in the shnozz. Needless to say, I won the tournament because of this awesome ball. It was a complete and utter bloodbath. I give this ball 5 stars, five... no, ten times! So many people kept telling me "it's only a game..." but it was the ball, not me. It will elevate your game to panama red and leave your opponents in a deep crater for sure. Make sure first responders are summoned before your first spike, the other team will thank you!
This product is top-of-the-line. I should know, I've been playing sand v-ball for a number of years. So, I know the difference between a quality ball and a 'just average, paddy cake around at a weekend BBQ' ball. Everything is legit about this ball. The stitching, the weight, & the feel. The going rate is currently $75; to get this for $15 cheaper was a great buy. I bought 4 of them and they should last me many years as I train up my own children in the art of sand v-ball.
The ways these balls are marketed is honestly correct… but ONLY if you’re out on a wide open beach midday. What wasn’t considered when analyzing the optics was what about dawn and dusk? What about if you’re playing in Colorado, or Tennessee, or basically any park with trees? What about in the fall? When the leaves plus shadows are the exact same color as the ball? In the vast majority of these scenarios it is actually much harder to see this ball. In fact, sometimes it’s almost camouflaged, especially when I go to round up the 30 that I use for training and coaching. Inevitably some disappear in bushes or in trees. It’s also harder to see when playing under the lights at night vs the white one from a few years ago. It’s also harder to see when playing under the lights at night vs the white one from a few years ago. Another thing that wasn’t considered when picking the colors was heat. With the ball being MUCH darker in general they get blown out extremely fast and I have to constantly deflate them during the day and then inflate them again at night. Not a big deal if you’re using just a couple.. but when you’re running drills it’s a real pain. The playability of the Wilson ball is superior as usual when compared to other brands. But, the coloration.. it only works in wide open playing areas visually, and during the hotter months the balls can get destroyed quickly if you’re not monitoring the PSI.
After about 5 months of moderate use the stitching started to show. It was so obvious and various people would point it out to me. When I contacted customer service about how to get this fixed they said it required a receipt of purchase for warranty. I was simply asking how to get it fixed not for warranty. Instead of responding to me, I was ignored. We usually have 5+ balls in rotation while playing.Others players who have the same ball are starting to see stitching issues with theirs too… again, after a few months of use. Don’t expect a good quality ball or even satisfactory customer service for $75. Would not recommend!
