Pros: Really happy with the ease of use in fixing a not broken machine. Gamers Outlet is great, and the price was amazing. Thank you!Cons: The bloated spyware called Windows 11 is awful. Brand new gaming machines with the highest-end of hardware struggle while idling because of the preposterous amount of background tasks running and sending data to data collectors without your knowledge or approval.I think this dressed up malware shows a grim roadmap of our future where companies can legally invade your privacy, all in an effort to serve you better advertising. If the federal government needs a probable cause and a warrant to install a keystroke logger on your machine, then it shouldn't even be an option for corporations.Really great price though.

After 30 years of Windows, I'm Buying Apple

If the term "fanboy" can be described as a life, mine would be for Microsoft. I'm from the generation that saw the invention of the PC. I saw Microsoft grow from nothing into what it is today. I stood by and dutifully purchased every iteration of Windows from 2.01 to Windows 11. I praised 3.0, loved Windows 95, endured Millennium Edition and Vista and 7 and 8 ... as well as every version of Office to coincide. And now, in 2024, that run has come to an end. Microsoft has devolved into something that is more akin to Meta than an actual software/business/tech company. The way Windows 11 collects, disseminates and flat-out steals data is alarming. Microsoft has devolved into something that is more akin to Meta than an actual software/business/tech company. The way Windows 11 collects, disseminates and flat-out steals data is alarming. The direction they've gone with 365 subscriptions, mandatory account creations, intrusive programs like Edge and OneDrive, all add up to a terrifying customer experience. Combine that with non-existent customer support and products which no longer work properly by rote, and you have a seriously deteriorating customer base. But, the final blow, is the absolutely absurdly offensive price they're charging for these programs. $250 for Windows Pro? You can buy an entire laptop with Windows on it for that price. How can they possibly justify that? In reality, what they're doing is forcing good people to buy grey-market keys and pirated software because they literally can't afford an operating system for a computer build. Should the OS cost as much as an NVME SSD drive? It makes no sense. Further, the office suite which is largely unchanged in the past decade, is now a subscription? Why? It's simply not worth it. Office is so basic and so essential, it should be free at this point. There are too many free or low-cost alternatives. I haven't seen a company deliver such a dastardly blow to itself since America Online decided to stop allowing cancellations. Microsoft has made a massive misstep here, and as people begin to become aware of how their data is being stolen from them, corporations are not going to be able to continue to embrace this should-be-illegal method of capturing revenue. Shame on Microsoft. I'm buying an Apple computer for the first time in my life. Microsoft has finally jumped the shark.

Basically they're pretty new, are wholesalers and want their name out there - fair enough.I was also concerned that this was a one shot deal meaning that once activated, I'd have to do it all again should my hardware change.Nope.I not only activated Windows after receiving my key seconds after purchase, but Microsoft Activation also confirms that "Windows is activated with a digital license linked to your Microsoft account" which is exactly what I had before and so this should protect me from any hardware changes in future.Nice one SoftwareSupply - you just saved me a stupid amount of money.

The OS works pretty smoothly, certainly better than 7 or 10 in their early revisions, and it's certainly reasonably secure. That's the good bits. The start button menu is trash(akin to a mac clone), and the notifications tab is now linked to the clock/calendar in the task bar, no idea why. Everybody ignores the notifications right? Right clicking a folder/icon now requires 2 clicks to get to the part most people right click a folder/icon for. Also; note that Onedrive comes preinstalled and completely takes over your documents folder which is not mentioned anywhere during the installation, the files literally vanish from their standard "user" file tree. Onedrive immediately starts backing up your info/files to their cloud. My experience with this upgrade has been surprisingly terrible. The purchase was easy, although I probably didn’t pay enough attention to the non-refund or return policy.I bought the upgrade primarily for Bitlocker, which should come with all versions of Windows. $100 is a ridiculous ransom for this feature. I thought Bitlocker might be easier for my wife to use than the excellent, free, but quirky,Veracrypt, we’ve been using. Windows has taken to trashing Veracrypt’s boot loader with every monthly update - probably not an accident.I got the e-mail with the activation code fairly quickly, but it didn’t work. I kept getting a cryptic failure message with the following code: error 0x80070490. A search revealed that I wasn’t alone, but the various solutions offered online didn’t help me. It was two days of frustration. We have two identical 2 year old HP Spectre 360s, bought from Best Buy, with Windows 11 Home. We have a fair amount of data and installed software, and are always up-to-date on our updates. Something was obviously blocking the Pro update, but the error message was no help, and Best Buy’s phone robots were no help either. I’ve been fairly involved with computers for almost 40 years, and I find Windows 11 to be an abomination. The end of this story is that I downloaded an ISO installer for Windows 11 (not Pro) from Microsoft, because that format allowed me to save my files and apps, while re-installing Windows. It took quite a while, but it apparently fixed the problem, since the upgrade worked after that, and it didn’t trash my personal files and programs.Encrypting my 2 TB drive took quite a while. I was unpleasantly surprised to find that encrypting my OS partition didn’t offer the option for a start-up Bitlocker password, and the installation was left wide open except for the Windows login. The process for installing a start-up password was not obvious and far too complicated for most casual users, and I don’t know why it’s not automated. I found instructions online. My data partition was much easier, offering a password option, and an auto-unlock option as well. I did get a start-up password to work on my C partition, but it wasn’t a trivial or easy process.Encrypting external drives also ran into trouble with a cryptic conflict error message. The solution for that wasn't obvious either, and I found both good and bad info online. The resolution for the startup password and external drive problems involved unfamiliar settings using the Group Policy Editor and some CMD commands.None of this was fun, and I curse Microsoft for their crappy, designed by committee, user unfriendly software. When finally set up properly, Bitlocker works well, and is painless for my wife to use. The rest of Pro offers no great advantage for us.

I only had Windows crash twice in 20 years twice! Since I have had Windows 11 Pro, my computer has crashed more than 40 times in the ads they say it is the greatest gaming operating system of all time which is an enormous lie, considering it conflicts with easy anti-cheat giving a blue screen of death funny how the world’s greatest operating system can’t play the world’s best game. to make matters worse I am a Fortnite creator a new job that I take extremely seriously as I spend 10 to 15 hours a day creating maps making live streams, editing videos and on top of that I go to school full-time for digital editing and creating digital artwork, I had to drop out last semester because I was unable to get my computer to function. You know why because windows update destroyed my operating system from the inside out it erased all of my homework some days I’d spend 15 hours just trying to reinstall the operating system because no one at windows are at Microsoft had informed me that it was an impossibility. Usually when I asked for help, their first response would be something like this” oh well, you must not have a compatible system. Your computer must not be compatible.” not only is that untrue, but is it extremely dismissive and rude considering that at the time last year when I got my computer I had one of the most powerful processors at the time for a desktop computer, the amd ryzen 9 7950x with a 4070 TI super. Every single component that I used to build my computer I’m meticulously studied and learned how to use before I decided to put it together and a lot of the components I picked were picked specifically because of what windows and Microsoft said would be necessary in order to use Windows 11 Pro. Well now as I sit here writing this angrily, I am listening to the sound of a dead computer Windows 11 Pro has destroyed the drivers in my GPU at times almost melted my GPU driving the temperature up to 98°C.! before the update my GPU temperatures never went above 40°C. My processor never went above 45°C because I took the time to study and learn how to tweak my UEFI bios so it not to damage my components, but do you know who did not study?the people at Microsoft? That’s who. They belligerently put out a substandard product with Lil. Disregard for the people that will be using it people that need these computers and this technology that they crammed on our throats and advertising and everywhere we look and tell us how badly we need it only to have it not work and be dismissive and rude when we ask for help provide little to no help and tell us we are SOL. DO NOT BUY THIS OS!
