Winsor & Newton Brushmarker 6 Mid Tones Set
BrushMarker is available in 72 colours, ranging from subtle pastels to bold vibrant hues. Adding versatility to your drawing and illustration practise, a twin-tipped marker featuring a broad nib and a highly durable brush nib providing the ultimate in precise and flexible line control. The bullet shaped brush nib is a very versatile nib that enables the user to create a variety of strokes. The broad nib has a chisel shape and is great for quick visuals and filling in larger areas. BrushMarker ink is alcohol based and colours are formulated using the finest professional quality dyes. It's this formulation that makes the colour apply evenly, giving the user supremely smooth, consistent coverage. With BrushMarkers, it's easy to achieve a flawless 'print-quality' finish when colouring by hand. For the best results, use BrushMarker in conjunction with Winsor & Newton Bleedproof Paper. Although lightweight at just 75gsm, it has been specially formulated to prevent marker ink from bleeding. It's also very white and smooth and will make your colours look rich and vibrant with high levels of contrast. When not using Bleedproof Marker Paper, it is best to use a heavyweight paper or card stock with a smooth coated surface. It's possible to overlay different BrushMarker colours to produce new colours and depending on how wet the ink is, smooth transitions can be achieved. A special colourless BrushMarker Blender is part of the range which can be used to soften and merge colours together.

This is I believe my 4th set of Promarkers! I really enjoy using Promarkers for sketches and illustration, and I find them very comfortable to hold with great saturation and longevity. With the colour selection in this pack, if you're into drawing people or realistic landscapes you might be better off if you already have a few other colours as I'm not sure this colour set is the best for that. However if you want to draw very bright stylised pieces then these might be perfect! Definitely swatch them before drawing anything, e.g. the Mulberry (V865) colour was way, WAY more searingly bright than it appears on the label (practically neon). The Ruby (R455) seems extremely similar to Promarker Crimson (R445, not in this set) though they might look different on ... MoreThis is I believe my 4th set of Promarkers! I was really happy to get backup spares for Dusky Pink (O518) which I use a lot for skin shadows on lighter skin tones and Orchid (V628) which is just such a lovely lilac-ish colour that works well for both realistic and stylised drawings. The blender pen is also handy if you want paler colours than the ones in the markers, or if you want to mix two (or more) colours together before putting them on paper - just scribble your colours on a plastic yoghurt pot lid or something and pick them up with the blender to put on the paper!Overall I'm glad I got this set and scored some nice new colours to extend my collection - while I did wait for the half-price sale, I definitely jumped to buy them!

Decent enough, layer well and the brush nib is much smoother than the chisel end. The brush nib blends much better than the usual bullet nib. What stops it from being 5 stars is that its not refillable. Otherwise it'd be a fair rival to copic sketch/ciao markers. Used on Winsor and Newton Promarker bleed proof pad.

I wanted to try these type of markers for a while. Managed to bag them whilst on half price. So far I love them. Copic is obviously the leading brand on alcohol based markers at the moment but I reckon the Windsor and Newton markers are top rate. Both fine and highlighter style tips. I've enjoyed using these. Great choice of colours.

I really like how the darker colors bleed into the lighter ones to give a nice blended finish. I have just started using these markers for a Domestika course that teaches expressive architectural sketching. The marker will show through the back of the paper but does not bleed on to the next sheet behind it. I have uploaded a sample of a practice sheet that I have colored for the course to give an idea of the finish.
I love these markers. I ended up going back and buying the two other sets that were available in store. The colours blend together nicely, don't leave streaks like other markers, and each set comes with a blending pen. Colours are vivid and bright and well-reflected on each pen's label. However, the original price of £22 per pack is a lot, although worth it compared to other products and their prices. The pens also go through paper very easily so you need a bit of extra paper behind so they don't mark whatever surface you're on. I would absolutely recommend these, they give a lovely water colour-like effect and come in gorgeous colours.
An absolute unit of a set. I really like Promarkers, the ink flow is reliable and this helps my confidence working on larger pieces. Nibs are nice and firm, hoping the stay that way. The colour range in this set is superb. I hope W&N decide to issue the rest of the colour range as an extended edition Pt 2.
I make complex 18th-century wooden sailing ship models and display them in waterline dioramas. Color subtlety and accuracy for all aspects of my modelmaking is very important. I use various materials to achieve the hues that various woods present. Other than acrylic paint, these options include shoe dyes (Fiebings), conventional turpentine stains available at home improvement stores and alcohol-based Winsor & Newton Promarkers. The small tips are very advantageous and the broad selection of colors gets me to my desired renditions. The alcohol base is absorbed into the wood grain; one can easily add additional color "passes," if desired.
I'm very disappointed. The colors are great, the markers feel great. But there is one aspect that makes them unusable for me. They drip. I make fine art, not rough sketches, so my work is detail focused. The second color that I pulled out of this box to use, the second one that I tried, dripped multiple spots of ink out of the tip as I was lifting it up from the paper. They splattered across about an inch of space. This was very disappointing because otherwise, these have a lot going from them. But they are useless for me.#sweepstakes
I love these brush markers. They are fluid and the colors are beautiful. I use them for more graphic designs, and I'm experimenting with them! I bought five individual colors that were not in the box of 48, and I'm primarily using them for making original art on W&N heavy marker paper that I then scan and work on in Photoshop to make greeting cards. I needed a medium to work in that I can work on when I have time, rather than watercolor paint that you can't leave for hours at a time. The W&N quality is excellent.
Pros: markers are very solid, wide chisel tip very versatile and finer tip really great to use. Caps have a cylindrical and flared design to visually designate broad/fine points which is a useful feature as well. Ink flow is smooth and easily workable to get nice gradations.Cons: Large one is the "neutral/cool" gray tone is actually quite warm and not cool at all. Second is they appear to only come in 5 gray gradients (10%, 20%, 30%, 40%, 50%, then black) - so the range is much more limited compared to other brands. Conclusion: If you designate them "Warm" and don't mind the limited range, these are great markers.
