Winsor & Newton Cotman W/C 8ml Gamboge Hue

$9.60

(4,444 reviews)

The Cotman Watercolour range offers a more uniform consistency compared to the Artists' Watercolour range, making it easier for beginners to use without needing to understand the nuances of each individual pigment. Recently reformulated, Gamboge Hue is a warm yellow pigment resembling genuine Gamboge. Made from tree resin, genuine Gamboge was brought to Europe in 1603 and was believed to carry medicinal cures, but was found to have toxic properties. Additionally, the Cotman Watercolour range corresponds with the Winsor & Newton Artists' Watercolour range. For example, Burnt Sienna has the same hue in both ranges, allowing artists to seamlessly mix colours from both with minimal technique adjustments. Series 1.

Cotman Watercolor Paints

I’ve been using Cotman watercolors for about 30 years. Although they are rated as student grade vs professional grade they are very good paints. I find them just as vibrant as the pro brands and they hold up very well. My Cotman paintings from the early 90s are still bright and I have noticed no fading. In my opinion the Cotman brand watercolor paints are a very good value.

I think this line of watercolors is a great intro to learning watercolors and very affordable. I like this gold color for the slight shimmer and I use it to mix my peaches, pinks and taupe colors to give it a little something extra. Good product for the price point. But if you're looking for a more pigmented standout color you probably wouldn't pick this one.

This was my first step into tube watercolor paints and I am loving the results. I've heard some people say they have trouble rewetting cotman watercolors but I haven't had any issues so far. I appreciate that even though many are mixed-pigment hues, there are plenty of single lightfast pigment paints in the collection. Are all the colors necessary for a professional? No, but the variety is so much fun.#sweepstakes

Great watercolors
16 April 2023

These watercolors are great for students and more experienced artists. I put mine in pans to dry, and they reactivate beautifully! Most have lightfast ratings that are pretty good. You could easily pick out some ones that have been rated and use these in professional work without worrying. Plus, all pigment info is also listed on every tube. Theyre a good price compared to other paint in the same category. Cottman watercolor is a permanent brand in my watercolor pallet.

Love this line
9 November 2023

I had never used WN paints before. I bought about 20 tubes of differing colors, admittedly more than I absolutely need. But I wanted to test a variety of hues. I am very pleased with these. Presumably the pro line is better, but I'm more than happy with the Cotman line. Beautiful colors. Rich, vibrant. I'm sold! Want to give Blick cudos for their careful packing and good service.

Quality over quantity.

I love Windsor and Newton paints but I have to admit that the Cotman student grade paint is no comparison to the professional grade paint. The price difference is substantial but the quality is without compare. I recently purchased the Cotman yellow watercolor paint and found it much thinner in quality of color than the straight Windsor and Newton higher quality yellow I had previously bought. I teach painting classes and buy supplies regularly and refer my students to buy paints and supplies from Michael's store. It pays to spend more on quality when you can afford it. Most times I can't afford to spend on the professional brands but when I do I really notice the difference. Shopping here is a Delight
22 May 2024

I love Michael’s for my art products. There is such a variety and they carry professional grade products too. I was delighted to find that out as I prefer a store experience more than shopping online. The reward points and coupons are great too. I always walk around the entire store because I never know what I might find for myself or others

Trusted quality
27 August 2023

WN Cotman are trusted quality student grade watercolor paints. Pigment, binder, and lightfast information is on each tube, complete information is also on their website. Available in sets or open stock. This Chinese White (PW5) is a middle ground in transparency/opaqueness. Ones made from PW4 (zinc) are more transparent. If you want something more opaque, look for a titanium white (PW6). This is still a nice budget mixing white for pastels when you want to introduce some limited opacity.

quality water color paint

Love the brand only problem is that you have to be careful when opening it. It can get messy. The paint just pushes out on its own from the pressure buildup or the oil inside it has separated and is pushing out first causing you to waist it. therefore, I suggest shaking it violently before opening ...this goes for all the tube paints in this brand and others as well. worth the price
