Winsor & Newton Series 7 Miniature Sable Brush - Size 2
Winsor & Newton Series 7 Miniature Kolinsky Sable Brushes are made to the same high standard as Series 7 Kolinsky Sable Brushes, however they differ in design. The Miniature Kolinsky Sable Brushes have a fine pointed tip with an extra small belly & bristle length. This makes them perfect for miniature painting or photographic retouching as they give the artist extra control. The brushes are also suitable for fine detail work but they carry less paint in the belly than the standard Series 7 Kolinsky Sable Brushes. Winsor & Newton Series 7 brushes are made from the finest quality Kolinsky sable hair, secured in a black polished handle by a seamless, rust-proof ferrule. The brush point stays pointed during use with the excellent spring for control, proving the high quality of the brush design. Cleaning: Wipe clean with a lint free cloth and rinse under running water. Using mild soap and cool water, swirl the soapy brush in the palm of your hand and rinse. Repeat until water runs clear. Squeeze or shake off excess water, then gently reshape the bristles and leave to dry.

I use these for watercolor painting. When they first arrived I tried them out and although they were pretty good, they didn't have the quality (perfect point when wet, holds a lot of water and paint, creates the finest of details) that I've come to expect with Winsor & Newton Series 7 Sable Brushes. I emailed Blick's Customer Service and they got back to me immediately. They made it possible to replace the brushes I bought with new ones (thank you, Customer Service!). The new ones have lived up to my high expectations of Winsor & Newton brushes. I'm happy now. They are pricey, but they perform better than most watercolor brushes. After all, Winsor& Newton has a very good reputation, and so does Blick's Customer Service.

The Winsor & Newton Series 7 Size 1 & 0 Brushes (Regular, not Miniature) are fantastic! Getting back into miniature painting (Warhammer 40k), I started using synthetic brushes to paint my minis and they worked well for medium to large details. I eventually ran into the trouble of painting finer details (even with size 4/0, 10/0 brushes. Control of paint flow became an issue too.I began researching online, for a brush that would talk my painting into the next level. Blending became very much easier (I really want to emphasize this). Finer details were not a problem with these brushes (I can paint eyes easily on my minis with the size 1 brush as the tip is sharply amazing, something I couldn't effectively do even with my 4/0 or 10/0 synthetic brushes)!I highly recommend the Winsor & Newton Series 7 for those who want to step up their game on painting their minis! Also! A note on their customer service. Blick's online customer support (e-mail) were amazing. They helped resolved a slight shipping hiccup patiently & effectively!

Brushes splayed after first use and worse by the third use. For reference, I'm painting small figures, delicate work, and I baby my brushes by constant rinsing and always using The Masters brush cleaner and preserver to wash and condition.I might have to go back to Raphael after this.I've had three koliksky brushes now, two Raphael 8404s and an old but unused Windsor Newton size 1. Unfortunately, this one has not held up as well as any of those. For this price, the expectation is for the brush to be the best and last at least a year.

I started oil painting several years ago after not painting since college 45 years ago. I had an old series 7 #2 from that vintage and my the first new painting I did entirely with this brush. I was so happy with it that I ordered a set. I did not call it "best in its category" because I have not even tried another brand! But for some comparison, I gave a friend who has been oil painting for many years a set for her birthday and her response was "I am in brush bliss!" (thus the title). A word to those who cannot keep a point. It is very important to clean these very gently and immediately after using!!! I do not let the sun set on a dirty brush. (the only brush I had that lost its point lost it after not cleaning it for 24 hrs.) My first Series 7 brush (but not my first Sable brush). I bought the size 4.The first issue I have is that the protective cover that came on the brush was not properly placed and pushed about 5 hairs out. I am thinking this caused permanent damage. (I am not factoring this in to my rating because accidents happen, and as long as it isn't the norm, I can forgive the manufacturer).Besides the 5 wonky hairs, the overall brush just doesn't hold shape well at all. It holds water nicely, has a nice bounce, but I find the point to be almost impossible to keep.... which is crazy since it is such a small brush. It acts more like an old abused brush with broken hairs.I MUCH prefer the Blick Master stroke. And the overall finish of the Masterstroke feels more lux.
I am getting more hard-core into watercolors, and decided I wanted to buy some brushes they would hopefully last. And boy did these not disappoint! They hold SO much water in them, despite being so small. On one hand, I really love that. However, sometimes they absorb so much water (and so quickly, I might add), that they loose their point. This is of course solved by simply brushing out some of the water, though. The application with these is so smooth as well. I highly reccomend.#sweepstakes
I was very disappointed in these brushes. I bought 3 and sent 2 of them back. The size 0 was fine, but the others would not hold a point. Blick was great about replacing those 2, but both of those had the same problem. I think the lot was defective because I know other people who love these and have not had that problem. I returned them both for a refund this time.
For traditional B&W film photographers, the art of making a fine print is the culmination of the process. We use a small brush to eliminate white spots on the print caused by dust trapped in the emulsion or lying on the negative. W&N brushes remain the gold standard for this extremely precise work. Fine pointing is critical and the brush size is typically 0 to 3/0.
I purchased 3 Winsor & Newton Series 7 brushes as an upgrade to the DaVinci brushes I currently use. Very disappointed. The major issue is they immediately lost their points and developed "swallow tails", and cleaning them did not fix it. A minor issue is they have far fewer bristles in each size, requiring going back to the paint more often and a tendency for the paint to dry on the brush. Not worth the money
I have been using Series 7 for over 23 years. When I received my size 7 to replace my decades old one, I was shocked. The brush would not maintain a point at all. Completely splaying allowing for no control of the tip. I reached out to WN directly and was told that they have changed their support from Russian kolinsky to an inferior asiatic breed. Unfortunately, the days of amazing brushes from the series 7 are long gone. Sad day, hopefully they can get their old supplier back!
