Winsor & Newton Winton 200ml Oil Colour - Cadmium Orange Hue

(4,350 reviews)

Following the popularity of acrylic colours, which dry in 10-20 minutes, oil painters began requesting a product which dried faster than traditional oils. Winsor & Newton responded in 1976 by developing a range of alkyd colours, which has today become Griffin Alkyd Fast Drying Oil Colour. Alkyds are made from a naturally derived vegetable oil that is polymerized. The result is a resin-like product that, when mixed with a solvent, is very similar to traditional linseed oil. The colours remain workable for 4 to 8 hours and are touch dry in 18 to 24. Consistent drying times across the range removes the usual restrictions that come with conventional oils, making it easier to overpaint, regardless of the colour upon the surface. Made from high-quality pigments, Winton Oil Colours are durable, lightfast and permanent. Delivering consistent colour every time, their ready-to-use formulation in means you can effortlessly work at any scale. Increasing the choice and range with eight new accessible colours, your palette can be broader than ever. Explore the enhanced spectrum for yourself. Winton Oil Colour's pigment load is higher than many artists’ ranges. Exceptional for general use and ideal for working in large volume at the highest level. The Winton range has a more uniform consistency than Artists' Oil Colour and is a slightly stiffer paint. It offers excellent retention of brush and palette knife strokes. Wherever possible, the most permanent pigments have been selected for use with the Winton range. The formulation and manufacturing process ensure that the product will remain stable within the tube as well as offer the most permanent paint film possible.

Windsor Newton oil paints offer vibrant pigments, rich textures, and blendability. They're easily thinned with some liquin or oil, and they're super simple to work with. Use liquin to quicken drying time and oil to prolongue it. I prefer the "hues" for more transparent washes over textures. They spread nicely without muddying details. Although, lighter colors can wash out black. The metallic packaging is durable yet flexible enough to get every last drop of paint. Really, really love this brand.

The Winsor Newton oil paint products I have used mix well for color blending and spread under the palette knife or brush for the desirable effects as I work over my canvas. The colors do not bleed or become patchy. By comparison with other products I have used, there is less unwanted odor. The paint loads well for thin or thick application. The 200 ml tube is a great money value over smaller tube quantities. Michaels' advantageous rewards & coupons not only make it more affordable for my purchase power, with appreciation that the store is stocked in a way that offers wide and adequate selection.

Cerulean blue, in conjunction with ultramarine blue, represent both the warm and cool temperatures in most of my paintings. They both also mix well with Winsor Newton's soft mixing white for holding those warm and cool moments. It's interesting how luminosity, when used naturally in the theme of your painting, can intensify the emotions. Cerulean blue is a must in a painting wanting emotion. Windsor and Newton have created an exceptional product.

Best Oil Paint EVER!
24 June 2023

I was first introduced to oil painting during my Painting 1 class this semester. The university provided us with basic painting supplies from Blick. Due to my lack of experience with oil paint, I thought the basic student paints we were given, worked well. However once I started using the Windsor & Newton brand, my painting skills increased significantly. I realized that I wasn’t getting the effects I wanted with my paintings due to the quality of the cheaper Blick paint. But the Windsor & Newton paint is so smooth and creamy. It also dilutes easily with safflower oil. I would definitely recommend purchasing this paint.

Windsor and Newton is the finest oil paints for professional artists. Each tube is generously filled with the true to color pigment. This shade of pthalo blue is incredible even in the smallest of applications, a little goes a long way. I highly recommend this company of paints for beginners all the way to active professionals - they do not discriminate! Enjoy the journey of oil paints with Windsor and newton.

The cobalt blue oil color is just as vibrant as it back in the 1970s
7 September 2024

I took a decade off from painting and finally have come back to doing what I am best at. This color from windsor and newton is my second favorite blue from this company. Windsor blue is my favorite but they stopped making that in the late 1970s early 1980s. Therefor this is my most used blue in my pieces. Highly suggest you try it out.

Winsor & Newton's Winton Oil Colour in the 37mL tube size offers a fantastic selection of vibrant colors with smooth consistency. The high pigment load provides excellent coverage and allows for intricate details. The paint dries at a convenient pace for layering and blending, and it maintains its vibrancy over time. Overall, it's a top choice for artists of all levels due to its quality, versatility, and affordability.

I love the Winton oil paints. It is the only brand of paint I buy because Ireally like the quality and strengthof the pigments and the oil does not separate from the color as some will over time.I chose Sap Green the last I shopped at Opus because I like the different shades and tints it allows me to accomplish for my various projects.

Very happy with the correct items delivered efficiently. The only thing I would love to see improved is to ship goods without plastic packaging. Other art suppliers are achieving this very well in secure recycled cardboard boxes and there are great alternatives for biodegradable/compostable cushioning and protection available now which I would love to see used by all businesses. We all need to make an effort. Thanks for your great service and quality products
