Wirra Wirra Church Block Cabernet Sauvignon Shiraz Merlot 750ml

(36 reviews)

Decanter 2022 Bronze medal. 92 points from James Suckling. Matthew Jukes top 100 wines.Church Block was the first wine the late Greg Trott produced under the Wirra Wirra label back in 1972. He took the name from one of the original vineyards, which runs next to the small Bethany Church (est. 1854) across the road from Wirra Wirra's century old ironstone cellars. Over four decades, the Church Block label has become an Australian favourite, consistently offering a smooth, soft red wine that balances the complexity sought by aficionados, with the approachability desired by those seeking pure drinking pleasure. The selection of Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz and Merlot is another masterful blend. Matured in 70% French oak and 30% American oak barrels for 18 months, it is rich in fruit to enjoy in its youth, but with the structure to develop for a decade under careful cellaring.

Always grab some if it is on special as that makes it great value. Very easy to consume before you realise you forgot to offer some to your better half......Nice on the nose, easy down

Not often I pour wine down the plug hole...but this wine was nasty. Sharp, heavy, chemically and strong tanin flavour. Tasted like cheap nasty plonk.

Full bodied and absolutely delicious red wine

One of the best red wines I've tasted for a long time. It's rich in colour, full bodied and no bitter after taste. I loved it so much, I've ordered five bottles this week. A great start to the Easter holidays!

If I could give this wine 10 stars I would! Though mostly a white wine girl, I could drink this without a problem. It isn’t a swigger but one to be savoured. Full, fruity, no bitterness with long lasting flavours, what’s not to like? I must admit to a little bias though as I have been lucky enough to visit the vineyard and am currently enjoying the end result of the grapes that were on the vine then.

New 2018 vintage a big disappointment
24 February 2021

This used to be one of my go to wines - thoroughly deserving a 5 star review. But the new 2018 vintage is just not what it used to be - oddly herbal length and just not nice. Guess that's not unusual for varying vintages, though less common with blends of course. I'll try it again incase it was just that bottle, or maybe it's my taste buds post Covid (my BF agreed it had changed, but then he's very supportive like that...) Anyhow, a very disappointed Tuesday night was had all around

Off-flavoured. Not worth drinking

With all of the great reviews, I thought this wine would become a firm favourite on my shelf. but nothing could be further from the truth. The smell is almost like sweaty socks and the taste is almost puckering. Even after decanting the wine, I couldn't enjoy it.

This is the first Bottle of Red I ever tried 30 years Ago. 30 years on, I always have a bottle in my wine rack. Rich full bodied, wonderful long fruit finish. A great quality wine at a great price. Highly recommend trying.

Bought two of these and served it room temperature, allowed it to breathe etc etcJust doesn’t cut the mustard.Tried it due to the rave reviews. Better wines out there at half the price.

Smooth Operator

Was never a big fan of red blends, as they tend to be too heavy. But this Cabernet, Shiraz, Merlot blend has to be one of the smoothest wines for the price. Has a great complex flavour, leaving you wanting more! Highly recommend, even better when it's on special!

I do not think you can by a better bottle of wine for the money - take the chill off it and use a proper wine pourer to airate it ,Absolutely gorgeous
