Most hiking boots are made for men, then sized for women. Not Terradora Flex. Keen started with a fit that follows the natural contours of your foot and then gave it the grip, cushioning, and protection you need to soak up extra trail miles with friends. Keen finished things off by adding KEEN BELLOWS.FLEX technology to the forefoot, so every step feels easier. In other words, it's a boot that can keep up with you, trailhead to trailhead. KEEN.DRYA waterproof, breathable membrane that lets vapour out without letting water in. Perspiration and moisture naturally produced by the foot are able to escape, while at the same time keeping the wet out and the feet dry. ECO anti-odourThe insoles are infused with probiotic technology that naturally breaks down odour in sweat without heavy metals or hazardous chemicals.

I bought the boots after my 3rd serious ankle sprain to provide better ankle support for walking. Boots are comfy out of the box, fit closely to my foot, and have more cushioning than most boots. I always replace the insoles with high arch support insoles, and the new, huger volume insoles fit well in the boot. Only drawback is the shoe laces are a little thin and a bit hard to tie and keep tight.

I broke these in on several short hikes. The waterproof features work well, but they seem to run small. When I took them on my first 10 mile hike, wearing sock liners and thick comfy wool hiking socks, I had 5 blisters and really sore feet. The bottoms of my feet felt bruised. I asked if I could exchange them for a larger size and was told that it was past the 30 day return period, so be forewarned that exchanges are considered the same as returns and will not be granted past 30 days.

The Terradora Flex boots are the first I have bought from Keen. I like the fact that they are more like high-top sneakers - lightweight and flexible - rather than heavy, stiff traditional boots, while providing greater stability than sneakers (which is what I'm looking for). However...1) I found these boots to run large. I usually wear a size 10, including Keen shoes. The 10s I originally bought were too large in width (and I have wide feet, plus orthotic insoles) and too long. I returned them and re-ordered a pair of size 9.5s (and had to pay for shipping again).2) The laces that are provided are too long for the boots, and they are like trying to tie stretchy, slippery dental floss. I have purchased boot laces elsewhere to replace the originals.3) Each boot has ... MoreThe Terradora Flex boots are the first I have bought from Keen. The stitching of the left boot, right side piece is very stiff and scratches my ankle until it becomes painful. Wearing a band-aid on the spot provides a little cushion, but not much. I am considering removing that piece if I can, but I really don't want to alter the boot's structure, especially since I am no seamstress.Once I found the correct size, I found that I do like the boots overall. Hopefully a couple of tweaks will make them better for me.

I'm happy to have these new lightweight hiking boots, and that they're flexible and waterproof! The laces are great, no need to double-knot. What I'm not happy with is the structure of the front of the boot. It's different from other Keens I've owned. It feels like it's trying to correct my foot, or something like that, so that my foot will point forward. It makes it fit more tightly than expected. I've loosened the laces on the top of the boot, and have worn them several times this week. I hope to get used to them soon.
I have wide flat feet and these fit really good. Lightweight. Haven’t worn them on a super hot day nor in wet weather, can’t speak to breathability nor waterproofing. I wouldn’t say they run wide bc I would like a little more room in the toe box and where the lacing starts. No arch support which is great for me bc I’m flat footed. Laces are thin and stretchy, feels like they will wear fast on the metal hooks. Tons of flex, no pinching or hard creases on the toes or Achilles. My biggest problem and the only reason I’m returning them is the heal, both inside and outside. The outside rubber is rounded and the inside insert has extra cushion specifically at the heal. This combination makes every heal strike wobbly and throws my foot to the outside edge. Have you ever ... MoreI have wide flat feet and these fit really good. Lightweight. This combination makes every heal strike wobbly and throws my foot to the outside edge. Have you ever stood on a balance ball? That’s what this feels like on every step. It feel like I’m going to roll my ankle. I also can see the wear mark on the insert is on the outside. I’ve only worn these to the office on flat surfaces and a few stairs to try them out before hiking. If I’m wobbly and rolling my ankles on flat surfaces, I can only imagine me on a rocky path. I loved the original Terradoras and wish I could find 10 pairs to wear for the rest of my life.
I was looking for a lightweight mid-height boot that would give me a roomy toe box, ankle and arch support, and, most important, resilience walking up and down steep paved roads. The arch support is light, but I can add a hefty Keen orthotic if necessary. In every other respective the boot is perfect. And, as we head into what we're hoping is a wet coastal California winter, the boots are also water-proof.
Wouldn't normally leave a less than 5 star review but here's why:After many happy years with Keen Targhee III boots I bought a pair of Terradora II last year as in the shop they felt even more comfortable. However after a few months of wear I developed plantar fasciitis for the second time which appears to have been brought on by these boots. I did not want to believe it and couldn't understand why as they seemed great in every way, but could pinpoint no other reason. And after wearing my old targhees for a few weeks the problem eased, which would seem to back this up.I walk at least two hours with the dog daily on all terrains (but mainly road) and perhaps Terradoras are not cushioned enough for that? Or perhaps it was the change from many years in a different style? Or maybe it's just my feet!?! But just thought it worth leaving this comment in case it helps anyone who is also prone to the same thing, or if anyone can suggest why it could be. I can certainly recommend Targhees wholeheartedly as I never had any flare ups with them and shall be buying a new pair. The Terradoras will be relegated to backup/shorter walks.
I expected these to fit like my Terradora II boots, which were just slightly too short and slightly narrow when wearing hiking socks, so I ordered 1/2 size up in these. I should have known that no two styles would be sized reliably even when part of the same brand and series. They were way too large. Too long as well as so wide that when I tied them up the two sides were nearly touching. I was really surprised by the width because I usually need wide shoes. Also, they would not bend where they're supposed to at the creased rubber. Perhaps they would bend correctly with the correct size, and clearly many other people love these boots, but they're not for me. (Also, I'm peeved that Keen doesn't do exchanges, only returns within 30 days, which I missed.)
Targhee Boot vs Terradora Flex Boot (I use my boots for motorcycle riding, hiking & walking; I buy Womens 7-1/2 medium; I have a high instep)I started out with ther regular Terrador shoes (low tops) and have walked and hiked through 2 pairs of those and love them.So I never like regular motorcycle boots for women (terrible to walk in) so I started looking for a hiking boot that would function as a riding boot as well.Last year I bought the Targhee hiking boots (women 7-1/2). They weren't as comfortable as I had hoped - had trouble wearing them all day - and I ended up not liking the toe of the boot. The toe is 'fat' and barely fit under my shifter peg. I wore them for a year and finally decided to bite the bullet and look for a different style. This boot was super comfortable from day 1. I can wear them all day, no problem. The toe profile is much lower which I really like. The laces are thin & flat which was weird to me at first but I like them now. The only thing I haven't liked is I got into some East Texas red clay (did I say red!) and it stained the light gray stripe that is between the sole and the top part of the shoe. I tried Ecos cleaner, Clorox Clean-up and Cleaning strength vinegar but to no avail. I mean they are hiking boots so not to worried about it and it certainly didn't merit taking away a star. I was just suprised that the red clay left a light stain like that.I will remain a Keen customer always. Their shoes are tough and last longer than any other brand I have tried.
They come in a ladies 12!!! As a Size 11 with narrow heels, ladies hiking boots which fit are hard to find as you can't "go up half a size" as most lines recommend. I have a pair of the original Terradora hiking shoe, which is *almost* long enough, but my toes hit the front edge and always come home bruised if there are too many hills or too many miles. When I saw that these now come in a 12 I gave them a try - there's enough room for my own insert and even thick socks!! Strictly speaking, I probably only need a half-size bigger, but since this newer version runs slightly small, and it's easier to live with a little big than a little short, the 12 works comfortably. The Terradora II is a big improvement over its predecessor. This boot is still is essentially a beefed-up sneaker with moderate arch and ankle support and I'd prefer something stiffer for extended hikes or really rough terrain, but it is ideal for general trail walking which is what I wanted. I went with the leather, which is definitely waterproof, and the changed lug pattern has noticeably more traction than the original version; the thicker midsole is still flexible, but offers a lot more cushion from stones and bumps underfoot than the original design. The new insole is better too. The only thing I did prefer in the original Terradora was the bright colors - I don't really care since they'll wind up mud-colored after a few hikes anyway, but the berry and teal of the original line were fun :)PLEASE offer more of your boots in extended sizes, Keen!!!
