Whether you're training for a marathon or just enjoying a casual run, the HOKA Clifton 9 is the ideal all-round running shoe. Experience the ultimate performance of the Clifton 9 every day. Midsole To make your runs comfortable, HOKA has added a CMEVA midsole that provides plenty of cushioning and effective protection while running. By placing the transition zone behind the metatarsals, the Early stage Meta-Rocker geometry contributes to a quick transition of the feet. With a smoother stride and a faster transition to the forefoot, you will feel more explosive. Upper A mesh upper makes the Clifton 9 highly breathable and comfortable to wear while running. The shoe's pleated tongue is attached to the upper on both sides, preventing debris from entering the shoe and keeping the tongue centered. Outsole The outsole is made of durabrasion rubber and has a coarse profile for a lot of grip on every type of surface. Zones of abrasion rubber have been added to the heel and forefoot for improved durability. The geometry of the outsole is designed in such a way to guarantee inherent stability and an efficient stride. Order and discover the versatility of the HOKA Clifton 9 within a few days.

Mt first pair of Hoka's. My husband bought this brand because he needed more cushion & support for his knees(former basketball player & xc runner for many years) & his knees are shot. I bought the Clifton 8, 2 years ago, and just purchased my second pair of Clifton 9s in Nimbus cloud color way. I bought my first Clifton 9 last summer and have enjoyed the cushion and support for my medium width foot with narrow heels and high arches. I love that you can lace them to slip your foot into them without untying them. the Nimbus Cloud color way is such a beautiful light gray with silver accents and I like the contrast of the dark brown gum traction on the bottom. Loving that Hoka is giving more options in neutrals that still have interesting contrasting details that gives the shoe a beautiful, yet subtle aesthetic. Will go well with the different team colors when I support my college athlete in maroon and my high school athletes who wear purple. Asics give great cusion, like Hoka, but Hoka wins out with their color combos by a long shot. They are absolutely the most comfortable athletic Shoe I have ever worn, and they come in a large number color choices, and sizes, I wear Size 8.5 Wide. They are true to size. I love that they are shaped nicely (around the toe area for comfort). Previous brands of athletic shoes I've bought did not allow enough toe room. I have purchased two pairs. One for me , the other for my daughter. These are very comfortable super cushioning and a delight to wear. Something about me as the wearer: have a history of lower back problems including a lower disc bulge and have only just started to slow running in addition to strength training. This shoe has been amazing for short slow runs. I don’t wear them for long periods of time (like walking around in on a Saturday ) . I don’t strength train in these shoes. However, over the last couple months I have found that my feet tend to fall inwards when I run (like with someone who has overpronated feet). I don’t have overpronated feet so not sure what’s happening here. For my daughter , her biggest issue is they don’t last long (the soles were rubbed ... MoreI have purchased two pairs. I don’t have overpronated feet so not sure what’s happening here. For my daughter , her biggest issue is they don’t last long (the soles were rubbed smooth within 3months). However, she wore them more frequently (she’s a uni student) running from classes to class, she wore them on the treadmill and on other road runs and she has flat feet and tends to ‘drag her feet’ which I imagine contributed to the short shelf life of the shoe. They are expensive shoes, they are super comfortable but it will all depend on what you use them for, your own walking/running style and of course your dollar situation. Personally, I think that cost this much should last longer.
The star is not for the shoe but for Nordstrom. This order and another one I received, both Hoka, one from men's one from women's and both were either display models or previously worn. Not new like all others I've received. Over twenty years of buying shoes from Nordstrom, in Easton Town Center in OH and online, this was a first time to order in TX and both these were shipped from Nordstrom Domain and both were lacking quality and expectation of Nordstrom. One pair would be a mistake but both simply signals policy. Shared this with customer service rep at toll free number. No discount or mark down offered; simply said my options are to return with no guarantees that reorder replacement won't be the same condition. That was the Nordstrom quality of service I expected. Not the Nordstrom quality I have always known. Disappointed. At the price of these shoes, I would suggest buy direct from HOKA or REI.
To give you background, I bought these shoes because I have heard so much about their comfort. As a runner, I run between 6-8 miles every single day, and I need shoes that help my feet withstand the pounding on hard street concrete and pavement. I have had different brand name running shoes, but I have always had to wear extra padding because I have Morton’s neuroma in both feet (inflammation of nerves between toes), inside my shoes. Here is my review of Hoka Clifton 9, as a first time buyer.Pros: I feel that I am running on clouds. There’s plenty of padding in these shoes. This means, for the first time in years, I didn’t need to add orthotic padding inside the shoe. These are well made and steady. Your feet stay in shape as you walk and run. This means, for the first time in years, I didn’t need to add orthotic padding inside the shoe. These are well made and steady. Your feet stay in shape as you walk and run. They come up to the ankle which provide more support for the ankles too. They are really nice shoes and I wear them instead of my slip on even on my regular outing now. Because I run, my heels often hurt from the pounding on hard ground. These shoes provide cushioning for the heel too, so not only they’re functional but they take away the pain.Con: there’s only one and I am willing to overlook it because of the positives. The shoe is heavier than some other running shoes I have had. However, with all the padding, that’s expected. I have had lighter shoes but in retrospect, they didn’t provide enough comfort and cushion, hence why my heels and toes have paid the price.Would I buy these again? Absolutely yes! Also, I read some reviews saying the shoe runs big. For me, it is the opposite. I wear 7.5 however for these size 8 works better. It leaves just enough room for my toes to feel comfortable and not crushed against the toe box. I have the black and copper combo. Beautiful combo that works well for my exercise outfit. I saw the cantaloupe orange color at the store, and if that color scheme worked for me, I would’ve bought it. It was also very pretty. My only concern is weather related. I don’t think these can withstand rain- yes, I run on rainy days too , and I would hate to mess these up in rain and mud, so I have to think of a solution.
I am a huge fan of Hokas and have lived in my Hoka Clifton 8s for the past few years. I walk, run, work out, and travel in them. Because I wanted a pair in black to wear as I travel more for work post-covid, I bought a pair of Clifton 9s several months ago. In this new Clifton version the toe box to mid area (bunion area) is constricted by a new design and some additional restrictive stiching. No give at all. It makes my feet more sore to wear them after an hour than normal work pumps, which is something. They are too used for me to return them to REI (I had faith I could break them in…) I recently tried on my daughter's Mach 6s and they felt great - far more like the Clifton 8s. If you need some stretch or give in the toe area, and especially if you have bunions, do NOT buy the Clifton 9. And to Hoka, from your biggest fan, when you have a great product like Clifton 8, please do not tinker and make it so much worse!
I'm not sure what happened between the Clifton 8 and 9, but HOKA might want to reexamine their changes to this shoe. I've owned Clifton 6 through 8 (and multiple pairs of them) and absolutely loved them, but the changes made to the Clifton 9 are making me rethink this model altogether. First, HOKA is narrowing a WIDE shoe I wanted in a WIDE for a reason? I don't understand, I would get regular width if that was the case. WIDE means WIDE. Second, HOKA why do we keep making the length LONGER? Typically this style is the only running shoe I can purchase in my actual size (7.5W) but this model, I had over an inch of room from my toe to the end... I had to return the first pair I received and reorder a 7W. Third, the the upper and tongue areas are very built up and tighter compared to last season and it pushes into my Talus causing significant pain. Prior Cliftons had a smoother upper to tongue section that never rubbed. I can feel blisters and PT in my future from that change. The sole padding is still nice, but overall, I do not know what happened. I think I may have to find a different model or brand if this keeps up.
I'm an avid walker and after having issues with the Bondi 8s wearing out too quickly I thought I would try the Cliftons. The issue with the 8s was that the mesh broke away from the foam sole at about the 7 month mark. So, after liaising with TAF in store, I tried on the Cliftons. These 'seemed' to be more reinforced around the instep. A little hardier since they are billed as a walking/running shoe. At the 3-4 month mark I noticed the same thing happening. The shoe mesh breaking away from the sole at the instep. In my Bondi's this only happened in one shoe, the right, but this is now happening in the left as well. For a wide fit, that I was fitted for in store, this surely should not be happening. Yes. I do a lot of walking, but at this price point they should last longer. The sole of the shoe is a better quality than the foam on the Bondi 8s but having this instep issue again is ridiculous.
The HOKA Women's Clifton 9 Running Sneakers are comfortable with just great cushion for those who need it. I use this pair exclusively for running (training for my first marathon) and switch between these and a pair of Altra's. These provide the cushion I need to help with knee and hip pain that I typically experience. On days I train in these shoes, I don't experience pain and find that recovery is a lot quicker. They have a decently wide toe box, but I purchased them in a wide to allow more room, because I use these for longer runs. It's my first HOKA purchase, and so far they have been my favorite running shoes. I typically wear an 8.5w or a 9, and purchased in a 9w. I love the advancements HOKA has made in the appearance of their shoes, with some of the cushion layers color-matched to the shoe so they don't look so much like orthotics. I'd buy these again if they hold up to the standard 250 - 300 miles.
