found the movie to be intense with the tender emotions being very subtly portrayed. The characters have bold outlines, with kindness, acceptance and emotional strength in every scene. Personally, I could deeply relate to all the main characters, especially Via, who is always supportive of August when his parents can't support him- like on Halloween- and is forever-sacrificing for him. Apart from the character of August, those of his sister and mother are very intense. For Via, it doesn't appear much on the surface, but deep inside, when you observe, she is battling as much as August is, only in a different way. As for Julia Roberts and Owen Wilson? Who could have pulled off the roles better? And of course, the role of August is perfectly played out- every action ... Morefound the movie to be intense with the tender emotions being very subtly portrayed. I absolutely love this movie, it's so heartwarming and genuine. It is sad and will make you cry but it has a great storyline and makes you think differently about people because not everyone is the same. I would know because I had a child that had a genetic disorder but he unfortunately didn't survive 2 days but he was one of the best person in the world I could've ever met and brought joy to so many. People shouldn't be judged by what they look like nor by their disabilities but by who they are as a person and this movie teaches just that. I recommend it but without judgement

Outstanding book! Many life lessons for adults and adolescents! My grandsons have read it as 4th and 5th graders at school. I thoroughly enjoyed it as an audiobook. One of the many lessons that stuck with me - "Be kinder than is necessary". I have been asked if the book is sad. No, it humorous, and uplifting! I bought a second copy to share with friends.

A book that is warm-hearted, inspirational and unputdownable
2 June 2014

This book is one of my top ten for this year. It is heartwarming and inspirational as well as being a damn good read, even a page-turner! It is a simple story of a young boy's first two years at junior school' but what makes it extraordinary is that the boy has been born with severe disfigurement that makes people he meets recoil and try to avoid him. What makes it gripping and inspirational is his epic struggle to be treated as the normal kid he is inside. The story is told mainly from his point of view in a matter-of-fact way, but interspersed with chapters from the viewpoint of his sister, friends etc., thus showing how his affliction affects the people around him. Apparently, the author was inspired by a similarly-afflicted girl she met and has created a beautifully-written, sensitive, but unsentimental story that will make you consider your relationship with your problems and prejudices. I mislaid the (loaned) paperback version of the book when I was halfway through so I had to buy a replacement. I thought it money well-spent to buy the hardback as I'm sure I will go back to it.

Cleverly written with wit and heart
15 February 2018

The book is a compelling story written with emotion, 'wonder' and a straight forwardness which is easy for a young reader to follow. It's short chapters are also make it inspiring to read short chunks giving readers time to reflect and absorb the content. My 11 year son can relate to the characters and it's given rise to daily discussions of difference, family, growing up, school life and much more. It's a brilliantly inspiring and life affirming read. We have seen the film too but this did not put us off from enjoying the detail of a well written book!

Excellent book for readers of all ages.
1 January 2018

This was a Christmas gift to my 9 year old grandson. Truthfully, he is not a strong reader and a reluctant one. He prefers playing outdoors with his friends. His family saw the movie. He was telling me about the movie and then said, "I would like to read the book."We read the book together every day. He would bring it to me! I helped him with a few words, maybe one on each page. He would quickly turn the page to continue reading it. He has never before brought a book to me. It has been a struggle to get him to read even 10 minutes. This is a great story to share. I highly recommend it.

Exceptance and Genuine kindness

I don't know where to begin with this awe inspiring story! Auggie looks different from everyone else, very few people have what he does. Rather than be shameful, Auggie makes the best of his situation. Even when he got brought the down, he never stayed down for long. Every kid goes through teasing and embarrassment in school. This book emphasizes no matter what people think or say you control your actions and future.

Heartwarming Story
12 September 2019

Read this book out of curiosity, because of the hype of the book and the movie. Turned out to be one of my favorite books! It's a sweet heart warming story that grabs you from the beginning. I enjoyed it as an adult, but it is certainly geared for a younger audience (5th grade and up) and young readers would most likely enjoy the book as much as I did.

Profound, entertaining, brilliant is WONDER.

As a fifth grade teacher always wanting to put quality literature in the hands of my students, I found WONDER to be one of the best and most significant children's books written in the past fifteen years. The way Ms. Palacio handles a child's being different through not just his eyes, but the point of view of his family, friends and even his nemesis is compelling, insightful and brilliant. As an adult reader I was swept away from start to finish. The added "Julian" chapter took what was already an outstanding story to a profound place of history and familial legacy that tied up the whole humanity journey beyond my expectations. An A+ reading experience. In all my years as a teacher, my one bafflement upon finishing this most satisfying book?
