Great value celebration cake. We use to always buy cakes from the Cheesecake shop when we wanted a celebration cake. But since their prices went through the roof, we stopped. Now we turn to Woolworths for a celebration cake. Having previously tried the carrot cake we decided to try the black forest this time. While I think I still prefer the WW carrot cake, the black forest cake is certainly a good one. This cake has been thawed for your convenience. I think this is good for this cake as so long as you get one with a good best before date you will be sure that it is really fresh. The cake doesn't contain any kirsch which traditionally a black forest would have. But still a nice cake. It was moist and the cream layers were quite firm. The cream on top was nice and the cherry compote on top was delicious. The sides were covered in chocolate shards. The cake does look the part for a celebration. On the pack it says it serves 20 but I think 16 slices is more like it. Made in Australia from 54% Australian ingredients. Price was $29 for the 1. 1kg cake. Well worth the money for a celebration cake. I would purchase this one again.

Pretty good, needs more cherries. This freebie was well timed. I got this in time for a birthday. It usually costs $29 which I thought was a bit pricey. I wouldn't pay more than $20. Generally, the taste was pretty good. The chocolate shards were tasty, the sponge was light and fluffy but needed extra chocolate flavour but the cherries were lacking. It needed at least double the number of cherries that it had. The cream was tasty and well proportioned. Room for improvement but a good start

Great for serving large groups. This cake fed quite a few people, the cake was decorated nicely and appeared to have kept its shape and quality. There was water droplets inside the container when we purchased and assume it had been defrosted which im not sure if it impacted the cake but the sponge did appear a bit dry. I think we were expecting more of a texture like the woolworths chocolate cake but it was still okay just a bit dryer and grainier than i would have liked. Would buy again to see if it was just the one we tried was a little dry or whether that is how the cake is. Everyone seemed quite happy with the cake, this kids enjoyed it and was a wonderful suprise to have and enjoy over Christmas

It looks great, but..... I was too excited when I received this sample today, so I rushed out to pick it up. I was even more excited when I picked up this pretty looking cake. It is clear this cake was made a while ago and shipped out frozen, to be defrosted in store. Packaging: comes in a fully recycled plastic container that is child proof, as all of us child-like adults struggled to lift the lid . The cardboard label can also be recycled. However you will need to lift the cake out of the container as it is raised at the bottom, so it makes it hard to slice the cake and lift the slice up. Outcome: big on taste, big in size but the freshness let it down. Nothing that a scoop of ice cream couldn't solve

Nice size, tasty but needs more cherry flavour. This was a mark down purchase. $29 reduced to $5. 80. 2 star rating. No artificial colours or flavours. Made in Australia from at least 54% Australian ingredients. Recycle lid, tray, board and sleeve. Servings per pack: 20. This is a frozen and thawed product. Ingredients:The cake sits on a board inside a plastic container that is hard to open. Around the base there are plastic “ clips “ that hold the lid in place. There are slots for your fingers to lift the board out. Bottom right of photo showing a slot. Removed from plastic. The swirls of chantilly cream on top are soft and creamy. The layers of cream were creamy and moistened up the chocolate sponge. It would be nice to have a thin layer of cherry compote on top of the cream for flavour. This is 1/8 of the cake: This is a good size tasty cake, but it did not taste as sweet as a Black Forest cake that I have had before. This will be a purchase again.

Nice but.... At the first two woolies I tried the black Forrest cakes only had one day left on their use by sticker. I went to a third and managed to find one that had 5 days left. I took it in to work to share and it was well received. I liked it but I found it a little dry (even though it had 5 days left on the sticker. )The chocolate shards were rich and delicious. It had a very sweet lingering taste which was a little artificial. Overall it was a nice cake but i dont know I'd pay this price for it. I think other cakes in the range are a better buy.

Cake it Away. I'd never tried a Woolies cake before and must say I was skeptical reading the reviews of the cake being 'dry'I was actually impressed with the cake, it was light, not overly-sweet, the cream was 'not' fake-tasting. I actually enjoyed the cake and yes would purchase again. However, perhaps 'not' naming it a Black Forest cake! This is what would lead to disappointment... A true Black Forest should be laden with alcohol-soaked-cherries. This cake only had cherries for decoration on top, not throughout, I would've loved the cherries throughout the cake hence making a Black Forest 'style'. In my opinion, I'm ok without the boozy cherries as some use a terrible alcohol and ruin the cake, but if a smooth Kirsch is used it is traditional and takes it to the ... MoreCake it Away. Surprisingly not too bad. Was pleasantly surprised at the quality of this cake. Other reviews have said the cake is dry, it is a little yes. However, a fork full of cake includes the cherry compote easing the dryness of the cake creating the perfect moist mouthful. The cherries are perfectly tart with mild sweetness. The dark chocolate shaving thickness was also spot on, not too thick but not thin they break at the touch. 1. 1kg of cake is very large and kept our family of 12 happy with a decent slice each. The presentation beats a lot of the black forests from those large franchises, pop it out of the packaging and no one will know its from woolies if thats what youre going for. Beautiful dessert for family BBQ. This cake came along at the most opportune time. My father is suffering from fast developing dementia and his favourite cake is Black Forest. We had a family BBQ last night and we all enjoyed the cake. The Black Forest Gateau is part of the Woolworths "Frozen to Thaw" Bakery products. It is found in the chiller section of the bakery. The cake is on a silver cardboard base and then sat in a moulded plastic base with a lid to ensure it doesn't move around when being transported. A carboard wrapper is then over it all. The main issue I had with the packaging is how hard it was to get the plastic lid off the bottom. I wasn't able to open it and had to get someone else to do it for me. I picked it up at about 4pm and it was still very ... MoreBeautiful dessert for family BBQ. This cake came along at the most opportune time. I picked it up at about 4pm and it was still very cold. I left it out until we had dessert at about 8pm. The cake was still a little icy in the centre. As soon as the package was opened I could smell a lovely chocolate scent. It says on the packaging that it serves 20 however I could really not get much more than 14 pieces. However for $29 it was still great value serving 14 people. It is a chocolate cake layered with cream and the cherries were very tasty. The cream was nice and fresh. It does need to be refrigerated as it is made with fresh cream. It has a health star rating of 2 which is fine for a treat. I will be definitely purchasing this again as it is beautiful and is great value for money.

Delicious chocolate cake. I thought this was a delicious chocolate cake. OK it wasn’t a Black Forest cake, which would normally be soaked with a Cherry filling, but it was delicious just the same. A very good quality supermarket cake which serves 8 generous portions, so actually good value for the price. I suppose my generous portions could be halved making this a 16 serve cake (not really 20 serves). I served mine with masticated strawberries which helped make the cake moist and delicious. The choc alert crumb o the outside is a real treat.
