Woolworths Gherkins Sweet Spiced 500g

Sweet and Crisp. A good pickled gherkin, made in India while I'm more used to getting the Polish version. These were such good value at $1. 85 or a 500ml jar I thought I'd give them a try. I'm keen to try some different varieties now that the sugar factor has come up as a conversation piece.... You have to like the sweetness to enjoy these. I have sliced and chopped them for sandwiches and for adding to a cheese platter. All nice ways to use them. They maintained their advertised 'crunch' very well and the ingredient list is simple in nature (gherkins, sugar, water, vinegar, salt, "natural spice flavour" (being the only questionable ingredient suggesting an extraction of some type). Woolworths Gherkins Sweet Spiced 500g. Wow! Delicious and crispy! Loved the flavour of these crisp gherkins, whether cold or at room temperature. Seemed a little too sweet initially but couldn't stop at just one. Lol. The jar is almost empty! So good. The juice and gherkins (chopped finely), I used in a sauce that I concocted. So delicious... was meant to be for a falafel-like patty but also used it on a bun when making a KFC inspired burger. It was a huge hit!Most definitely buying again. Please do not stop making this product!

Repeat customer these are Yum! Used to buy them regularly and not sure why we stopped getting gherkins but I got some the other day and Yum ! Will be adding them to the shopping list more regularly again. The bottle I got didn't even last the week as everyone in our house loves these. They are a great price and great to add to salads, with cheese on crackers is our favourite way though!

On this note I started to wonder what I had been missing so I scrambled into store to claim my sample. These were a little hard to find but I eventually spied these on the bottom shelf. For the size of bottle and fantastic price this is a definite from me. If they were Aussie made I would have added a star. Great product. Be adventurous and give these gherkins a try at your next party.

Sweet crunchy gherkins. These are as described- sweet and crunchy. I’m not a huge fan of pickles but these were tasty and I liked the crunch. No artificial colours, flavours or preservatives. 2. 5 star health rating. Ingredients are 54% gherkin, sugar, water and vinegar with salt and spice. The jar is able to be recycled. They are made in India which is disappointing as I would prefer Australian grown products. overall these had a nice crunch but I found them a little too sweet and would not purchase again as they are made in India.

Sickly Sweet-kins. Wow. Talk about sweet. 28% sugar (drained). Unfortunately, its sickly sweet, and it also causes the gherkins to lose that characteristic 'crunch' and 'snap' you really want. The acidity is there, but its just not enough to balance the sweetness. Spice level was ok, it odd to be honest with the sweetness, but my wife found it to remind her of 'Christmas mince pies' for some reason, but ok, whatever. She hasn't had covid so its not like her tastebuds are off the charts. In any case, perhaps these could be diabetus gherkins, I looked at the comparison to another brand we already have, and its 30g serving was 0. 8g, while these is 8g, thats 10x the sugars! Delicious. Great taste, crisp, not too sweet with the spice just right. Enjoyed by family and friends who each commented very positively about this product. Thanks Woolies and will definitely buy again. 4 stars as was hard to find initially and I understand that not all products can be produced in Australia, and although I will buy again, I prefer to buy Australian made where possible. I note this product is made in India and I searched the Woolies website out of interest. There is information that Woolies takes their compliance with the product safety requirements of the Australian Consumer Law seriously. I may not have looked in the right place, however was unable to find any info on country of origin and food standards - eg GMO non GMO etc.

Very sweet pickle. Not sure if it is personal preference or if the recipe has recently changed, but I found these extremely sweet. The spice is quite noticeable, and the sugar overtook the usual 'pickle' flavour. Though these are good value for the price. Probably wouldn't recommend for a sandwich or burger, but might use the rest in a gherkin and onion dip.

Spiced gherkins with a kick. Wowza one little gherkin had me coughing and choking for several minutes. I opened the jar and they smelt so delicious, I put my fingers straight in the jar and grabbed one little fat one out. I must of breathed in, at the same time I took a bite and spiced juice went down the wrong hole big time!! I was choking and coughing, tears running down my face, hubby in the background laughing at me but don’t worry, I was ok. That little gherkin had a bit of spiced kick that I wasn’t ready for Sweeter then what we would normally purchase, I decided the rest would get diced up and put through a creamy potatoe salad and saved a few for a platter, that we took to a bday bbq. First bite was initially promising with a lovely loud, crispy crunch.... and that’s where the enjoyment ended. ‍♀️17 year old son’s first comment was ‘are these gingerbread gherkins?’‍♂️My husband had one bite and wasnt keen to eat any more without encouragement to finish it to give me a review. I ate one and sadly that’s where it will stop. We did not enjoy the flavour or spices - they did have a very strong ginger flavour. Ingredients says Natural spice flavour ???
