Woolworths Instant Chocolate Powdered Drink 400g

Standard hot chocolate. Considering the reasonably low price I thought this wasn't too bad. I generally prefer a higher cocoa content for hot chocolate, but this really wasn't terrible. Tried it as a hot chocolate, a chocolate milkshake and also to make a mocha coffee. And all were just okay. Certainly not the best, but you could do worse. The sugar content is high, but what do you expect when the product is basically sugar with some added cocoa? All hot chocolates are high in sugar, but the better ones might have a few % more cocoa. Would I buy again? Probably not. Made in Australia from (mostly) local ingredients. I'm guessing the cocoa is imported.

Tastes just like other cocoa drink, I like that it's also Rainforest Alliance Certified. Easy directions, I cheated and tipped in spoonfuls with cold milk, then zapped in microwave. So tasty, Mr 11 loves it and he sprinkles some over vanilla ice cream. He asked me if we can have this all the time, so that's high praise from a kid. On my shopping list from now on. Only one thing, when your child or any kids make their own drink. Make sure the lids on properly, I dropped this on the floor and fine choc powder went everywhere. 78% Australian yet packed in Germany. This was a delicious drink. Sweet and chocolatey, dissolved well and tasted smooth. I tried it in cold milk too. It took a lot of stirring but tasted fine. One thing puzzled me, although it was 78% Australain ingredients it was packed in Germany. This seems a bit crazy to send Australian ingredients to Germany to be put in a tin and then sent back to Australia. I would rather Woolies imported the 22% of foreign ingredients, and had the packaging done in Australia. I usually use cocoa for my drinks as I like to control the sugar, but this powder would be handy for kids to make their own drinks and it was a bargain price.

Pleasantly surprised. This sample has been in my pantry for months. Mainly because it was summer and I didn't feel like hot chocolate, but also because I normally drink sugar free hot chocolate if I have one. Tonight I made a hot chocolate with almond milk and I really enjoyed the taste. It mixed well and tasted smooth, chocolatey and was not overly sickly sweet like I was dreading. 3 teaspoons is one serve, which is 58 calories. Not too bad. This only contains less than 10% Australian ingredients. I would buy this again, but only rarely as it's not something we drink very often.

The two biggest ingredients are sugar and cocoa powder, and I'm guessing it's the cocoa powder holding back from having a higher quantity of Australian ingredients, but ideally we'd love to see a >90% amount. First Ingredient is Sugar not Cocoa. When the first ingredient is sugar, and cocoa is only 15% of the product, you know it is going to be sickly sweet, and not a true cocoa drink powder. This was awful. And that it has so many other preservatives added just makes it worse. (Tapioca Starch, Maltodextrin, Stabiliser (Guar Gum))Who needs to basically have just sugar in a drink? This will spike your blood sugar levels in a really negative way and adds no nutritional benefit at all, except the small amount of cinnamon added as the last ingredient. There are much better supermarket hot chocolate drink mixes available - try the Pana brand, much healthier and with recognisable ingredients.

So I was a little curious when I received this sample, so I thought I would make a cup of hot chocolate ☕️ and a glass of cold chocolate. Easy to open, as you can see inside just over half of a tin. I followed the directions and measured 200ml of cold almond milk into a glass, as well as 3 teaspoons, 15gm of chocolate powder and stirred. Then I did the same with the hot chocolate, only I heated the 200ml of milk, and added 15gm of powder and stirred. End results are here? Time for the taste tests…. Great value and excellent taste. I wasn't expecting much when I first tried this product in a glass of milk, going on past experiences with cheap chocolate powders, and I was more than a little surprised at how good it tasted without the expected powdery aftertaste. It mixes into cold milk well and is not overly sweet. It compares more than favourably with brand-name products at a much lower price point. I'll be trying it sprinkled on icecream next and maybe on top of my daily cappuccinos just to see what it's like. A high percentage (78%) of Australian products content too - that scores extra Brownie points. A tin will last me for a long time but when I need a replacement this'll be the one I'll choose.
