It just means that any triggered recording requires a "cool down" period. The Wyze Video Doorbell Pro allows you to dial that between 1 and 5 minutes. Which I think is sufficient.In the package you get the doorbell button with the camera, several mounting plates and screws or a 3M VHB adhesive pad (Very High Bond double sided tape). A plug in chime box. A micro-USB cord to charge the doorbell button. Three jumper wires and a security screwdriver.I plugged in the doorbell button unit to charge it up. While it was charging I plugged in the chime box and proceeded through the first time setup. It was very straightforward to setup and I didn't run into any problems. But then again, I was just doing this in my home office.When I went outside to mount the doorbell I realized my biggest gripe of this system. In order to get the installation instructions, you have to go through and set up the doorbell as a new device. That means I had to delete the previous instance, reset the device and set it up like the first time but now I go through the instructions for one type of installation.But wait, I installed it flat against my door jamb before I could check the camera's field of view. I really need to install it with the included wedge to angle the camera away from the adjoining wall. For most people, that means you need to delete the doorbell camera instance again and go through the entire setup process again so that you can now get to the installation instructions for the wedge. I got a little stubborn and tried to figure it out myself without having to go through the entire process. I almost messed it up before I realized that the wedge is installed with the finished side against your door jamb and the open cell side under the mounting plate.So I would ask that Wyze make the instructions a little more accessible in the app.Battery life depends on the traffic and usage rate of the doorbell. I expect to remove the doorbell unit every 6 months to charge it up. However, one of the nice things is that the back of the doorbell unit has terminals to connect to your existing wired doorbell if you have one. This unfortunately doesn't mean you can connect it to your existing chimebox. It actually has you re-wire the chimebox so that the Wyze Doorbell unit draws power from the transformer to maintain charge but you still use the Wyze plug in chimebox for your chime. The instructions will lead you through the process very well. However, in my particular case, the transformer is installed in my particular chimebox and the instructions don't account for that variation. I'm confident that I can rewire it correctly given a little bit of thought, but I don't mind sticking to the wireless capability for now.One of the nice surprises is that you can change the doorbell chime in the app. There are about a dozen choices with a few Christmas themed ones. I sure hope they add more later.Another gripe with this Video Doorbell is that to achieve a wide field of view, the fish eye distortion is pretty severe. From what I've seen in other systems, this is pretty much on par for this market segment. I imagine that the processing power required to correct that distortion would hamper overall system performance and take a significant chunk out of the battery life. Otherwise the video is decent, the microphone picks up well and the speaker could use a little more volume, but it is sufficient for most cases.In the end, this Wyze Wireless Video Doorbell package provides excellent functionality at an affordable price. Installation could be made easier if Wyze could allow quick access to the instructions.

The Wyze Doorbell Pro is definitely a step up from the older wyze doorbell, if you’re debating one or the other, or an upgrade, you should probably go with the Pro version. But that doesn’t mean it’s the best doorbell in it’s class. This really disappointed me and even though I was able to figure it out through trial and error, a proper manual with installation steps for ALL install types would have been appreciated so I knew I was doing it correctly. (I was not sure which screws to use and ended up drilling holes in the wrong part of the wedge before realizing there were smaller screws I could use.) BUT, assuming you follow the installation tutorial correctly, you should be fine and it shouldn’t take long.Once I was up and going, (I already had a wyze account and app so that was not figured into my install time) I found the doorbell operations in the app very similar to any other wyze camera controls. There’s some basic settings and controls and overall I was able to have the doorbell set to my preferred settings and operational in just a few minutes. I live on a fairly non busy street with little motion and after 5 days the battery has dropped 10%. I’m not getting a whole lot of motion alerts but I do have the cool off set to 1 minute. (I’m not a cam plus subscriber so I’m using the basic settings only.) The battery did drop about 7% during the setup and probably drained a lot while it was one when I was putting it on the wall. I can’t say much to how long the battery will truly last but I do know it takes a while to charge which is somewhat upsetting. Around 5 hours to charge means you have to take the doorbell down for 5 hours and not have any useable doorbell or camera during that time. If you have an existing doorbell, you can use those wires to trickle charge the doorbell and assuming you don’t have a lot of motion, you probably won’t need to charge the unit. HOWEVER, Wyze says you can NOT use the doorbell with your existing doorbell chime. I’m not sure if that’s true, but if you’re wanting to do that, I would double check with wyze first.So far after a few days, the doorbell has done a good job of detecting things like amazon delivery and other packages being dropped off, I’m able to see the faces and make sure no pirates come along and steal my boxes. Getting the delivery people to actually ring the doorbell is another issue, but when I have been testing the bell and ringing it, it seems to work pretty well. There is quiet a delay between pressing the button and getting the notification though. I have a fast wifi and the bell is within 20 feet of the router. I’ve seen most people have similar results with 5 seconds up to 20 seconds delay, so don’t expect to see a notification right away. Most of the time the person who rang the bell is already walking away by the time I get a notification and the app opens and loads.THE BAD:- installation instructions are lacking- delay in notification response- 2 way talking sounded gargled- no SD card for local recording/subscription required for longer recordings- battery charge time- recorded clips are short (without cam+)- extra plugin chimes are not for sale or available at this time (sept 2022)There’s not a whole lot of bad issues with this doorbell and so far none of them have been deal breakers for me, more just frustrating. My unique situation that I am using it in also makes the negative issues less annoying. For example, having short recordings and slow responses is not a huge deal for me because I also have a wyze cam pointing out the window covering the front yard so anything the doorbell misses or cuts short I can see on another camera. I would suggest anyone looking into this doorbell to do the same. Cover your areas with at least 2 different cameras, that way if one fails you have a backup plus multiple angles helps.Not having local SD storage is probably the biggest bummer for me. I understand being a battery powered doorbell it can’t handle 24/7 recording to a SD card anyway but it would be nice to have local recordings even just for shorter recordings and not needing to rely on a cloud recording on a server somewhere else. Wyze claims it’s a security issue but I think we all know it’s to get more people to sign up for the cam plus. Which is fine, but also means some people may choose to buy a different product that provides local recording.OVERALL:Overall this is a decent doorbell that provides you with a budget friendly option to still get minimum features without a subscription and the benefit of not needing to drill one hole in the house if you can’t or don’t want to. I imagine renters or those with little to know DIY skills would love to be able to stick this doorbell to the wall and be done. I don’t know how well the 3M stick will hold over time, but I assume it would last a decent amount of time. You may want to look into buying replacements with your doorbell though if you choose to go that route.The wyze doorbell pro is easy on the wallet, easy to install and easy to operate. If you’re looking for a quick and cheap doorbell fix, you may want to try out this one.

I note that others have complained that Wyze’s pricing for the cloud service can get expensive if you have more cameras but I only use the remote service for the doorbell cam so it’s pretty cheap. Second, while I have had difficulty getting quick response time from other (non-doorbell) security cameras connected via 2.4G WiFi, this doorbell is in comparison lightning fast (probably because of the 5G connection). I was and remain very pleased with how quick I see the live-stream video when I bring up live-viewing mode. Third, I’ve heard a lot of complaints regarding other doorbell cameras that the camera is so slow to come on line when it detects motion that the person is already gone before the video starts. I don’t know how Wyze does this but in my experience every video it has recorded starts a couple seconds before the person/truck/whatever comes into view! I have to say this is GREAT! One caveat is that I have not yet had the opportunity to use my phone as an intercom to the doorbell when someone rings it. So I cannot comment on that how well that works. One other point that was mildly disappointing to me is that it doesn’t appear possible to connect this doorbell to the existing house doorbell chime. You have to use the plug-in chime that Wyze provides. Oh well, the provided chime is OK and this is not really that a big deal to me. I only gave 3 stars for sound quality because I don't have enough experience with using the audio to know if it's any good. Overall I’m very happy I purchased this doorbell camera.

I would suggest anyone looking into this doorbell to do the same. Cover your areas with at least 2 different cameras, that way if one fails you have a backup plus multiple angles helps.Not having local SD storage is probably the biggest bummer for me. I understand being a battery powered doorbell it can’t handle 24/7 recording to a SD card anyway but it would be nice to have local recordings even just for shorter recordings and not needing to rely on a cloud recording on a server somewhere else. Wyze claims it’s a security issue but I think we all know it’s to get more people to sign up for the cam plus. Which is fine, but also means some people may choose to buy a different product that provides local recording.OVERALL:Overall this is a decent doorbell that provides you with a budget friendly option to still get minimum features without a subscription and the benefit of not needing to drill one hole in the house if you can’t or don’t want to. I imagine renters or those with little to know DIY skills would love to be able to stick this doorbell to the wall and be done. I don’t know how well the 3M stick will hold over time, but I assume it would last a decent amount of time. You may want to look into buying replacements with your doorbell though if you choose to go that route.The wyze doorbell pro is easy on the wallet, easy to install and easy to operate. If you’re looking for a quick and cheap doorbell fix, you may want to try out this one.

Third, I’ve heard a lot of complaints regarding other doorbell cameras that the camera is so slow to come on line when it detects motion that the person is already gone before the video starts. I don’t know how Wyze does this but in my experience every video it has recorded starts a couple seconds before the person/truck/whatever comes into view! I have to say this is GREAT! One caveat is that I have not yet had the opportunity to use my phone as an intercom to the doorbell when someone rings it. So I cannot comment on that how well that works. One other point that was mildly disappointing to me is that it doesn’t appear possible to connect this doorbell to the existing house doorbell chime. You have to use the plug-in chime that Wyze provides. Oh well, the provided chime is OK and this is not really that a big deal to me. I only gave 3 stars for sound quality because I don't have enough experience with using the audio to know if it's any good. Overall I’m very happy I purchased this doorbell camera.

You can set up different zones, so you only get notifications from a certain area of your property. You can customize the notifications and volume of the chime. When viewing live video, you can turn on or off the audio well as use the 2-way audio feature so you can talk to and hear whoever is at your door.With the basic Wyze Cam Plus Lite service you get 12-second Event recordings and Wyze Person Detection at whatever price you choose, including $0. Cam Plus Lite gives you Wyze Person Detection and 12-second Event videos as often as every 5 minutes, saved in the cloud for 14 days. It will allow you to receive and filter motion Event videos with people in them to make sure the notifications you get are meaningful. You can also choose the regular Cam Plus subscription which will cost $1.25 a month. Which is still pretty cheap compared to the other main players in the market.The video quality I find to be acceptable. Listen, these are budget cameras and not high end 4K cameras. The video quality is good, and useable. You will get a very clear picture in the daytime and easily be able to pick out faces. The nighttime video is good. If you have an outdoor porch light near the camera you should be able to easily pick out faces as well. If the camera is in a completely dark area, you might struggle to be able to see faces unless they are right in front of the camera. But you will at least still get that notification that someone is outside your house whether they ring the bell or not, and that’s really what’s important!I found the app to work pretty well, there were a few little bugs and hiccups here and there, but Wyze is constantly taking user feedback and updating the app and adding new features or improving existing features.Overall, if you want to get some security cameras around your house but don’t want to spend a fortune or have a monthly fee, you won't go wrong with Wyze!

I love that the cam is dual band, can use either 2.4 ghz or 5 ghz, my previous old other brand one was only 2.4 ghz and god, was so slow.Its very easy to install and I did it myself. You download their app and it will guide you through the process. You can use the cam free, however they also offer a subscription service which is very cheap ($1.99 a month, first month free if you want to try it) which gives you more advanced features like ai features like person detection, vehicle detection, package detection, pet detection and even record full event videos), for such a low price I highly recommend it.I also love how you get notifications on your phone super fast and you can communicate with the person having a two way conversation super easy.I highly recommend this cam, specially these days that we order so many things online for deliver and the increase amount of "porch pirates", this brings extra security to your home!

But when I’m home and on the same network of my doorbell, there shouldn’t be this much lag. It took about 15 secs after the person rang the bell before I got the notification. This could use some improvements, because if I choose to answer it on my phone then the person at the door is most likely gone by time it actually connects.Overall, I like the picture quality of the doorbell, it comes in very clear and crisp. The audio from the doorbell is loud and clear as well. Depending on the subscription plan you choose, there are some good features like package detection, saved recordings and much more. The included Chime plus is very loud and also acts as a wifi range extender. The biggest issue I am having right now is the lag between the doorbell and getting notified from the app. I hope this can be fixed with a software update because this is a great video doorbell with some decent priced subscriptions. I haven't subscribed yet so I don't know exactly what you get with it but it's there if you want to try it.I like it so far, it seems pretty good and it's nice to be able to look outside in the app without having to actually go out especially at night or in bad weather. I can easily see my neighbor's house across the street quite clearly so I should be able to watch my yard and street pretty well from home and away through the app. If you've been thinking of getting one this is a good choice.
