Definitely the best feeling controller for gaming on PC. Xbox controllers have had a history of having issues. 360 controllers just felt stiff and cheap and kind of bad overall. Xbox One controllers got stick drift far too easily, even with gentle use, and needed to be replaced frequently. I have also had many issues with the bumpers breaking on Xbox One controllers. This was due to a design flaw in which a very thin piece of plastic would become pinched by the frame of the controller. For a long time I had a basket of controller parts that I would salvage from several broken models to Frankenstein one single controller into working. I'm happy to say that this is no longer necessary. My Xbox Series X controller has lasted so long that the rubber joystick grips have ...Ā MoreDefinitely the best feeling controller for gaming on PC. I was amazed to see that my bumper buttons have lasted this long. The recent improvements to the d-pad are also worth mentioning. It feels so much cleaner than it did on previous models. If you want a solid workhorse of a controller for PC gaming, or console use, that feels good and gives you years of service this is the way to go.

I bought the Stellar Shift Special Edition controller (beautiful iridescent purple) on June 30 of 2023. It's now March 15, 2024 (less than a year old) and already the d-pad is failing. The down button isn't registering some presses, and it double presses sometimes. The product page here on Walmart.com still says the warranty is 1 year, which is INCORRECT. Microsoft knows that their current generation controllers don't last as long as previous generations (my original 360 controllers still work perfectly) so they only warranty them for 90 days. So buyer beware - if you play games on a regular basis, you'll need to purchase another one in less than a year. If you play only occasionally, it might last more than a year.Since this is not the first Xbox controller that ...Ā MoreI bought the Stellar Shift Special Edition controller (beautiful iridescent purple) on June 30 of 2023. i recently bought a pdp afterglow wave controller and came home an went to play the game. Not even 15 mins after i started the controller started saying it was disconnected. This was the reason i bought that controller in the first place. I assumed it was just my xboxs usb port an kept playing sonce it went away not long after. Eventually it came back an got worse an worse an the controller just wouldnt stay on, even sitting on the table. Ended up buying this controller since ive heard from many different sources that the Microsoft controllers were made way better, i just never wanted to pay for one an it just be something people say.The controller is heavier and feels way sturdier, like you could knock someone out with it. All the other controllers feel like they would break if you hit someone. Ive only had it for a little over 2 days but ive had zero issues at all from it. The PDP controller (which is endorsed by Microsoft too) was just terrible all around. Yea it lights up an you can customize buttons, lights, ect, but mine had connection issues straight out of the box. I tried different cables an it came down to the controller. Eventually if i pushed the cable into the controller really hard then i coukd maybe get it to play for a few hours without disconnecting. Then we get to the next issue, the left stick lost its ability to "click in". The stick was registering it as it being pressed in an out, repeatedly over and over, so this ruined being ablebto sprint ect. This was about a week after i purchased it. I plan on going and returning it and if i cant get a refund then im gonna tryvm and get one through the warranty from the makers. If you're a heavy gamer, do not buy a pdp.Anyways, this controller feels really really good an like it will actually hokd up for atleast a few months atleast but i guess we'll see. I had a 360 controller long ago that i got after going through like 3 others an that one held up through anything. If i have any issues ill be sure to definitely post them. With that pdp experience i had i bought a warranty at walmart for this one just in case. Guess ill see how it goes
For some reason: Microsoft has continued to make the Xbox controller, smaller and smaller. The S controller and the Xbox 360 controller worked very well in adult hands. The Xbox one controller was noticeably smaller and now we have the Xbox series X controller, which is even smaller with Reduced trigger size. It fits oddly in my hands. These controllers are cheaply, made, and sold for relatively high prices. I have noticed a considerable decline in controller quality since the original Xbox. My Xbox one had the absolute worst controllers where I would suffer frequent failures. In fact: I bought this controller to replace an Xbox one controller. My Xbox one had the absolute worst controllers where I would suffer frequent failures. In fact: I bought this controller to replace an Xbox one controller. I have replaced my Xbox one controller at least five times. This time after one of the shoulder buttons broke. For such a high price, these controllers dont even come with a USB cable - which I find highly disappointing. I ordered some USB controllers wires off of eBay. They do come with two door cell AA batteries but why arent these rechargeable batteries? Microsoft has decided to force you to buy every single peripheral that they could in order to continue to milk you. Instead of allowing you to simply buy rechargeable AA batteries, they want you to buy a licensed rechargeable battery pack. Sure enough: the Xbox ones rechargeablebattery packs for the controllers do not fit in the Xbox series X controller. I have recently used the Xbox series X elite, two controller, and while I do like it, I find the price even more ridiculous than these controllers. The one good thing I can say about these controllers is that they use USB Cee instead of micro USB, which is a more universal charging standard now in 2023. Even apples iPhone has gone to USB-C along with their iPads, and just about all of their MacBooks. But even with USB-C Microsoft demands that you buy their license peripherals in order to get the most out of your device.
This is the second XBOX controller I have bought from Walmart this week. Both controllers were sold to me as new but are in fact used and missing components from the box. This one is missing the batteries. But what I like the most is the dirt from someoneās hands (I assume) left on the controller. No this box did not have security tape on it and I did not know it was ripped until I opened it and discovered that Walmart hid the ripped cardboard on the inside. I didnāt even think about this because the associate pulled this box from behind locked glass. Oy! This ought to be considered theft, but I get this more and more lately. Amazon does this too. They send used items marked as new and then complain when you complain that you were deceived. If something is used or open or missing components than that needs to be stated upfront, so I can make the best buying decision for me and not be running back and forth 10 times to the store or post office just to get a $60.00 controller.
I'm a fan of the old-school, white controller. I like how the buttons show their bright colors. Some games display the buttons on the screen in rapid succession to demonstrate what to press to play a mini-game, so I find this easier to follow than when each button is grayed out on other controllers. Of course, this depends on your level of comfort and muscle memory.I like how the thumb-sticks feel like they offer resistance when playing a game. My older controllers are worn and the joysticks move freely, which decreases the sensitivity necessary to perform well in competitive games. This controller connected right out of the box and offered a high-quality gaming experience. I was somewhat disappointed with the Xbox controller. Itās been years since Iāve used one, and was expecting better quality. The base controller does not come with a rechargeable battery pack. I used an Xbox One controller for light PC gaming the past number of years, and figured I'd upgrade to a Series S/X controller upon seeing it on sale. Figured I'd relegate the One controller to "guest" duty the rare times I may have a guest over for a gaming session. In terms of ergonomics, the Series controller feels real similar to the One before it, which is to say: it's a comfy piece of plastic. The textured grip & triggers of the Series controller make it even more comfortable. Also nice to see USB C for charging, though for a 2020s-era piece of tech, I reckon most people would expect it to be there. It paired about as easy with my PC as I could hope for, nothing dramatic to report on that front. One unfortunate thing with this controller that's been carried ...Ā MoreI used an Xbox One controller for light PC gaming the past number of years, and figured I'd upgrade to a Series S/X controller upon seeing it on sale. It paired about as easy with my PC as I could hope for, nothing dramatic to report on that front. One unfortunate thing with this controller that's been carried over from the One: Why, in the year 2024, is the rechargable battery a separate purchase? Why, this far into the 2020s, do we need batteries like gamers did when they had GameBoys in the 1990s/early 2000s? Sony's had rechargeable batteries in their PlayStation controllers since the PS3 days, Nintendo moved away from batteries in controllers after the Wii, it's baffling to me that Microsoft keeps opting for an antiquated charging scheme when the Switch Pro controller & DualSense today cost pretty darn close to what the Xbox Series controller costs without a separate charging kit (at their respective MSRP prices). But I digress, this controller is still a solid one for PC gaming. If you can find this on sale & don't mind having to either shell out a bit more for batteries or a proper charging kit, you can do a lot worse than this. If you find an older One controller for significantly cheaper, I low-key doubt you'd miss the textured grip & triggers that overly much.Overall, I'd grade this a 3.5/5 mostly out of spite for the battery situation, though I'll spite my spite & round the score up to a 4/5 for today.
Controllers get worn out, everyone knows that. They seem to last about a year (1-3 hours gameplay a day with a little more time on weekends) and they develop drift or the buttons stop responding so well, it just happens. I recommend getting a controller with the rubber pads on the back for comfort and grip, and getting a higher amp hour rechargeable battery for them. The downside that seems to bother me the most is āupdatingā the controller. It seems silly to me that they need updates every few months. It is annoying to have to do that when you are trying to enter a lobby with friends. Otherwise, the rubber grip Xbox controller is fine. They could seriously lower the price by about 25% and I would still feel like itās too expensive as well though. Still, the color ...Ā MoreControllers get worn out, everyone knows that.
